A Deep Down Analysis Of Gojo Satoru

TL;DR

Thesis: Gojo’s ability set isn't just powerscaling hype; it is a literal physical metaphor for isolation and trauma.

Symbolism: Infinity acts as a metaphor for an emotional wall, Blue symbolizes the desire for connection, Red pushes individuals away because of Gojo’s arrogant self, and Purple is the contradiction of both.

The Narrative: He chooses educating the youth over slaughtering corrupt higher-ups, and dies going "South" to retain his identity as a human rather than a weapon.

(Read the full analysis below that analyzes the psychological profile, the ascension of Gojo, the ego death in Hidden Inventory, the relationships of Gojo, and the philosophical/ideological framework of Gojo.)

Introduction

https://preview.redd.it/1b5jj2d056kh1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90320ecf5f4efebf76c422d832678cb88800c1b5

Gojo Satoru is the main deuteragonist/side character of the Shonen series called Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the mentor of the main character Yuji and Yuji’s friends (Megumi, Nobara, etc.) too.

He is a prominent and important figure in the narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the strongest sorcerer of the modern era, and his birth changed the balance of the world.

His birth made curses and curse users stronger while changing the sociological structure and framework of Jujutsu society, and made the balance between Jujutsu families go out of way.

Personality

Despite his power and age, Gojo Satoru’s personality is often described as "playful" through his interactions with his students, along with the jokes and habits he has.

He openly calls himself the strongest of the modern era. While he isn't wrong, he treats curses with "utter disrespect" and treats people cocky and arrogant, primarily because he is aware that nobody can beat him.

Also, he is extremely calm and carefree through making students have fun, cracking jokes, or being calm because he is the strongest.

Limitless

Limitless is Gojo’s inherited and one of the original techniques. This technique brings the concept of "Infinity" into reality, allowing the user/Gojo to manipulate and distort space at will.

https://preview.redd.it/1fm5qan666kh1.jpg?width=536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7644404bb558ca24afa4566dc27f478c6bc61b42

Infinity

Infinity is the neutral state of Limitless, the ability to stop things. The Limitless technique operates the same way convergent and divergent sequences do in mathematics. The Infinity is the convergence of an immeasurable series; anything that approaches infinity slows down and never reaches the user. This is because the technique takes the finite amount of space between the two subjects and divides it an infinite amount of times.

Attacks that travel in space (e.g., a bullet) are stopped by Infinity because a bullet has mass, speed, and other physical features. First, the bullet travels half of the distance, then it travels the remaining half, making it impossible to reach him by any normal or conventional means.

Blue

https://preview.redd.it/4lez677k66kh1.jpg?width=536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99c2f39e891d90081902e2f452da0123a98f3ad6

Blue is the Cursed Technique Lapse of the Limitless. It is activated by channeling amplified cursed energy into the Limitless technique. It infinitely converges space to a single point to create a void-like effect and produce fields of attraction. The aforementioned center point sometimes manifests as a blue-colored sphere. Blue's power to attract can be applied in various ways. It can pull two targets into each other, destroy a building, implode an individual, or increase the user's speed, among other applications. Consistent with the Limitless technique in general, Blue is difficult to use and requires precise manipulation of the user's cursed energy, which can cause the user to tire out easily.

Red

https://preview.redd.it/yozr66jo76kh1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d956e9035b08ff10478df49b860c8d377a891a3c

Red is the Cursed Technique Reversal of the Limitless, which reverses the effect of the cursed technique and brings the divergence of infinity into reality. This is achieved by flowing positive energy into the power of the Limitless, creating a repelling effect rather than an attractive one. This technique manifests as a small red orb that can unleash immense explosive force in an instant upon impact. The energy output of Red is at least twice as much as the output of generation of Blue. Generating positive energy for Red is extremely difficult. It requires an even more complex manipulation of cursed energy than usual, making pulling off reversal even more sophisticated than using lapse. The user must multiply their negative energy by negative energy to create positive energy, a simple concept that proves to be extremely difficult in practice. Being able to use a reverse cursed technique is extremely complicated for any sorcerer, even for the most gifted of the Gojo clan.

Purple

https://preview.redd.it/j5506wu186kh1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02d73abf0e8d72b64ab32492a6124af7b9dd34fd

Purple is the fusion of Red and Blue, a secret ability known to only a few in the Gojo clan. Both infinities, convergence and divergence collide, resulting in an imaginary mass that rushes forth. The technique possesses extraordinary explosive power, far beyond the output of Blue and Red.

Six Eyes

https://preview.redd.it/zs10ehyo86kh1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99dcd758462973a2c080e34f6e124b8c87e775cc

Six Eyes are an innate gift rarely inherited within the Gojo Clan. They are a nonstandard jujutsu trait manifesting as a pair of bright blue eyes that grant a bearer extrasensory perception. This includes seeing the flow of cursed energy in extreme detail and the ability to use that flow to read cursed techniques. The eyes also allow for ultra-precise control over the user's cursed energy, which is indispensable for properly utilizing the Limitless technique.

The Symbolism

Throughout the series of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo Satoru has many symbolic elements to his character in both external and internal types of symbolism and semiotics.

Object:Infinity

Meaning: Infinity symbolizes the isolation of Gojo. Throughout the series, almost nobody ever achieved bypassing Infinity and making a genuine connection to Gojo. It is a physical manifestation of Gojo’s inner traumas and isolation, making it a unique form of symbolism because it became an "internal" force made "external."

