I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but I've wanted to reserve some of my painting time for skittle manis. I started out doing skittles because, if you know me it will be no surprise to you that I couldn't pick just one color or polish...so why not all!? Time for "Sunday Skittles"!

It's been difficult for quite some time to feel "patriotic" when the very idea of patriotism has been heavily politicized and co-opted by the right for decades at this point. For many people, seeing someone wave an American flag or wear its design (which, ironically, isn't even consistent with U.S. flag code 😘) has become less a symbol of unity and more a signal that the person may not think I should exist and to prepare for some nasty comments or violence. Even wearing these felt conflicting when I started, and the fear of backlash from what message these colors send seeps in.

But to me, one of America's greatest freedoms is the right to question, criticize, and demand better from our government, public servants, and citizens. Patriotism isn't blind loyalty, it's caring enough about your country to want it to live up to its highest ideals.

So I think it's high time to reclaim red, white, and blue... just some loud queer joy mixed in. These polishes proudly wear patriotic colors in some stupid cool formulas that Painted Polish is already iconic for, but they're named in celebration of the queer community & a portion of the proceeds supports The Trevor Project! To me, that's a beautiful reminder that loving your country also means loving ALL people who call it home and working to ensure they can all live safely, openly, and with dignity. YAS Queen! 🗽🇺🇸

I rarely "schedule" a mani out ahead of time (I say this as I finish a whole collection of pride flags...granted I came up with each of those when I sat down to paint, so na na boo boo, it still counts 😝) but I KNEW this year my 4th mani was going to be reflecting pool nails. So did everyone else, apparently, and I LOVE IT. Seeing SO many people with algea nails helps drown out the constant drone from the adminsitartion, reminding us WE have the power and there are far more of us, we just need to be LOUDER than the hate. 🇺🇲 Nothing is more American than the ability to protest.

I did fluid art with a whole slew of colors and formulas to get the perfect blooming algae look! 🦠🇺🇸🗽

The whole algae debacle literally reflects some of the biggest issues with this historic administration. Corruption, cronyism, disrespecting history, not listening to experts, corruption, poor execution of skilled labor, clear obvious failing, finger pointing, quick fixes, corruption, cover ups, lies...the list can go on and it's just the scratching the surface of how incompetent, dangerous, and anti-American it is. America isn't perfect, but there are millions of kind-hearted Americans that get up every day and do the right thing for each other and fight, however they can, to make this a more perfect union. We're on stolen land, and no one is free until we're all free. Happy 4th! 🇺🇲

This was for a nail art collab I host on instagram where everyone is assigned a color and you make a monochromatic .ani/skittle/swatch based on that, putting a rainbow together in the end. This round I was assigned 💙Team Blue💙by the rainbow gods! I usually put an extra random theme onto the mini collages because I'm whimsical and love adding more work to jobs I invented for myself and don'tget paid for. I went with a tropical theme for this round and while making the template I used a Blue Tang (aka the fish the Dory is) for the Team Blue collage and immediately said out loud, well there is my mani! 🐟💙 Great inspo, got to gradient which you know I love...but then I was like...how the fuck do I do "Blue Tang Print" on my nails? I basically laid it out like someone just pasted a picture of a blue tang across my fingers and then cut off the excess, and I kinda LIVE for it haha. Abstract, but super obvious. Love! Rounding out this year's pride flag series with the progress pride flag!

In 2017, the city of Philadelphia adopted a revised version of the pride flag that adds black and brown stripes to the top of the standard six-color flag, to make a statement and draw attention to the issues of people of color marginalized within the LGBTQIA+ community.

In 2018, designer Daniel Quasar released a redesign dubbed the "Progress Pride Flag" incorporating elements from both the Philadelphia flag and the trans pride flag to bring focus on inclusion and progress within the community.

🤎🖤 The brown and black stripes put focus on marginalized people of color in the community, those living with HIV/AIDS, and those who have been lost.

🤍🩷🩵The white, pink, and blue represent the trans community.

The arrow points to the right to show forward movement while being along the left edge showing that progress still needs to be made.

In 2021, Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK redesigned the Progress Pride Flag to incorporate the intersex flag.

Now, these two progress pride flags variations are widely used alongside the "traditional" 6 stripe pride flag across the globe.

