Built a free navigation app for E Scooters since Google Maps kept sending me up stairs

Spent way too long on this, figured I'd share, i built a navigation app made specifically for E Scooters because every other option treats us like cars or pedestrians and neither works.

It does turn-by-turn routing that tries to stay off highways, tells you if your battery will actually make the round trip before you leave, has weather built right into a ride planner, and there's a leaderboard for the competitive types. Free, no ads, no account unless you want the social stuff.

Still in closed beta on Google Play, looking for real riders to test it and tell me what's broken or missing. Link to join: https://groups.google.com/g/scootnav-closed-testers/c/meWKsmDAQH8

Google takes a few minutes to grant access after you join. The app is called ScootNav if you want to look it up first.

ScootNav

Built a scooter nav app because Google Maps kept routing me onto highways. Looking for testers.

So this has turned into a bit of an obsession but — I made an app specifically for e-scooter navigation. Turn-by-turn directions that actually avoid highways, battery range planning so you're not guessing if you'll make it home, weather built right into a ride calendar, plus a leaderboard if you're into that.

It's called ScootNav, it's free, no ads, no account needed unless you want the social stuff.

I'm opening up the closed beta on Google Play and honestly just want people who actually ride to break it and tell me what sucks. Join here if you're down: https://groups.google.com/g/scootnav-closed-testers/c/meWKsmDAQH8

Takes a few min after joining for Google to let you install. Solo dev, so any feedback at all is genuinely huge.

ScootNav Testing

Hey everyone! I ride an electric scooter and got sick of Google Maps treating me like a bicycle (routing me up pedestrian stairs or onto illegal roads).

I’m building ScootNav, a specialized scooter GPS app. It lets you link your scooter via Bluetooth, tracks terrain inclines, and automatically updates your navigation route to pass by free charging spots if you're running low on juice.

I need 12 Android alpha testers to hit Google Play's 14-day rule so I can launch the app. If anyone wants to check out the HUD dash and give feedback, please jump into our test launcher Google Group! You will see a ScootNav testing link click on that and test out the app! Cant wait to see it go live! If you log in with google and you ride you will gain points based on the ride length and mileage and have a chance to get high on the leaderboard before the app gets published!

Would you use a "Strava for E-Scooters" navigation app? (Seeking feedback!)

Hey everyone, I ride an electric scooter and I'm incredibly frustrated with Google Maps constantly routing me onto dangerous highways or terrible gravel roads.

I'm a developer and I'm building a specialized navigation app that prioritizes bike lanes and smooth paths. To make it fun, I'm thinking of adding a point/achievements system for safe riding and a social feed (like Strava) where you can post your trip maps, photos, and real-world battery/range stats linked to your specific scooter model.

  1. Would you actually use something like this?
  2. What features would make it a "must-have" for you?
  3. What is your biggest complaint about using standard GPS apps right now?

Appreciate any honest feedback!