Object:Limitless

Meaning: Limitless is, by definition, an object or a force that does not have a limit. Gojo is portrayed as a sorcerer who does not have a proper limit, symbolizing the endless and limitless nature of Gojo. Ironically, in the end, it was discovered that he isn't limitless; he was killed and bypassed by a king.

Object:Six Eyes

Meaning: Eyes, by symbolic meaning, symbolize truth, connection, and "sight." Gojo has the Six Eyes, which symbolize his supernatural capability and how he is leagues above anyone else. It can also symbolize the complexity of Gojo, because having Six Eyes can mean seeing multiple truths and outcomes. It also symbolizes things that only Gojo can perceive (e.g., the fraudulence of the higher-ups, the corruption of Jujutsu society).

Object:Blue

Meaning: Blue is an ability to attract things. This can symbolize Gojo’s desire for connection, because "attract" can be used as a meaning for "love" or "connection," symbolizing Gojo’s desire for someone to be attracted to him.

Object:Red

Meaning: Red is the objective opposite of Blue. Instead of attracting things, it pushes and repulses things out of his way. While we stated that Gojo has a desire for connection, because he is supernatural in a supernatural world, he makes people get out of his way, repulsing forces and connections.

Object:Purple

Meaning: Purple is the complete form of Red and Blue. It makes objects attract and repulse at the same time. It shows the complexity of Gojo’s nature: he wants people to be attracted to him while pushing people out of his way.

Object:Blindfold

Meaning: As previously stated, eyes can symbolize connection, which can be confirmed by the phrase "eyes are the mirror of the soul." Gojo covers his eyes with an eyeband. While it could be because of other reasons, my interpretation suggests that Gojo has both a desire for connection and a hatred for connection. Covering your eyes is an act of making a wall of steel that covers your soul against external forces; if Gojo makes a genuine connection with someone, it could make his reputation as the strongest go out of the way.

Object:Blood

Meaning: In the Hidden Inventory Arc and in the later Shinjuku Showdown Arcs, Gojo was bleeding. Blood is necessary symbolism for life and vitality. If someone doesn't bleed or have blood, they are either dead or pale. Gojo bleeding suggests his mortality; he isn't immortal or limitless. He can bleed; he is a human, but an extraordinary one.

Object:South

Meaning: In Jujutsu Kaisen, the South has a distinct symbolism. Going South is the act of staying who you are (once arrogant, arrogant again) and not changing (arrogant to good). Gojo’s conclusion is centered around going "South," which means that he wants to stay true to his identity, as just Gojo Satoru and nothing else.

Object:Weapon

Meaning: Throughout the series, people see Gojo as a perfect weapon, especially the higher-ups. This symbolizes that Gojo is so extraordinary and unnatural that people see him as a weapon rather than a human, stripping away his individuality.

Psychological Profile / Coping Mechanisms

https://preview.redd.it/35z6bkgkc6kh1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=836a8a24e3870191c63bbb3752d6a5b0aec1e0ca

Despite being mentally strong and physically strong, Gojo has various coping and defense mechanisms throughout the series.

Immaturity / Performative

As established, he has a flamboyant or playful personality. This functions as a coping mechanism for emotional exhaustion, dealing with higher-ups, and the crushing weight of responsibility as the strongest.

Pride / Arrogance

By definition, Gojo can be considered arrogant through his interactions with Utahime and other characters who are weaker than him. This can function as a coping mechanism for external superiority. Gojo isn't superior to his own self, as seen in his crashout in the Shibuya Incident at the train station. Because he cannot have superiority over himself, he needs to have superiority over others.

External vs. Internal Isolation

Gojo’s isolation is centered around internal isolation. While he has many friends, students, and a prominent "dad figure" like Yaga, none of those people can reach his level, making Gojo feel mentally lonely while being physically surrounded by people.

The Death of Ego

We can comfortably say that Gojo has an enormous amount of ego, such as self-awareness and the "I." In the Hidden Inventory arc, Gojo’s ego was deconstructed by a homeless man who doesn't pay child support, which is an ego death: the deconstruction of his arrogant self, which later happened again, but with a different execution and motion in the Shinjuku Showdown.

The Ascension

https://preview.redd.it/6d4bz4o5d6kh1.jpg?width=842&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f5d60902afc21225ffd18cf14191812ecfe0dcc

One of the most important moments in Gojo’s character arc is the "Honored One" part. In this state, Gojo is enlightened and doesn't feel emotions like hate or wrath anymore; he sees the world with another sight and perception.

Ideology & Philosophy

https://preview.redd.it/s3fgivmmd6kh1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b432e4ffb35089c2bce9e9119fc6171dbeac4c36

Throughout the series, Gojo adopts and builds a philosophy and an ideology for managing and coping with his past traumas and the fraudulence of the Higher-Ups.

Education Over Violence: While Gojo has the power to execute and eliminate every Higher-Up, he does not choose the easy path of killing. Instead, he chooses to educate students and the new generation to build a better Jujutsu society and structure. He knows that if he simply kills the Higher-Ups, individuals who are even worse will take their place, continuing the cycle.

Protection of Youth and Autonomy: While traditional Jujutsu society views young people merely as weapons or tools, Gojo’s philosophy prioritizes freedom, self-determination, and the protective care of children. He wants his students to become self-determined rather than relying on him, actively shielding them from the system and structure of Jujutsu society.

