How do I explain my experience of schizoaffective with a degree of insight to my therapist?
I keep trying to explain to my therapist that it is possible to maintain a degree of insight while manic/psychotic. It doesn’t take away from how it feels or the actions you execute on because of it. This disorder single-handedly destroyed my life.
Today I explained that there were many plans I didn’t execute on years ago when I was in psychosis because I lacked the executive function (due to a TBI amongst other things) to do so. Being psychotic or manic doesn’t automatically make that not an issue anymore because it’s very neurological. Anyway, she tried to explain this away by saying that I have “protective parts” that know better and because of them, I don’t execute. This isn’t true. She also knows at this point that I don’t like the whole parts work stuff. Never once have I went along with the parts stuff. I’ve told her directly that I don’t jive with it for many reasons.
Otherwise, she’s been good to me and I’d like to keep her around. Is there any way for me to get her to see my perspective?
