I am getting Cabin filter replaced because the manual recommends so but I couldn't find anything in the manual regarding this AC recharge/refresh. Thanks!

I recently moved to a new apartment in the triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) area in North Carolina and noticed these "ant hill" looking objects in the balcony storage area. I have seen such formations around furniture and it was termites, but I'm new to the area and want to know if these can be termites too. Thanks!