Individuality and Pragmatic Moral Detachment: Gojo operates within a highly pragmatic ethical system rather than relying on pure dogmatism or superficial altruism. In the Hidden Inventory Arc, he ascends and enters a state of egoistic transcendence driven by personal conviction. He is deeply individualistic because he chooses what he does next, acting as the supreme force of his own self.

Dynamics & Relationships

Throughout the series, Gojo meets new friends and opponents that highlight his flaws and parts of his mind through opposing ideologies, philosophies, and parallels.

Geto and Gojo

https://preview.redd.it/3tx48ln2e6kh1.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93aa69af7146b025ef4c4b51560a2455fe4610ff

Geto and Gojo is Gojo’s primary and main dynamic. During the Hidden Inventory Arc and the teen years of Gojo, Gojo and Geto are best friends.

Geto acts as a moral compass to Gojo. Geto argues that one needs to protect the weak rather than killing or crushing them, and Gojo has the power and will to balance and execute Geto’s rigid worldview.

They defined themselves as "the strongest," but not as one individual; the strongest is the collective mindset and power of both Geto and Gojo, sharing the responsibility.

In the Hidden Inventory Arc and the incident of the Star Plasma Vessel’s death (Riko), both "strongest" changed and had development over this incident.

https://preview.redd.it/ud2q4f4we6kh1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4c1bb94ec37b643294fdfe9c3e36bf86e434fd2

Gojo: Gojo unlocked Reverse Cursed Technique and achieved near-invulnerability. The collective "We are the strongest" dissolved into "I am the strongest/Honored One," rather than saying "We are the Honored One."

Geto: While Gojo ascends and gains superiority, Geto experienced the psychological pressure of Riko’s death and the inferiority of being defeated by a "monkey" who doesn't have cursed energy.

Role Reversal: Geto, having once claimed a worldview of protecting non-sorcerers and the weak, now sees those individuals as "monkeys." Just like monkeys, these individuals don't have intelligence or the power to advance or become stronger, and Geto started committing genocide and other heavy crimes for the sake of his worldview.

On the other hand, Gojo’s development is centered around adopting Past Geto’s protective instinct to protect the weak and non-sorcerers, making him a mentor for Jujutsu society.

Gojo was isolated by his own power and strength, and Geto was isolated because of Riko’s death and internal trauma; Gojo was still calling Geto "his one and only best friend."

Gojo vs. Sukuna

https://preview.redd.it/jv23bf9cf6kh1.jpg?width=895&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d8290af7e69a9cd8fbad0e06ee374e4536e0401

The dynamic between Gojo and Sukuna is the catalyst of Jujutsu Kaisen’s philosophical and ideological exploration and parallels.

Opposite Forces: Gojo became "The Honored One" and enlightened, using that power for protective behavior, altruism, collectivism, and protecting young people. Sukuna was the "Disgraced One"; he had similar power to the Honored One, but used that power for destruction, hedonism, and personal desires/ego.

View on Loneliness: Both characters are equally lonely. While Sukuna’s loneliness is both external and internal (Uraume is just a cooking machine, by the way), Gojo, despite his loneliness, tries to make sure the new generation isn't lonely and relies on altruism and collectivism through companionship.

Sukuna has the same loneliness but selects a different path. He is the embodiment of power hierarchy and individualism; he knows that his meaning of life is advancing, killing, and eating. He does everything that he wants or pleases.

View on Power: Gojo sees "power" as a tool to teach new Jujutsu sorcerers and help non-sorcerers. He controls power excellently and uses that power for helping and building the next generation.

Sukuna views power as a tool for self-pleasure and the freedom to do anything he wants. He is an extreme individualist and a hedonist, using power to crush, kill, or advance.

View on Non-Sorcerers / Weak People: Gojo sees weak people as "the architects of the new generation" and variables that need to be helped or protected. He adopted that worldview from Geto and continued it until his death.

Sukuna sees non-sorcerers and weak people as trash. He thinks that only strong individuals need to live and that the "strong need to show their dominance against the weak." He gets impressed by true sorcerers and strong people.

View on Hierarchy: Gojo views the Jujutsu hierarchy as corrupt and filled with hypocrisy and fraudulence, but he does think that hierarchy should exist because of order and cleanliness. He doesn't try to erase hierarchy through power and violence, but erases hierarchy with companionship and the new generation.

Sukuna thinks that every hierarchy other than strength is boring because he only cares about power and status. He breaks and erases hierarchies and structures with pure violence and self-pleasure.

Quote Analysis

Throughout the series, Gojo has said many quotes and speeches about his own power, curses, and the hierarchy of Jujutsu society.

"Nah, I'd win."

https://preview.redd.it/3wqfad4qf6kh1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=264f2fae88f77310d623e15d23f5e24994fd8e9b

This quote represents Gojo’s confidence. He sees Sukuna not as an excellent enemy, but as an enemy that can be wielded and defeated. Also, this represents his potential superiority complex.

"Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo? Or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?"

https://preview.redd.it/mgrxxz1ig6kh1.jpg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6496c39086d01ee366c66d6d0f9d9738d33c99c8

A quote spoken by Geto in his last conversation with Gojo in the Hidden Inventory and teen arcs, this quote is about morality and capability, along with a weapon and a person.

"Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo?"

Meaning: Your strength is an extension of who you are. Your mindset, individual soul, and personal identity are what make you powerful and a person.

"Or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?"

