My new scooter for commuting

My new scooter for commuting

I recently replaced my cheap no brand scooter with a Madd Gear 250 scooter. The difference in the ride quality and the lack of rattles is the biggest change for me.

Is this possible?

UPDATE: Thank you so much for your kind suggestions! I am now restructuring my construction around the Micro monster scooter as kindly suggested by ericpalonen, which comes with 3 wheels and folds up so much neater.

The reason why I am making this is because I have a specific set of circumstances. Here in switzerland, if you bring a vehicle on the train you actually have to pay for an extra seat unless you can fold it. And I also have to bring groceries home. I can't carry a lot, so I initially just thought to get a normal trolley. I live at a place where small conveniences are just a tiny bit too far away. Like if I wanted to get some food or go to the home depot, It's usually a 30 minute walk for maybe a 6 pack of soda. Sure I can get a bike, but I really dislike going on the street.
I did actually look at the Micro Luggage 4.0, but I heard it's not that great for road use. I wanted a more heavy duty ride.

So a all in one compact folding grocery scooter is a very specific solution for a very specific problem.

---

I want to make a grocery trolley that turns into a scooter with a Razor A, and before I start the project I really need to know if the bearing in the steering column can be fully removed without destroying it. I haven't bought the scooter yet so this is why I can't just go look. Here's a picture if this helps:

Day old scooter with worn grip and wrong size - did I stuff up??

My boys (10 and 8) decided to use birthday money to get new scooters.

They had old, small Razors that were second hand and they decided they wanted to get bigger scooters that fit them more, were good for stunts etc.

We have a great local bike shop we support and love but they don't sell scooters (we are in Australia btw).

So we went to the 99bikes franchise figuring it would be better than basement bargains at Kmart.

At the shop there were little kid scooters (got a globber for my 4yo girl) and then other ones - all stunt scooters, not road.

The Raven scooters were what my 8yo was interested in (he wants a t-style bar) and two models. The small ones said 4-8 on the box while the bger one said 6+. I asked if it was ok for his age and the guy helping said that all the stunt scooters they had were fine for use for all ages and teens and adults use those scooters and sizes too. I know with BMX bikes, unlike city bikes, they are often small and you can see kids or adults on similar size bikes so I figured maybe it was like that

He unboxed it and kiddo like the size and feel and so we got it. He is 128cm tall.

He got the Raven RV2

Now my 10yo is big for his age - tall and lanky with massive feet and hands and the size of a 12yo (160cm)..

He felt the deck was a bit small and shop guy said the other brand was a bit bigger and pulled down an an Envy One S3. Again, I queries the shop gut about size and if it was an on size for now and the next year or 2 and he assured me that it was for all ages.

Now my 10yo tried the scooter and rode it up and down the shop while I paid for it. So this one is on me (well, him).

But as soon as we got home and he rode down the driveway a couple times he said it felt a bit too short. (It's about 80cm talk from ground to handle bars).

So I looked at the shop website online and saw it said "The Envy One S3 Scooter is designed for young riders aged 5 to 8".

And then did what I should have from the beginning and googled about height of scooters and what height it should be. For him (below bellybutton that's about 90cm)

To be fair I had tried to look up sizes prior but online it rarely said the assembled height of the scooter (just handle bars).

To make matters worse I can't return it because it got a scratch in the 5 minutes we had it.

Now the Raven my 8yo loves - we bought it yesterday and he rode it today for several hours has lost grip in the middle already.

Now the 8yo is an absolute speed fiend and adrenaline junkie who loves to stunt. Full disclosure he is hard on everything - he wears through his shoes within 2 months. (Literally, holes in the soles and toes). He scooted for probably 2 hours yesterday and another 3 today and bunny hopped and jumped it all over the place.

But still... ???

So now I have two heartbroken boys who have had their scooters one day and are disappointed.

I'm normally so careful about doing my diligence but I feel I really stuffed this one up.

Are they just bad brands? Is my 8yo just reaaaaallly rough.

I checked their razor scooters which are years old (but don't get much use and the grip has worn off less on than the 1 day old one!!!)

Stupid idea turned reality.. almost.

So it all started when I was riding my razor a5 air down a steep hill, and I got the idea. What if this scooter had a disc brake? The stock fender braking setup barely does anything in that situation. So here it is so far.. A custom wheel that supports Xiaomi m365 tires, and now the 110mm rotor/ the caliper from it aswell. Just need to get a tire and design a way to mount the caliper and it’s almost done. (Just a fun project that I started to fulfill my dreams or whatever)

Newbie recommandation

Hi everyone

I'm totally new to the kickscooter world and I only recently realized how useful they could be when I saw on google maps it can shorten my usual 25–30 minute walk from class to 7–8 minutes ride

I've never ridden a kick scooter before (I don't even know how to ride a bike)but I'm willing to learn

So I'm looking for recommendations for my first scooter : I'd mainly use it for about 1–2 miles per day around Athens, Ohio (Most of the roads are paved but the area is a little hilly)

Some info:

  • Height: 5'6" (168 cm)
  • Weight: 130 lbs (59 kg)
  • Budget: around $100

What would you recommend for someone in my situation?

