It was a bike? Lol. Not done yet

I couldn't find any good, DIY kick scooter tutorials on YouTube so I decided to make one. Had a couple free hours this morning. Here's the progress so far. 12 inch kids bikes are very good for these little weird projects

It rides perfectly fine

I can't believe so many people were thinking that it would be un rideable. It does perfectly fine for a 50lb cruiser ๐Ÿคฃ

Hope this fits here?

I build t buckets and roadsters from scratch. Bodies included. But, not wanting to take on such a big project again, I figured this would be a fun hot rod inspired bicycle.

On Monday it started out as a typical Cruiser bike. Usually I like to build my own frames from complete scratch, but this one here, I just widened the rear and did some metal work to fit the car tire in the back. Made a jack shaft for the chain. And painted it a super heavy metal flake red. I was kind of going after the style of an EJ Potter motorcycle. Hopefully this build does good on my YouTube channel. I think it turned out pretty cool for 5 evenings of work and under $200 invested. Would you guys ride this thing?

It's kinda DiWHY, right? I mean, a car tire on a bike is not very practical, besides the improbable chance of a flat tire and it looks cool haha

It's 99% done!! Made in 5 evenings, under $200 bucks.

I'm building this EJ Potter inspired bicycle for my YouTube channel. I still need to build a coaster brake mount but otherwise, I believe it's done.

This is an automotive wheel and Tire in the back. Doesn't weigh too much. Feels about like a regular cruiser with about 25 lb strapped to it. Haven't had much of a chance to write it yet, only a few circles in my driveway. But let me know what you guys think of it! The metal flake is insane. The camera doesn't quite pick it up as good as it does in person unfortunately but hey, it's looking good, maybe?!

Holy metal flake batman

Sorry for the dusty hot rod. But here's how I get massive metal flake paint jobs on both cars and bicycles.

The hot rod is home built and started with a fence post. The metal body is hand fabricated by yours truly. Pretty much all the metal came out of a gutter manufacturing businesses dumpster next door to me. It's been reliable for 7 years, 12 lb of boost on a stock ka24 engine. Approximately 250 horsepower and 800 lb with me in it. The hot rod is wicked fast.

Now the bike, you may have seen it on a previous post. It has a car tire in the back now. But here's the red metal flake paint job I'm doing for it. Hope this shows you guys a cool trick to get some massive metal flake..

When the paint is good and dry, it will need to be sanded with 1500 and polished for any little metal flakes that are still poking up. But this paint seems to last without fading. At least it did for my hot rod so far, 7 years of daily usage up until recently.

It's starting to look like a bike again

Hopefully this video does good on my channel. The thing is going to be wicked awesome when done. Hoping to paint it Friday, ride it Saturday

I think y'all may dig this

Today is just day one. The video on my YouTube channel covers just the back wheel in the video, along with the "plans". But I build stuff pretty quick, so stay tuned and see the final product ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

This time, I show a riding clip ๐Ÿ˜‚

3.5 evenings of work (15 to 20 ish hours). About 40 bucks. Something fun.

Introducing the "Citi". Version 2.

Keep your hands dirty, build what makes you happy.

If you're interested - builds of a few bicycles from scratch and some restoration work is on my YouTube channel: Rodsoverbricks. Either way, Thanks for watching!

It's pretty much done. Version 2 of the "Citi" bike

Most of it was made from exhaust tubing again. Did this one in about three and a half evenings. About 20 hours into this thing. The paint isn't fully dried yet, but tomorrow it'll be getting dusted off and going for a ride. Pardon the battery holding the bike up, I forgot to kickstand at my shop

6 hours in. She's ready for bondo/paint

Here's the main portion of version 2 of this frame style. 20". 1x7. Cables will be hidden in the frame.

2.25 stainless exhaust tubing.

Not too bad. Now it's time for the body filler, paint and final assembly.

The "rack" isn't complete. There will be four 1"x6.5" bars that need to be bolted to the rack. They rotate 90 degrees to parallel the rack so it can telescope inwards. When the rack is out, rotate them perpendicular and you've got a usable rack. Albeit - they didn't have the 50lb rated center mount drawer slides, so this one is a 25lb. Not much. But enough for a 6 pack and a pizza.

Exhaust Pipe and kids bicycle=

I made this fun little bike in 3 evenings. I tried making it look early 2000s futuristic (bicentennial man/artificial intelligence movies were the inspiration)

This was made with no drawings or design. Just a welder, a cut-off grinder and some basic hand tools. No cad, no 3D printing etc. Hopefully you guys enjoy my little rendition here. Building version 2 soon. I build funky little bicycles and other projects for my YouTube channel, but not a lot of people seem to like this one. So I figured I would share it on here ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Version 2. Taking shape.