Meaning: Your identity is entirely reduced to your utility as a weapon. You exist to the world only as "the strongest," stripping away your individual humanity until you are nothing more than a functional title and a weapon for the higher-ups and corrupted Jujutsu society.

"Dying to win and winning even if you die are two completely different things."

Gojo makes a clear distinction between hopeless suicide and true ambition. He thinks that throwing away one's own life is a limit on potential, while taking immense risks to survive and evolve is the pinnacle of a sorcerer's evolution.

"Love is the most twisted curse of all."

This demonstrates how powerful human attachment to curses can be, and how love can distort souls more strongly than mental violence and blood. Also, it applies to Gojo’s grief for Geto and the twisted love they built.

Conclusion of Gojo & Analysis

https://preview.redd.it/u2moen2vg6kh1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=842914feb97988b9216b3e99302e611613deb62e

In Chapter 236 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo was killed by Sukuna using the World Cutting Slash, an attack that bypassed Infinity by targeting spatial space instead of Gojo.

This quote carries many meanings and symbolisms because it is the conclusion of Gojo and the last conversation.

Liberation: In his adult life, Gojo had a responsibility because of Jujutsu society, teaching students and balancing the weight of the world, but his fight with Sukuna acts like freedom. He doesn't need to be a protector or a teacher anymore; he is a Jujutsu sorcerer.

Satisfaction: Throughout the series, Gojo had some sort of sadness and boredom because of how easy his opponents really were and the burden of being the strongest, but in the end, he found an opponent that could push him to his absolute limit.

The Duality: While Gojo acts like a protective mentor for his students, he is also a Jujutsu fanatic who loves fights and the difficulty of situations.

The Connection: I established that everyone cannot reach Gojo because his Infinity symbolizes his loneliness, but in the end, Sukuna could bypass Infinity and leave a trace in Gojo’s memories. However, that connection is not emotional or love; it is a connection of death and defeat.

The End of Analysis

https://preview.redd.it/9qnyrs0nh6kh1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5238ee2d779d89c83c2ad40b34d0561803fdbe75

''Let him cook"

So, it is the end of the analysis; it has about 2,900+ words. Gojo is a well-written, deep, and complex character. His dynamics explore each side of his actions and psyche, along with his conclusion acting like a bittersweet ending with thematic messages.

Jujutsu Kaisen needs to get recognition in writing quality instead of powerscaling.

And also, I am thinking of making a Sukuna version of this; he isn't as well-written as Gojo, but he has good elements too.

And also, for people who say, "Why didn't you analyze some quotes?", because those quotes are boring and I explained everything in past pages/analysis. And also for people who ask, "Why don't you get into Buddhist stuff?", because it's boring.

Charles Eyler Analysis

One day, I was bored and decided to make an analysis for Charles Eyler (a prominent figure in the Hello Charlotte universe).

HOLY FUCKING SPOILERS

So, this analysis contains holy fucking spoilers and concepts that you probably haven't heard of (or have heard of). You can experience the game then come back to read the analysis, or take the risk and read the analysis, or play the game if you want.

Warning -> This analysis has over 3,000+ words of content. For comparison, it is roughly 22,843 characters (probably, I don't know), and there is nothing else btw.

Context

Hello Charlotte is a psychological surreal horror RPG series created by etherane. It takes place in a multi-layered reality structured around "Houses," "Realities," and meta-narrative hierarchies.

The protagonist, Charlotte Wiltshire, lives in an artificial world governed by "Puppeteers" (god-like figures or players controlling characters through "Puppet Puppeteering"). As the story progresses through Episodes 1–3 and Heaven's Gate, the narrative shifts from a surreal slice-of-life horror to a meta-commentary on isolation, mental illness, trauma, godhood, and existence.

Charles Eyler is a central character, major influence, and essential driving force across the Hello Charlotte timeline.

Charles serves as both a creator figure and a victim within the narrative hierarchy. He seeks control over his reality to escape emotional pain and trauma, often experimenting with pseudo-scientific and metaphysical concepts (such as "Pythia" and divine manipulation).

True Realm

What it is -> The actual physical world—a mundane, cruel reality where the real human individuals live.

Origin -> The birthplace of Charles Eyler, Vincent Wordsworth, and Henrietta (Anri) Warhol.

Key Features -> There are no magical powers, Puppeteers, or TV worlds here. It is characterized by isolation, mental illness, family trauma, and the suicide of Charles Eyler.

False Realm

What it is -> The surreal, multi-layered world where the events of Hello Charlotte take place (including The House, TV World, and Überia).

Origin -> Created upon Charles Eyler's death. When a person dies, their "Soul Cube" explodes, manifesting a new universe born entirely from their mind, memories, and perception (which could be hell or paradise depending on the person’s state of mind).

Key Features -> Governed by gods and Puppeteers. The people in this realm (e.g., Charlotte, the False Realm versions of Vincent and Anri) are exaggerated manifestations or "puppets" derived from Charles’s perception of those individuals in the True Realm.

Summary of the Plot (Charles Eyler)

In the True Realm, a young boy named Charles Eyler lived there. His mother had several critical mental issues, his father’s origin was unknown, and he had a tulpa (mental projection) of his unborn sister called Scarlett Eyler.

Because Charles Eyler lived in a literal house of hell (his mother's illness, unborn sister, unknown father), he wrote a fanfiction to cope and create a defense mechanism.

