Leaving the field

I am leaving this field but the transition out is brutal because my research resume is only from academia and the childcare one is the only one with field experiences. I have to find a place for me but it’s been very difficult because no math based jobs seem to fit, no people facing jobs seem to fit. all that’s left is science and that would require a doctorate :( I really don’t want a doctorate so I’ll just cry for a few days. thanks for all the support.

Jobs and the situation of my suffering

every time I finally find something I’m like ok this might be soooo much better, I get shot down. Why is every job people facing?!?! I don’t want to deal with people all day every day anymore. Fed up. and I’m fed up with the time I wasted trying out aba counseling occupational and physical therapy as professions and nannying and being a preschool teacher and swim instructor and wasted time in my BA in psychology

medical lab science sounds boring because there’s no medical mystery to it, I don’t want a doctorate but I’m willing to get a Masters but I’m exhausting myself trying to find the right one. Going to blow up and have a meltdown again this week

feeling very useless. was even considering my own business and then I have to work with PEOPLE!!! AGH

Someone referred me to this field

I got referred here but my cousin works in this field and it just doesn’t sound very fun or amazing or cool to me. there aren’t any medical mysteries and it sounds routine and boring. I like genetics because there’s a mystery to it, don’t want to be a genetic counselor, but like the research side of that. what are yalls thoughts about this particular field compared to other science based ones autistic people go into? Btw, I’m the only one actually diagnosed in my family

Different degree paths to go into genetic research

not counseling. just the research side I can’t stand being around people all day and having to meet their emotional needs I’m autistic. I have a BA in psychology and I am willing to do some prereqs but like people keep saying it’s better to do a PhD it’s better and I’m like I do not want a PhD. I JUST want to do research. people make this out like I’m asking for a fairy unicorn. please help . DO NOT coerce me into getting a PhD. Do not belittle my major.

Help

hi!!! is this a great field for autistic people who already have their Bachelors (who are motivated to get their prereqs done that are missing to enter a MS in this?) I got my BA in psychology (but also attended school for Occupational Therapy beforehand) and what I learned is I can’t STAND to spend all day constantly meeting the emotional needs of other people and I don’t like math so hiding behind excel doing data science is out and this also excludes market research data analyst, really anything ending in data analyst… so no therapist job, no psychologist, no ABA therapist, no crisis counselor for SI, that’s just all way too intense for me!!!!! I’m hoping this is maybe more science than people? what do you think???

Vent about my frustration

I’m noticing that the families I work with where the child has been sleep trained are often not paying a liveable wage and I believe just because a baby is sleep trained does not mean you can pay 12-19$ per hour. I also notice families who I have worked with who pay 25$ per hour are not as transparent as they could be about the job position and it ends up being a lot harder for me to do the job. I personally can’t sustain 6 hours per day of contact napping AND family laundry AND infant laundry AND dishwasher things during periods families are feeding their babies if they don’t accept bottles. What are your thoughts? this did lead me to resign from a job after a week and a half. I don’t think it would’ve worked with the other family either because they were not moved into the home I went to for the interview when I went and the mother and infant weren’t present. they just wanted me to decide after meeting the father. why are these families like this? This is a change I feel since after Covid. even non work from home families I feel are harder to work for.

New contract

the family stated in the first draft of this contract they “may” request the nanny work additional hours if 35 hours per week not met due to scheduling such as for a date night. does this mean “may” or “HAVE TO WORK ADDITIONAL HOURS to offset unpaid time or PTO”. also, I hate North Carolina law because no paid leave is required so they’re not offering any

should I at least TRY to re connect with the other family offering more pay, paid sick time and paid time off and not really fighting GH or should I try to work it out with this one. they’re both first time parent families

I had received two offers about a week ago and my gut told me to pick the family who was not actively in the middle of a move
