Gears of War: E-Day benchmarked on 25 GPUs and 28 CPUs – it’s demanding, but surprisingly well optimized

Our team benchmarked Gears of War: E-Day across 25 GPUs and 28 CPUs ahead of launch.

Considering what the game is doing with UE5.6.1, Hardware Lumen, MegaLights and a pretty ridiculous amount of detail, the performance is actually better than I expected – but you still need a fairly strong GPU if you want 60 FPS at high settings.

A few interesting takeaways:

  • ~60 FPS at 1080p needs roughly RTX 4070 Super / RTX 5070 / RX 7900 XT class performance with our settings
  • WQHD pushes you closer to RTX 5070 Ti / RX 9070 XT territory
  • CPU scaling is unusually good for a modern UE5 game
  • even older 6- and 8-core CPUs can still deliver playable performance
  • Intel's Arc B580 benefits a lot from XeSS Multi Frame Generation
  • 32:9 support is actually pretty decent, so we benchmarked that too

We also took a closer look at Hardware Lumen, MegaLights and RTX Mega Geometry.