Charles Eyler wanted to be a doctor to find the cure for his mother’s mental and physical illness, because the cure was so expensive and there was almost no money left.

Charles Eyler had a friend named Vincent. Vincent was writing a story, and Vincent believed there was a realm/dimension beyond the actual physical realm. That dimension is where souls go after life, a.k.a. the Afterlife and Heavenly Kingdom.

As evidence, Vincent convinced Charles to commit double suicide to prove the Heavenly Kingdom and afterlife exist. Vincent jumped and suicided successfully, but Charles was such a coward that he couldn't commit suicide and stayed on top of the building.

After Vincent died, Charles had no coping mechanism or dependency; his friend was gone for nothing. His mother was calling Charles "she" because his mother thought Charles was Scarlett (the unborn sister in the womb). Because of that, Charles experienced a mental crashout and suicided in an ocean.

Color Symbolism

Hello Charlotte uses specific colors for specific characters to make a character’s essence have parallels and connections with that color’s meaning; it is called "color symbolism."

My argument for color symbolism in Hello Charlotte is centered around Umbrella Man’s (Puppeteer/Government) quote:

"We are born colorless," he said, tying it around my collar, "it’s the people we meet who give us color."

If your reading comprehension is average or above, you can understand that this quote is centered around "color -> personality/meaning," which is literal color symbolism.

BLACK

Black is one of three primary colors of the Hello Charlotte universe. Black in color theory/symbolism means that black represents depression, isolation, loss, and some sort of darkness and mystery. Charles’s design is centered around a "black palette," which represents that Charles has depression, isolation, and loss (Vincent). Another speculative meaning could be "Charles as a black hole," because a black hole absorbs everything and makes everything lose meaning, comfort, and such. Charles makes everything around him go bad (as he thinks of himself as a failure for not saving his mother or convincing Vincent not to commit suicide).

WHITE

White is the second primary color of the Hello Charlotte universe. In color theory and symbolism, white represents purity, beginnings, and safety, but white can also represent concepts such as emptiness and being devoid of any emotion (in this context, "color").

White also represents purity in another way: colors are primarily chaotic and devoid of rule and order, but white represents the order and emptiness of color. It is devoid of any color possible; it is pure and stays pure until someone paints it.

Charles’s design palette is mostly black, but he wears white-themed clothes underneath black-themed clothes. This represents that Charles has some type of emptiness and a desire to be pure (in this context, "white"). Also, white represents "perfection" the absolute state of a being and an individual. Charles can never achieve perfection because he is fundamentally broken and flooded by anti-perfection (in this context, "black").

Parallel to a Tale

For Context: There is a tale called "Tale of the Ink Princess" in the Hello Charlotte universe. This tale has no particular ending; individuals choose their own ending for the tale, making it open to interpretation.

EP1 Once upon a time, in a far, far away land filled with ink, lived an Ink Princess.

Every morning she put on a pitch-black ink dress and combed her black hair. After spending thousands of years dwelling in the vast ocean filled with nothing but ink, the Princess decided to end her solitude. Thus, the Ink Princess set out on a journey.

EP2 The Princess passed through the fields, admiring how fruitful they were, and the crops got soaked in ink.

The Princess swam in the sea, admiring how vast and clear it was, and all the fish died from pollution. "Please leave these lands! Can't you see everything is dying?" the peasants begged the Princess. But the Ink Princess was deaf to their prayers, as her heart had been soaked in ink a long, long time ago. No matter where the Ink Princess went, she was always unwelcome.

EP3 One day, she stepped into the Paper Kingdom. Every step the Princess took stained the ground, leaving inerasable footprints. Everything she touched turned pitch-black, as if it was never white before. In order to protect the city, at the cost of many, many lives, the citizens caught the Ink Princess and had her thrown in a paperwhite prison.

Analysis of Tale The Ink Princess

wears a black dress and has black hair. If we say the dress equals Charles’s clothing, and Charles and the Ink Princess have the same black hair, we can assume that Charles equals the Ink Princess in that tale.

Just like Charles’s isolation and depression, the Ink Princess has the same type of solitude, isolation, and depression, but on an enormous scale (thousands of years).

The Ink Princess was making everything corrupt around her. Like when the Ink Princess was traveling, she passed several fields and thought how healthy and fruitful they were, but because the Ink Princess was covered in black (in this context, corruption), the crops got soaked in ink/black. After that, the Princess was swimming in the sea, admiring how vast, beautiful, and clean it was, but because the Princess was covered in ink/black, all the fish died from pollution and the sea was corrupted.

The Ink Princess was like Charles: wherever she went and thought "how beautiful that thing is," she was corrupting it using the ink/black. Just like Charles making the lives of the people around him become corrupted and go bad, Charles was corrupting everything, making everything go wrong, and making the order and beauty of the world vanish.

After that accident/incident, the Ink Princess went into the Paper Kingdom. The Paper Kingdom was "white"; the kingdom was stable, perfect, and pure, waiting to be corrupted. Every time the Ink Princess stepped into the Paper Kingdom, the white perfection of paper was getting corrupted by the sheer ink and black that the Ink Princess had and spread.

In order to protect the city’s perfection and purity, citizens caught the Ink Princess and threw her into paper prison.

The original tale ended there; there is no canon/original section of what happened after the Ink Princess. Because of that, we use interpretations of the tale, and the best interpretation is from Frei (godlike creatures):

A pitiful ink-black princess that looked for minds alike who ended up in prison of Paper Kingdom.