Hopefully throughout this pride flag series, you've learned something new or even had some curiosity to do your own research. At its heart, Pride is about empathy. I took a break from my pride flag collection because I treated myself to the absolute GIFT that Cristine gave us of all these gorgeous CREMES. Yes I know I'm in the minority in loving cremes, but they are the backbone of my collection and overwhelmingly what I use the most in nail art. Holo Taco has an absolute banger creme formula, and this color pallette is delicious. I obviously needed to gradient them. Was that even a question? I went with a little diagonal gradient so the edges kinda blended between each one, and I kept wanting MORE colors and ended up using 5 per nail. They are a perfect grouping and love that they are mildly "sunbleached" but also super vibrant. Hot DAMN do I love gradients 😝🌈

The LGBTQIA+ community encompasses many sexual and romantic orientations, as well as gender identities. The term transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth. In contrast, cisgender describes people whose gender identity does align with their assigned sex at birth.

Gender-diverse and transgender people have existed throughout recorded history and across countless cultures. While today's Western language and understanding of transgender identities began taking shape in the mid-20th century, the experiences themselves date back thousands of years.

The transgender pride flag was created in 1999 by trans woman Monica Helms and remains one of the most recognizable Pride flags today.

🩵 Blue represents masculinity.

🩷 Pink represents femininity.

🤍 White represents people who are intersex, non-binary, transitioning, or whose gender falls outside the traditional binary.

The scapegoating of our Trans siblings for political gain through fearmongering has been one of the most damaging the community. We must do all we can to support, protect, and lift up our trans friends and family. They have been the backbone of the modern fight for LGBTQIA+ rights. Those who have turned their back on them have betrayed the people who need our support the most. VOTE for those who will fight for their rights. Stand up against statements meant to cause fear in those who aren't educated on the Trans experience. Donate or work with charities like Trans Lifeline or the Trans Youth Equality Fund. 🏳️‍⚧️✊️

The Uni Ace Flag (short for Universal Asexuality Flag) was created in 2026 after almost 3 years of public discussion, research, and design by

Ace In Grace as an additional asexual flag, not a replacement for the existing 🖤🩶🤍💜 ace flag. The design aims to highlight the diversity of asexual experiences, intersectionality, multiculturalism, joy, visibility, and the many forms of love and intimacy that exist within the ace community. Supporters see it as a broader representation of modern ace experiences, while others prefer the original flag for its history and recognizability. One of the beautiful things about the queer experience is how self-discovery, community conversations, and the sharing of different perspectives continue to enrich our understanding of ourselves and each other.

🖤 Black: Support, understanding, awareness, and appreciation

🩶 Gray: The asexual spectrum, including gray-ace, demi, and microlabel identities

🤍 White: The many forms of intimacy and connection people experience

💛 Yellow: Multiculturalism, intersectionality, and joy within the ace community

🩷 Pink: The validity and diversity of all forms of love

💜 Purple: Visibility, advocacy, and uplifting the asexual community

I enjoy this color scheme and really appreciate the thought and work that went into its design. I tried multiple different designs and wasn't happy with any them in the end...it was one of those painting days where nothing clicked except that I was enjoying myself painting. Don't forget that failure is part of your journey. Embrace it! Enjoy the race even if you don't finish. It was a fun time! Infinally landed on a watermarble in the colors as it is an easy design concept to go to when I'm creativity locked (though rarely easy to execute 😝...these were like dip 8 by the end 😝)

This version of a Gay flag was created in 2019, designed closely with the updated 7 & 5 stripe sunset lesbian flag and has been widely accepted by the community. Like the terms Lesbian and Sapphic, there are many modern terms for gay men that take inspiration from past like Vincian and Achillean.

Of course, gender is a spectrum, so the gay community is diverse. This represents cis gay men, gay transgender men, bisexual men, and other male-aligned people who are sexually and/or romantically attracted to other male-aligned people.

🤍White stripe represents people who are transgender, intersex, gender non-conforming, or non-binary.

💙Indigo ombre stripes represent pure love, strength, and diversity.

This is from a skittle mani collab I cohost on Instagram. The theme for this round in June is obviously PRIDE month, and while I was going to do a true single polish skittles like I normally do on Sundays...but I pulled a me and decided to do something far more complicated because I'm off my rocker. I did a rainbow linear holo gradient, and then using (my least favorite nail art tool) striping tape, taped down a diagonal line and then did pride flag gradients on top of that. There are so many (follow along my pride flag series to learn about a few more!) and it was hard to choose a good blend of 4, so I chose the Lesbian Gay Bi and Trans flags. It looks like they are all wearing little rainbow gradient sashes in a pride parade, and I LOVE it. Next time, we're going single polish swatches, though 😝 !

