The longer I fish the more rods magically appear for me to bring along lol

I am currently a software engineer 2 with 5 years working for the same company from intern to now this level. The job was located in my college town and since I started the job during covid I have been remote the whole time and since then moved back to my and my partners home city (big upgrade in life quality over college town). The company was great until new ownership has taken over. We had layoffs last year and were assured it wouldn’t happen again only to be issued an rto mandate this last spring. I have been applying around both locally and remotely with no real activity. I have had one screening but was not asked to do an interview. I have this job until next August when I will be expected back at a desk or else I will be forced to resign from my role.

I have no real interest in uprooting my life and moving back to a town where I was at a very low point in life. My partners career is also to be considered as it revolves around clients and she has built up her clientele here. I am starting to feel very discouraged with how little activity I have received from my applications plus this sub does not seem too positive on the market. Do I need to transition to something else? I have been a server and landscaper so if all else fails I can just fall back on labor jobs but I am making pretty good money and it would be hard to get by without my salary.

I don’t have a spinning rig, instead a bfs rig and new metanium I can cast light stuff with is this a mistake? I was hoping it would be mostly jerkbaits and topwaters