But the story didn't end here. Time passed, and Paper Princess herself came to visit the prisoner. The two became acquaintances shortly after, and Ink Princess was freed from imprisonment. Ink Princess taught Paper Princess writing, and no paper in the city was blank anymore. They obtained power known as "knowledge". Paper Princess couldn't be happier. Yet, having spent so much time with Ink Princess, she became stained in Ink Princess's pitch-black color. Day by day, Paper Princess became more and more soaked in jet-black ink... ..until she was indistinguishable from the Ink Princess herself.

We already said that Charles was the Ink Princess. In that context, Vincent was the Paper Princess because he is the opposite of Charles, who is devoid of perfection and purity. Vincent’s color palette was almost flooded with white, which means that Vincent was perfection, a.k.a. the Paper Princess.

Charles and Vincent were friends, probably best friends. But because Charles was black and devoid of purity and perfection, Vincent was slowly corrupted via being friends with Charles, who was corrupting Vincent without knowing it, just like the Ink Princess corrupting the Paper Princess without knowing it. In the end, Charles corrupted Vincent and Vincent committed suicide, leaving Charles alone.

Ink Ink is something that Hello Charlotte consistently shows. By representation, ink represents corruption, depression, isolation, and mental/physical illness. The thing that makes ink interesting is its connection to Charles and the Tale of the Ink Princess. The Ink Princess was corrupting everything with ink without knowing it and accidentally; Charles was corrupting Vincent with ink (because Charles had ink-like hair and clothing) without knowing it and accidentally.

Gnosticism

For Context: Gnosticism is an ancient group of religious and philosophical movements from the first and second centuries CE. It centers on gnosis, a secret or mystical spiritual knowledge. Followers believed a divine spark is trapped inside human bodies and can be freed through inner awakening rather than church rules.

In Gnosticism, there is a flawed, evil god called the Demiurge that created the material world (a.k.a. physical universe/world), an artificial, mystical world created by an evil, flawed god rather than a perfect god like Yahweh.

In Hello Charlotte, the Demiurge’s equivalent is inherently Charles, who created the "False Realm" an artificial, mystical, flawed creation/world. Because Charles suffers from severe trauma, isolation, depression, and some type of anxiety, his creation (False Realm) was fundamentally broken, chaotic, and saturated with corruption, heavily symbolized by ink.

As I said, the False Realm was a representation of the material/flawed world created by Charles (a.k.a. the Demiurge). Because Charles was fundamentally broken and dealing with severe depression, his creation (the world) was corrupted, filled with bizarre creatures, abstract geometry, surrealism, and corruption, representing that the world was just an illusion and the real truth was far away.

SPOILERS for EP3

In the end, Q84 (another version of Charlotte) and Charles broke and destroyed the Mother (a representation of Charles’s mother who had mental/physical illness; in the False Realm, the Mother is depicted as a near-omnipotent being that spawns Charlottes). Charles and Q84 destroyed the Mother; destroying the Mother affects the fabric of the False Realm, leading to the death of reality itself.

This represents a twisted version of "Gnostic Awakening." In original Gnosticism, Gnostic Awakening concludes with light, escaping the material world, and ascending to a higher realm and status.

But in Hello Charlotte, Gnostic Awakening concludes not with light or escaping; it represents the truth behind the illusion of the material world, and gnosis is just the painful truth of reality that characters don't know or don't want to face at all.

Charles is not a copy of the Demiurge; the Demiurge was inherently filled with malice and evilness, while Charles just accidentally created the material world, not out of malice, but out of isolation, anxiety, and a way to cope with harsh reality.

Creation vs. Creator

For Context: The main protagonist of Hello Charlotte is Charlotte Wiltshire. She is flooded with a white palette, representing her purity and perfection.

However, the relationship between Charlotte and Charles is almost an opposing force. Charles was flooded with a black and ink palette, but Charlotte was flooded with a white palette. Later, however, Charlotte vomits ink. As I explained earlier, ink represents illness, depression, and corruption; Charlotte was slowly descending into madness and depression.

Furthermore, Charlotte was the perfect creation of Charles. She was flooded with white, she was altruistic, and more; but Charles was fundamentally broken and devoid of altruism and such. It raises the question: "How can a flawed creator create a perfect creation?"

Also, ink in Hello Charlotte represents "Hyle" in Gnosticism. Hyle was the fundamental building material of the material world, and Hyle represents corruption, illusion, and essentially a prison for beings inside the material world.

In Gnostic texts, individuals who live in the material world and are incapable of receiving gnosis and the divine spark are called "Hylics." Most beings and individuals in the False Realm can be depicted as Hylics.

Other individuals who have the "divine spark" and are capable of breaking the illusion are called "Pneumatics" ones that have the divine spark, power, and will to escape. In this context, it is Q84.

Charles’s Psychology

Charles’s psychological foundation started in an environment of home emotional neglect and an unknown father.

Burden: He grew up with a mom who had mental/physical illness and who projected her own grief onto him. Charles internalized the belief that his very existence was an inconvenience or a burden to those around him. His mother calling him "she" represented Charles’s value to his mother.

Coldness and Exterior: Because emotional support was absent and hidden during his developmental years, he adopted a distant, passive, and cynical exterior as a defense mechanism to insulate himself from further rejection or harm.

One of the most defining aspects of Charles’s psyche is his unborn sister called "Scarlett Eyler," along with his severe dissociation, hallucinations, and psychotic episodes.