This is from a skittle mani collab I cohost on Instagram. The theme for this round in June is obviously PRIDE month, and while I was going to do a true single polish skittles like I normally do on Sundays...but I pulled a me and decided to do something far more complicated because I'm off my rocker. I did a rainbow linear holo gradient, and then using (my least favorite nail art tool) striping tape, taped down a diagonal line and then did pride flag gradients on top of that. There are so many (follow along my pride flag series to learn about a few more!) and it was hard to choose a good blend of 4, so I chose the Lesbian Gay Bi and Trans flags. It looks like they are all wearing little rainbow gradient sashes in a pride parade, and I LOVE it. Next time, we're going single polish swatches, though 😝 !

The term Omnisexual has been around since the 1950's with it coming into more prevalence in the 1990's during the discussions and exploration of gender identity verbiage in many queer communities. It was brought to more general public spheres in the 2000's with many celebrities coming out as bi and pan, causing more open discussion. Many famous characters like Captian Jack in Doctor Who, Garek in Star Trek DS9 have been described as Omnisexual, with even Deadpool being described as having omnisexual exploits. The prefix Omni- is Latin for all, similar to Pan- meaning all in Greek. Bi Pan and Omni are all umbrella sexual attraction models, that can be distinct for some, and interchangeable for others.

Bisexual: Often defined as attraction to more than one gender.

Pansexual: Often defined as attraction regardless of gender, with the prefix “pan” coming from the Greek origins, meaning “all.”

Omnisexual: Often defined as attraction to all genders while still recognizing gender as part of attraction.

The omnisexual flag was designed by Pastelmemer in 2015.

💙 Blue represents attraction to masculinity and men

🩷🩵The light pink and light blue represent the gender spectrum.

💜 The dark Indigo Purple represents attraction to people whose gender falls outside of the categories above.

There have been many Lesbian flags over years...from the Labrys flag in 1999, and the Lipstick Lesbian Flag from 2010, but both have evolved and lost favor due to being linked to historical exclusionary messaging or issues with their creators, on top of just the classic evolution that language goes through due to sharing different experiences and perspectives.

This version is the most used modern flag nicknamed the "Sunset" Lesbian flag and was created in 2018 in response to many of the other previous lesbian flags (Lipstick and Labrys) being more exclusionary. This is the "simpler" 5-stripe version compared to the 7-stripe that has a midtone shade of orange and pink between each of the extremes but both are used widely by the community.

Of course, gender is a spectrum, so the lesbian community is diverse with flags representing cis lesbian women, lesbian transgender women, and other female aligned people who are attracted to female aligned people.

🤍White stripe: Represents their unique relationship with womanhood.

🩷Pink Gradient: Represents serenity and peace, love and sex, and femininity.

I wanted to use some lesbian imagery and for thousands the violet has been used as a symbol of Lesbian loved, tied to the poet Sappho from the Greek island Lesbos, where the term sapphic and lesbian come from.

Gender identity refers to a person's deeply felt, internal sense of being male, female, a blend of both, or neither. It is distinct from physical sex characteristics and sexual or romantic orientation. Because gender identity is personal and innate, it may or may not align with a person's sex assigned at birth or their outward gender expression.

The term "genderqueer" rose in popularity in United States through the late 1990s and early 2000s as it implemented thousands of years of ideas of non-binary identities and androgynousexpression. The term Non-binary also came to popularity during this time, and while Genderqueer and Non-binary can and are used interchangeably by many, some prefer one over the other as their personal identity. All of them are also terms that can fit under the transgender umbrella, but like everything, it will depend on the individuals personal identity.

The genderqueer flag was designed by Marilyn Roxie in 2011, with 3 equal stripes of lavender, white, and green.

💜 Lavender is the mixture of blue and pink (traditional colors associated with men and women, present on the transgender pride flag) as lavender is meant to represent androgynes and androgyny. Also represents the “queer” in genderqueer, as lavender is a color that has long been associated with “queerness”.

🤍 White is meant to represent agender identity, congruent with the gender neutral white on the transgender pride flag.

💚 Dark Chartreuse Green is the inverse of the lavender color which is used to represent those whose identities are defined outside of and without reference to the binary.