I've only got about an hour into it today, I did not have much time. But I think it's starting to look quite interesting. Even if it does look like a kryptonite Lock that grew wheels ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜….

The hard part is going to be manufacturing the slide out cargo rack. But I've got some ideas. I refuse to use 3D printing, so most everything's going to be hand carved if I need plastic pieces and it'll be hand machined if it's metal lol. I definitely cut my nose to spite my face. Anyways, here she is with no plans, no drawings no ideas other than the sketch that I had AI recreate.

Exhaust pipe turned Futuristic Bicycle

I made this in 3 evenings for about 30 bucks. The gear inches need to be increased, but otherwise, what a fun, quick build! I hope the video is entertaining for my YouTube channel. But we'll see. I try to keep the tooling as basic as possible.

Sawzall

Angle grinder

Welder.

No computer

No jigs

Just a plumb bob, tape measure and hand tools otherwise lol.

My inspiration was early 2000s futuristic. Picture the bicentennial Man and artificial intelligence movies.

All done. Rides great! $30, 3 day build

Tuned out to be a good video for my YouTube channel. Well, I hope. Haha. Hope y'all enjoy! 3 power tools were used. No cad. No computer. Nada. Buy garbage and build something fun!

u/rodsoverbricks โ€” 18 days ago

9 hours of work. And about $30 supplies. Here she is

(aside from chain and pedals).

This was made using an old mig welder, an angle grinder, and that's about it. No special tools. No milling machines, no CNC machines and completely built with zero designs to start with. I drew a stick figure sketch, gemini made it look real, I printed it out of metal lmao.

Also, why is my text bigger than usual on here? I just skipped a line and the font got to regular size as seen in this sentence. What happened? ๐Ÿค”

Here's after about two evenings of work

My original post got downvoted like crazy- making this quite discouraging to post here. But, I figured for the ones that were actually decent humans- here's the product.

It's not perfect by any means, but I wanted to at least build one as a prototype and see how well I like the design. See what needs to be changed etc. Then I will build a much nicer one. My theme is early 2000s futuristic. Picture bicentennial man, artificial intelligence, those kind of movies. But with the objective to make a bike like a modern araya micro hurry. Here's my "Citi".

Also to whoever said making a bicycle frame is something hard to do, it's definitely not. Granted, I have been building car parts for 20 years and desert race stuff (welding on '065 steel is quite difficult for me though)

I don't design things before I make them. The AI generated picture was strictly to show you guys what's in my head. Hopefully you guys enjoy!

The area in the middle between the two blue stripes and the word "Citi" is in 400 grit brushed stainless steel below the paint. It is finished in a satin aluminum color.

An update on the bike

I'm about 2.5 hours in. Everything's looking pretty darn good! I know most of you didn't like the design, but as a bicycle community, I think it'll be appreciated by some.

What's everyone's opinion?

Every now and then, I make a full custom bicycle for my YouTube channel. A commenter on one of my videos had made me aware of the Araya Micro Hurry. As seen in red in the first photo. I'm designing my version of it. I've got plenty of 065 wall, stainless, 2.25 in diameter tubing. So I'm thinking about making a bicycle this shape. I'm using 12.5 inch tires. It'll be slightly taller than a BMX. Frame size approximately 16" from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat post tube.

After going through multiple designs, here's the two I'm happy with. Which seat stays do you think looks best?

Time to ride after 15 years. Flatland. Custom BMX from scraps

Here's a flatland bike I made mostly from scratch and scraps.

Made a custom frame (hard to explain, but it started life as a Kent. The curved down tube is from a tag along bike. The top tube is some raw steel I had. The seat stays are from a huffy mountain bike. The chain stays and bottom bracket and seat post tube are from Kent. The frame weighed in at under 4.5 lb.

I did custom forks, custom bars etc

Yes, it's threaded. I wanted to keep it old-school ish. V brakes in the front. American bottom bracket converted to square taper. I don't know how much it weighs yet, but she's light. I'm assuming she's under 28 lb or so.

It was spray painted and then polished with a rag and some turtle Wax. Turned out good!

I did this build for my YouTube channel, I haven't ridden flatland really in about 15 years. So here's to a new start!

If you are curious about this build, feel free to watch it on my YouTube channel. I'm not very funny and the production quality is equal to that of a Yugo. But I have fun lol