Manifestation of Scarlett Eyler: To fulfill his mother’s yearning for an aborted/lost daughter, Charles created "Scarlett" initially an imagined mental projection/tulpa to gain his mother's approval, which is why his mother was calling Charles "she."

Alter-Ego: Over time, Scarlett transformed into a voice of severe self-loathing, perfectionism, and inner/external hostility. Scarlett acts as a harsh internal judge, often "taking the wheel" during blackouts, leaving Charles to wake up hours later in unfamiliar places and telling Charles to "become a doctor" in a psychologically and physically violent way.

Psychotic Break and Medications: Charles relies heavily on antipsychotic medication (such as Abilify). When these medications fail or trauma spikes, his psychological coherence completely breaks down into derealization and depersonalization.

Mysophobia: Mysophobia is the fear of touching things that are often depicted as "dirty." Charles Eyler has severe mysophobia. It symbolizes Charles’s obsession with being as pure and perfect as white, which is why he wears white gloves through most of the game.

Charles suffers from extreme attachment issues, oscillating between total withdrawal and intense, idolized fixations.

Vincent as Savior: Charles projects his need for meaning and salvation onto Vincent Fennell, viewing him as a god-like entity or absolute idol.

Death of Vincent: In timelines where Vincent dies, Charles’s psychological anchor is permanently shattered. The loss strips away his primary reason to endure, pushing his mind past its threshold into deeper psychotic fragmentation and nihilism, alongside the guilt of not saving Vincent and corrupting him.

As Charles's mental state deteriorates, his perception of humanity undergoes a grotesque transformation.

Distortion of Others: He experiences profound derealization, visually and emotionally perceiving other people not as human beings, but as repulsively non-human "parasites" who possess people and individuals, saying "they are everywhere."

Self-Contempt: Eventually, this perception turns inward he comes to view himself and his loved ones as part of that same parasitic corruption, fueling suicidal ideation and destructive behavior. It is a representation of Charles’s ink corruption.

Within the meta-fictional framing of Hello Charlotte, Charles’s trauma is amplified by his awareness of control and lack of agency and free will.

Puppet Consciousness: He experiences claustrophobia stemming from the sense that his choices are controlled and decided by higher beings (the Puppeteer/Player).

Violence as Expression: In an environment where he feels completely powerless, erratic or violent outbursts serve as a desperate attempt to assert control over a predetermined narrative.

Philosophy of Charles Eyler

Charles embodies the claustrophobia of a predetermined existence. In his human life, his environment marked by parental neglect, severe mental illness, and isolation strips him of literal agency.

Puppet Dynamic: Charles questions whether his actions, emotions, and choices are genuinely his own or merely prewritten scripts by higher beings and entities.

In the universe of Hello Charlotte, dying transitions Charles into a "God of the House" who constructs a world out of his own unresolved trauma, memories, and fears. This creates a philosophical commentary on solipsism and the subjective nature of reality and realms.

Externalized Trauma and Creation: The world of Hello Charlotte is not a physical space, but a materialized projection of Charles's internal mind, trauma, and delusions.

Entities as the Self: The inhabitants of the world represent fragments of Charles's psyche or interpretations of real-world figures in his life (such as Vincent and Anri). His creation proves that when a world is born purely from suffering, its reality inherits the same claustrophobic and false nature.

Faced with unbearable emotional distress, Charles copes through psychological fragmentation, splitting his identity into entities that never existed.

Charlotte Wiltshire: Serves as the idealized, innocent, and fragile version of himself an attempt to preserve purity and hope in a hostile world and the desire for perfection like Charlotte.

Scarlett Eyler: Functions as his internalized cruelty and trauma, a manifestation of his "inner demons" that punish him for his perceived failings and drive his false and bad behaviors.

Charles’s arc is tied to existential pessimism and the urge to escape a meaningless and painful, fake reality of existence.

Creation as Coping: Lacking control in the real world, creation becomes his specialized form of escapism. However, creating a new reality does not grant him peace; it merely reproduces the same cycles of isolation and suffering.

Antinatalism says that bringing new sentient beings into existence is inherently harmful because it exposes them to guaranteed suffering without their choice or consent.

The Creator’s Burden: As a "God," Charles repeats the mistake of creation. By spawning worlds and entities like Charlotte, he subjects them to the same cycles of grief and suffering that broke him in the True Realm.

The Conclusion of Charles Eyler and the Analysis of Quotes

The conclusion of Charles (True Realm) is depicted as drowning in the vast ocean, but the interesting part is the ocean was seen like "ink and black," which also represents corruption and the conclusion.

"Would an entire ocean really be enough to wash all the ink off me, I wonder?" This represents the sin and the failure of Charles Eyler. Ink in this context symbolizes guilt, sin, and corruption, and the act of cleaning represents the state of being devoid of sins and failures to achieve complete cleanliness, purity, and perfection.

"If there is an afterlife, I don't want to be the protagonist." "Someone like Charlotte would be more fitting for the spotlight."

This represents the failure in life and the story (in this context, "life"). Charles Eyler has flaws, is devoid of good emotions, and fundamentally has delusions and psychological issues, but Charlotte is an altruistic girl who doesn't have any flaws and can achieve perfection. Charles doesn’t want to be a protagonist.

"In the end, my story wasn't about overcoming hardships." "It was a story of giving up."

