استقبل المسيحيون المطران لوئيجي روبرتو كونا، السفير الرسولي الجديد لدى سوريا وممثل الكرسي الرسولي، مع بدء مهمته في لحظة حساسة ومفصلية بالنسبة للبلد. وخلال زيارته لعدة تجمعات في إدلب، رُفع العلم السوري إلى جانب علم الفاتيكان، في مشهد رمزي بالنسبة للمسيحيين المحليين الذين واجهوا صعوبات كثيرة في ممارسة إيمانهم في إدلب.
وقام السفير البابوي، برفقة نائب وزير الداخلية السوري، بإطلاق حمامة سلام في سماء المناطق المسيحية التي شملتها الزيارة، في إشارة رمزية إلى الأمل بالسلام.
وعند وصوله إلى سوريا، عبّر عن أمله بأن يواصل المسيحيون لعب دور “جسر” للحوار والمصالحة والسلام بعد سنوات من الصراع. وخلال زياراته الرسمية الأولى، التقى بقيادات كنسية ومسؤولين سوريين، مؤكداً التزام الكرسي الرسولي بدعم الوجود المسيحي في المنطقة وتشجيع التعايش بين جميع السوريين.
وقد تميّزت زيارته ليس فقط باللقاءات الدبلوماسية، بل أيضاً باستقبال دافئ ومؤثر من الأهالي الذين تجمعوا في الشوارع لتحية ممثل البابا بفرح ورجاء بالمستقبل. وكثيرون عبّروا عن أملهم بأن تحمل هذه الزيارة دعماً متجدداً وتغييراً إيجابياً ورجاءً أكبر للمجتمع المسيحي في المنطقة.

On June 22, 2025, a terrorist attack struck the Greek Orthodox Mar Elias Church in the Dweila district of Damascus during the Divine Liturgy. A suicide bomber entered the church while hundreds of worshippers were gathered for prayer, opened fire, and then detonated an explosive vest inside the sanctuary. The attack martyred around 22 people and injured dozens of others, making it one of the deadliest attacks against Christians in Syria in recent years.
One year later, the memory of the martyrs of Mar Elias Church remains alive in the hearts of Christians across Syria and around the world. As the first anniversary of the tragedy is marked, prayers are offered for the repose of those who lost their lives, for the healing of the wounded, and for lasting peace in Syria. Today, we ask all of you to remember the martyrs, their families, and the Christians of Syria in your prayers.

أصدرت أبرشية السريان الأرثوذكس في حلب (شمال سوريا) توضيحًا حول حادثة سقطت فيها شنطة سودا من سيارة نقل موتى أثناء دخولها إلى كاتدرائية مار أفرام السريانية الأرثوذكسية بحي السليمانية، بينما كان يتم نقل جثمان أحد أبناء الرعية للصلاة والدفن.

وقالت الأبرشية في بيان مساء الأربعاء 13 أيار إن سيارة تابعة لمكتب دفن الموتى كانت تُدخل الجثمان إلى الكاتدرائية عندما سقط جسم صغير ملفوف بشنطة سودا ومثبت بلاصق شفاف من السيارة، ما أثار الشكوك حول طبيعته.

وبحسب البيان، اعتقد حارس الأبرشية بالبداية إن الجسم تابع لمعدات السيارة، قبل ما ينفي السائق أي علاقة إله فيه. وهالشي دفع الحارس للاتصال بشرطي مرور، واللي بدوره طلب حضور العناصر الأمنية. بعدها تم إغلاق الطريق من كل الجهات كإجراء احترازي ضد أي خطر محتمل.

وقال المكتب الإعلامي للأمن الداخلي بحلب لإناب بلدي إن الجسم اللي سقط من سيارة نقل الموتى تبيّن إنه شنطة فيها عدة قنابل. وكانت الشنطة موجودة داخل السيارة قبل ما تقع أثناء حركة السيارة حول الكاتدرائية.

وأضاف المكتب إن العناصر الأمنية تعاملت مع البلاغ فور تلقيه. وتم تأمين المكان وتسليم الشنطة للجهات المختصة قبل البدء بإتلاف محتوياتها حسب الإجراءات المتبعة.

وأشار إلى إنه لسا مو معروف مين حط القنابل داخل الشنطة أو تحت أي ظروف تم إدخالها للسيارة.

وكان ناشطون على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي تداولوا تسجيل فيديو من كاميرا مراقبة يوثق لحظة سقوط الشنطة من سيارة نقل الموتى.

وأظهر الفيديو حارس الأبرشية وهو يقترب من الشنطة ويركلها قبل ما يشك فيها ويتصل بالقوى الأمنية، اللي أغلقت المنطقة لحد ما وصلت وحدة المتفجرات.

وأضافت الأبرشية إن وحدة هندسة متفجرات وصلت لاحقًا إلى الموقع وتعاملت مع الجسم بعد فحصه وإبعاده عن المنطقة وسط إجراءات أمنية مشددة.

وأوضحت إنه بعد مراجعة تسجيلات كاميرات المراقبة، تبيّن إن الجسم سقط من سيارة نقل الموتى، اللي كانت متوقفة قبلها بشارع قريب.

وشكرت الأبرشية الجهات الأمنية اللي تعاملت مع الحادثة “بسرعة واحترافية”، بحسب وصفها، مشيرةً إلى إن التدخل السريع منع وقوع أي أضرار محتملة.

Father Louis Salman, a Jordanian priest who served as parish priest in Beit Sahour, a majority Palestinian Christian town near Bethlehem and was also chaplain for the Palestinian Christian youth movement, has been forced to leave the country.
Following an unusually long and intensive security interrogation by Israeli authorities, Israel refused to renew his visa and ordered him to leave before 11 May.
In a poignant farewell, Father Louis presided over his final Mass in Beit Sahour - the 'Shepherd's Field'- on Sunday.
Father Louis is considered one of the most influential figures among Palestinian Christian youth.
According to church sources, Israel justified its decision by citing Father Louis's political views and his significant influence on Christian youth, particularly given his public statements describing Israel as an "occupying power," in addition to his national and humanitarian presence at numerous Palestinian events.
Born in 1989, Jordanian Father Louis Salman studied computer graphics and animation at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, before joining the major seminary in Beit Jala in 2014, to train to become a priest.
Father Louis' name became prominent following the killing of the young Christian Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by an Israeli soldier in May 2022. Fr Louis led a funeral service and a solemn procession for her in Jenin, prior to her burial in Jerusalem. Israeli soldiers attacked the pallbearers carrying her casket as Palestinians carried her from St Joseph Hospital through Jerusalem to the church in the Old City for her funeral.
In recent days, Beit Sahour many people came to bid farewell to their much-loved pastor. Palestinian Christian Youth held a tribute ceremony for Father Louis, attended by around 150 young men and women from various Palestinian cities. His final Mass on Sunday, was attended by a large congregation from the Bethlehem Governorate, who bid him farewell with feelings of both sorrow and pride.
The expulsion of Father Louis comes amid escalating Israeli pressure on Palestinian churches and Christian institutions, whether through restrictions on holiday celebrations, settler attacks on clergy and nuns, or encroachments on church lands. This pressure also manifests in the tightening of residency permits for priests and clergy from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt who come to serve in Palestinian churches.
Many see the decision to expel Father Louis as a message that extends beyond him personally, targeting the Palestinian Christian presence itself and attempting to curtail the national and spiritual role played by Palestinian churches in preserving identity and resilience, especially among young people.
