Does anyone else know words but not actually know the definition?

I recently realized that there are a fair amount of words that I know, but can’t actually put definition to. When I’m reading, like to play a game in my head where I will attempt to define an unknown word before I google it. I sometimes try this on words that I know I understand, but I will still struggle to define it. Does this happen to anyone else? I hope I’m not alone.

I'm not understanding what I'm reading as much as I would like to, and it is upsetting.

I do not read often, but this summer, I wanted to make a conscious effort to read more in my free time. I decided to pick up The Picture of Dorian Gray 2 days ago, and the book is kind of interesting so far (no spoilers, please). However, sometimes it is quite hard to understand the philosophical parts of the book and the dialogue as well. I believe that there are 2 types of reading: reading for leisure and reading for learning. I would like to combine a mix of both so that I pull valuable information out of the book while enjoying the plot. Tips for getting better at comprehension would be greatly appreciated!

Should I major in Applied Math?

Hello all. I’m a rising junior in high school and I’m gearing up for college. I’m thinking about going to school for applied mathematics and I wanted to know if I’m in decent standing as of current. I’m alright at math, but certainly not the best.

Stats:

- 1110 on my PSAT with a 550 math score

- 21 on my Pre-ACT with a 20 math score

- 4.375 GPA

- No prior programming experience

- 94 in my Math III Honors class

- Taking Pre-calculus next semester

- Planning on taking AP Calculus and AP Statistics my senior year

Should I consider applying for an applied mathematics degree with these factors in mind? Also, will it still be worth it with the whole AI thing?

How do I spend money well within my means?

For some context, I am 16 years old, and I'm about to start my first job. I want to be very cautious with my paychecks, and to help me do that, I've already set up a budget on Notion. One thing that I am worried about, however, is spending way more than I should. I've already been eying a $400 pair of headphones that I really want, but the rationale in me says no (to be fair, the latter of the 2 choices would probably be better). I guess what I'm asking is, how do I spend well within my means in a way that allows me to live comfortably and enjoy the fruits of my labor?

Parents might get divorced and I don’t know who to go with

The title pretty much sums it up. I like my mom more than my dad but if I go with her, we will have to move to small apartment and I will go to a new high school (I’m currently a sophomore and really rather stay at my current school). If I stay with my dad I can continue to go to my high school and not move, but then I won’t be able to be with my mom as much and I’m very torn and stressed out about this. Advice?