This shows the pessimistic and nihilistic thinking style of Charles Eyler. He doesn't have hope for life and existence; he thinks that while stories are often about the power of friendship and plot armor, his story is about giving up—reflecting the worldview and philosophy of the author and passive nihilism (Nietzsche), the idea that life doesn't have any meaning, or that the meaning of life is simply suffering and not learning from pain.

"There was nothing to be sad about." "All ended well, didn't it?"

This represents a defense and coping mechanism. Charles thinks that there was nothing to be sad about because the meaning of life is to suffer and die. There was nothing to be sad about because the goal was completed the act of dying and descending into nonexistence and he doesn't want to exist again.

End of Analysis. Charles was a prominent figure who had psychological, philosophical, and thematic depth and conflicts enough depth and complexity to solo your favorite anime/manga and LN verse.

3-Cinayetler/Adalet

Hello Charlotte Gnosticism And Color Symbolism

Hello Charlotte

Hello Charlotte is a surreal, psychological horror RPG Maker trilogy by Estonian developer Etherane.

You play as the "Puppeteer" (the player), controlling a sweet, innocent young puppet girl named Charlotte who lives in a bizarre house filled with aliens, gods, and systemic corporate dystopia.

It blends dark comedy with severe existential dread, body horror, and deep metanarratives about childhood trauma, isolation, and how we use fiction to cope with reality. Think "Needy Streamer Overload" meets cosmic philosophy.

After finishing Hello Charlotte for the third time, I decided to analyse the things that had been on my mind, and I realised there are plenty of Gnostic allusions and colour symbolism in Hello Charlotte

1-Soul Cubes

Soul Cubes are metaphysical cubes which, in the ‘Hello Charlotte’ Universe, create a new universe from the soul of a person when that person dies; and the

state of the universe to be created from a person’s Soul Cube depends on that person’s state of mind and circumstances. In other words, the universes born from the Soul Cubes of those in a bad state become corrupted and hellish, whilst those of people in a good state become beautiful and heavenly.

2 – Charles and the False Realm

Hello, Charlotte’s World was created by Charles’s Soul Cube, and as you know, Charles’s mind and mental health are not in good shape—he suffers from depression, and isolation, this fake realm is in such a flawed and broken state. Because if the creator is flawed, the created thing is also flawed. That’s why Charles is a figure —a figure who, though not as evil or ruthless as the Demiurge himself, is flawed just like him, and the universes they created are also flawed.

As for the connection between the False Realm and the Material World, in Gnosticism the Material World is depicted as evil, corrupt, and a place where souls are imprisoned—and, ultimately, a flawed world. In the False Realm, however, souls are imprisoned because of the “Mother,” and we cannot say that the False Realm is a perfectly flawless and safe realm; the Creator of both worlds is as flawed as the worlds themselves.

3-Gnosis and EP3

In Gnosticism, the path to liberation from the material world is to attain Gnosis; Gnosis can liberate a person’s soul from the material world and lead them to the true divine source. At the end of EP3, in the True Ending, Q84 and Charles are freed from the illusion and the false realm—in a sense, they attain Gnosis—but here, Gnosis is not the beginning of peace; it is merely a symbol of discerning truth from illusion.

4-The Symbolism of Black and White

Black and white—two of the colors we see most often in the game—allow us to draw conclusions about Charlotte and Charles’s psychology and the characters’ personalities.

Black

While the color black has many meanings, its most prominent ones are melancholy, depression, and pessimism. The reason black is so significant in the world of *Hello Charlotte* stems from the fact that “ink”—one of the game’s symbolic elements—is black. In the world of *Hello Charlotte*, ink represents death and corruption. One reason for this is that during constantly vomiting ink during EP2 serves as a symbol indicating that her condition is not improving. In the scene where Charles commits suicide, he wonders if he can wash away the ink on the water’s surface—which underscores the fact that ink also represents sins. The term “washing” refers to cleansing oneself of dirt and shedding it. Symbolically, it is also a belief that people can wash away their sins and evils through washing. Black can also be interpreted as a symbol of imperfection, because Charles is a flawed person, and black is one of the colors that does not reflect light; this could also indicate that black actually rejects light—that is, goodness.

White

White generally represents innocence, perfection, and purity. White is the only color that combines all other colors and is flawless and perfect, and when we think of “white” in the game, the first character that comes to mind is “Charlotte.” Charlotte’s design is almost entirely covered in white, which not only highlights her innocence and purity but also represents her perfection. Charlotte is a perfect main character—she is polite, gentle, and free from sin—which is why her design is almost entirely white.

The Relationship Between the Creator and the Creation

The relationship between the Creator and the Creation is one of the deepest and most frequently used dynamics throughout history. In *Hello Charlotte*, this dynamic is utilized; Charles is the creator of the Charlottes and the False Realm. He is a flawed creator, which is why most of the beings he creates are flawed. That is why he is a Demiurge (a flawed Creator), while Charlotte is a flawless creation; that is why she is white and Charles is black—a flawless being has emerged from a flawed Creator.

TL;DR: In *Hello Charlotte’s World*, the False Realm and the True Realm are related to the spiritual and material worlds in Gnosticism; Charles is a flawed god and is therefore a demiurge; while black represents corruption and depression, White represents innocence and perfection; there is a creator-creation relationship between Charles and Charlotte, and Charles is a flawed creator while Charlotte is a flawless creation; Hyle and Ink serve similar functions.
