Lil help

Was out on my local creek today targeting smallmouth, I was getting a good bit of chases/ follows from some good sized fish, but no takes. What am I doing wrong? Had senkos, flukes, and craws on weightless Texas rig

Swollen Fox River (IL) Smallie — 18”/3.5#

An Independence Day tub on the Fox River was sitting in a pool near rip-rap and whapped the Rebel Craw just after sunrise this morning on a northern stretch in Aurora, IL. Guessing 3 feet of water 3-5 yards off the bank, tucked in a nook. Total ambush. Recent storms really jacked the river level, which gets the bigger ones out to play. Stay safe in and outta the water 🎣 🇺🇸

Susquehanna River

I have been using all of the usual soft plastics baits. I started throwing a swimsenko for the first time this season. I really like it because you get a better casting radius versus a senko.

Algae Strategy?

So the rivers I fish tend to get heavy algae growth periodically during the year, at least until a big rain comes along and high muddy water pushes it out.

I prefer dragging or hopping baits on the bottom, stuff like Ned rigs, paddle tails, bitsy big jigs, etc... but with heavy algae growth these are not practical baits and I've had trouble finding a good alternative.

What are you guys using when you have to deal with these conditions?

I'll drift weightless senkos and flukes occasionally as well, but those types of baits aren't usually my first choice.

First Good Susquehanna Smallie

Borrowed a kayak and found a cool spot on the river. I’ve found a lot of good fish in the creeks but the river has a lot more area to cover.

PB ON A FLY ROD. 22 in. Upper-Middle James River.

White popping bug. #6 rod 9’. Amongst the many unique characteristics of smallmouth bass/river fishing, in my opinion in terms of the species, is the fact that the golden rule of “You need a larger lure for larger fish.” Doesn’t quite apply in the same manner as others. You can catch a 4 inch small mouth on those or a trophy.

Just “discovered” hellgrammites. Hell yeah

Didn’t realize they hatch all summer so there’s no “match the hatch” monkey business. Also didn’t realize you can fish them suspended in the water and not strictly bottom bouncing. Perfect for rocky creeks.

Was having a slow night at my local spot and decided to throw one on a circle hook just to see what happened. Highly recommend

Was out all day today but these were the best two.

Had a really far wade with a buddy. Spend about 8 hours on the river. Didn't produce as well as I was hoping but still a ton of fun. Caught the biggest on a pomadour jr. First time using that lure and it was surprisingly fun to fish.

Ohio river tank!

Days like today, catching this 21” beast is what keeps me coming back year after year!

Upper Potomac smallies

Pulled 3 out yesterday from the kayak. The day started slow but heated up around some slackwater under some shade. Here's 2, around 13 inches each.