TIA

Micro scooter for 7 year old

Hello, my son will be 7 soon. I am looking to get a Micro scooter and can’t decide which will be better for him. He’s quite tall for his age and quite strong.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Micro Sprite or Micro Sprite Suspension, or Micro Speed. He hasn’t ridden a scooter since his micro mini a few years ago. He’s competent on a bike.

Micro Sprite seems like a great first two-wheeled scooter, Micro Sprite Suspension has slightly bigger wheels and the handlebar starting height is higher. Micro Speed seems good for longevity but possibly too heavy for a 7 year old’s first scooter?

It will be used for scooting to school and the park mostly, around 10-20 minutes.

Any advice appreciated - thanks!

Does it get easier / any tips?

Hello! My kick scooter arrived today. I bought it specifically to ‘commute’ to a running track which is 1.2 miles / 25 minute walk each way - I enjoy the walk and it’s a good warm-up, etc but I don’t have 50 minutes just for the journey so hoping the kick scooter can help me do the journey in ten minutes each way.

Anyway, I haven’t ridden a kick scooter for over twenty years and it is hard! I don’t remember it being hard at all as a kid! I was also very surprised by how fast it goes. I did a bit of practice today and I am hopeful my riding will get better with time so I will take it out for practice too but I wondered if anyone had any tips that go beyond ‘just keep practicing’.

I will mostly ride on the pavement (I am in London) and will be a very considerate rider, but the issue is that none of the pavements are even, a few of them are narrow, it’s a mix of uphill/downhill and all quite busy - so not really a good route to practice but the route I ultimately would like to do. I am also conscious of the need to alternate which leg I push with.

Sorry for the long-ish post and any tips will be graciously received. Thank you!

What a lovely evening for a scoot...

After spending the late afternoon/early evening giving my Swifty Zero a clean/polish as well as some new tyres; break pads and inner tubes (I've somehow managed to have two fail in as many weeks due to the near endless heat in the UK (on different scooters)), I managed to get a recreational scoot in during golden hour.

It's absolutely marvellous to spend some time and get a few kilometres in as the day cools!

To Xootr owners: Front wheel spining way less than rear. How to fix?

Hello community. I have Xootr MG with a front wheel that spins definitely way less than the rear one. Any way to fix this issue?

It's my understanding wheels on these scooters do not require maintenance? Kind of lost here.

Kick scooter + a day of work

Hopefully this video fits the subreddit. On my channel I make odd stuff, this was a video from last week. I'll have a video posted in a couple days here in regards to my newest build. Shooting for under 10 lb, ability to fit it in a backpack and without the use of a welder. Should be pretty fun!

Oxelo 5XL/7XL folding system broken

Good morning, fellow riders! I have a 5XL with a front shock absorber from the 7XL…
The quick-release lever pin broke, and here in Brazil, Decathlon doesn’t provide replacement parts for the more complex parts of its scooters. They sell the scooters but don’t offer support for maintenance! Do you guys have any suggestions on how to save my scooter? I’ve had it since 2016, and it’s been through a lot.

Razor A6 or Decathlon Oxelo Town 7 XL for speed and smoother ride on sidewalks?

https://preview.redd.it/yr6m7sn9egih1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=84748c1780fd770542ba5d7b2118244b4ab49c77

Hello community, appreciate your expertise on this subject!

I currently own a Xooter MG I got ultra cheap, it's been fun to ride around, it's fast and glide nice on smooth surface. But it's a completely pain riding it on the sidewalk..many cutouts, broken and uneven curb ramps and pavement transitions.

Wondering which of them above (Razor A6 or Oxelo 7XL) will give me more speed, smother glide and better transitions. I'm inclined to the Oxelo because of the hand brake, I did a downhill route on sidewalk of 6.5km and having double brake was really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Suggest/Recommend or Share your experience

"TVS Jupiter 113, Suzuki Access 125, or Honda Activa 110?

I need a good scooter for strict city commuting and speeds not exceeding 65 kmph. My main priorities are comfort and fuel efficiency in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and I do not want to spend excessive time in service centers or don't want to visit the service centers repeatedly or arguing with mechanics over and over.

If you are recommending the TVS Jupiter 113, what was and is your experience with faulty fuel readings and sensor problems, given that the Jupiter is covered in a blanket of electronics? Alternatively, if you suggest the Suzuki Access 125, how is the comfort level regarding its stiffer suspension setup?

and the Activa, it is not a big deal since we already know how robust it is. I am looking for a change, but if all else fails, I will just settle for an Activa."
