Anyone else grow up being the only Asian student/person in their schools/community? What was your experience like?

I grew up as the only Asian student at school and in my community up until I moved to a large city for college. While I had wonderful friends growing up… culturally? It was still an isolating experience. Just wondering what other people with similar experiences went through.

Fellow INFJs/introverts, what are some small ways people disrespect you?

I wouldn’t label myself as quiet, but definitely an introvert or someone who can be shy/timid in new environments… and something I can’t help but notice are the small ways people disrespect me under the assumption that I won’t retaliate or just generally feel more comfortable with testing my boundaries.

For example, I recently went to a work conference and was sitting at the cafeteria at my own table (that could seat two people). Someone had left trash on the table next to me. It wasn’t mine, but a peer came with another colleague to sit at the table next to me. Instead of throwing away the trash that was there, they picked it up and placed it on my table. Keep in mind, this happened as I was actively sitting there, watching them get seated and settled. I was definitely a bit upset about that.

I think they got the message when I asked them “uh… is that yours?” and proceeded to remove the trash off my table.

I have a crush on a guy that I met under professional circumstances. Should I just force myself to get over this crush? He might be gay or bi? Maybe I just need to vent?

As the title explains, I have developed a recent crush on a guy. We met under professional circumstances, as he is a student mentor to me and interviewed me for a graduate program. We also connected outside of the interview space since he willingly gave me his contact information. I definitely don’t believe this was for anything outside of him assuming a mentor role (I’m actually older by a year, but he has more professional experience), since he told me I could always reach out to him if I ever needed help. As an FYI, I’m a bi woman and have never developed a crush on anyone I met under professional circumstances before. However, I couldn’t help but find him cute in an adorable/soft, nerdy way. I have always liked gentler men, as well as those who are heavily tattooed and alternative. He just so happens to encompass a mix of that. Just think of “Stick” from Dead Poets Society.

Maybe I just need to rant since I haven’t been able to tell anyone about my gushing crush on him… but he’s intelligent, cares about giving back to his community (he was part of a cultural interest fraternity in undergrad and enjoys mentoring other students), has piercings/gauges/wears accessories like rings, likes board games/manga/trading cards/anime/Pokemon?, soccer/sports/skateboarding/photography, you get the gist. He presents in a traditionally masculine way, just jeans and regular button downs/flannels/hoodies, with chelsea boots or sneakers. To answer how I know all of this… we talked a bit about his interests in the interview and after we connected, I also took a look at his feed. While I was looking, I happened to find some tagged photos by his friends. One was from a female friend squeezing his cheeks and cuddling him while he had his arms wrapped around her. She captioned the photo something along the lines of him being her “bff” (no specifics of sexuality, as I know a lot of women tend to throw around the term “gay bff”). I also saw tagged photos of men kissing him on the cheek. Whether those were male friends or a partner, I’m not sure. There was one photo with just one guy kissing him on the cheek and another photo with two men kissing him on either cheek, with him as the receiver in the middle. Some tagged photos of him with his frat have a completely different vibe, like a stereotypical macho feeling with “bros”, whereas the photos with friends feel a bit… for lack of better word, flamboyant? He has never publicly posted anything confirming romantic interest either way.

At the end of the day, I know that clothing style, voice, etc. can never confirm someone’s sexuality. I just thought that if I at least could clarify some signals, maybe I could work toward getting over this crush if I knew women were not to his romantic liking. I guess on top of not knowing whether or not he could be interested in women, there is also the professional barrier between us and the looming fact that he is moving to a different city. Maybe I’m just a lover girl and love to be hopeful, but is this just completely hopeless in all aspects?

AS AN FYI, I have NOT messaged him separately about ANY OF THIS. The only thing I did was send him a thank you letter for the interview through the appropriate channels like email, but kept it radio silent on other platforms.

UCLA Riordan MBA Fellows Program decisions?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone received a final decision from UCLA about the Riordan MBA Fellows Program?

I applied for the last round, so it was late in the game. Since it’s almost September, I was wondering if anyone heard back?

Strange/sudden VERY painful cramping episode while on period? Should I go to my OBGYN and could this point to larger issues?

Hi, I’m 26, currently on DAY 4 of my period (yesterday was DAY 3) and last night I had a horrible episode of pain, with what I can only assume was uterine cramping. I’m still not sure. I had just woken up from a nap after work and was debating what to eat, when suddenly I started to experience bad heartburn and this sudden and intense pain in my lower abdomen paired with a painful pulling/tugging feeling at my vaginal area. I took two Tums, which I thought had helped, but honestly not really. The pain in my lower abdomen was increasing and I was becoming more and more uncomfortable. I began sweating, it was difficult breathing and also hard for me to walk. This happened right when my Postmates order was arriving, so I had to waddle to the front door to receive my order while gritting down the pain. I had ordered a simple container of broth to drink, as I thought that maybe I had issues from not eating enough that day due to multiple meetings at work and that the hot broth would help any uterine related cramping. Keep in mind, I had been already actively applying heat to the area all this time without any relief. For the next half hour, I took sips of the hot broth for comfort. I felt bloated and a bit gassy and couldn’t lay down and had to sit upright. I eventually took a Tylenol and that helped with the cramping/pain and as it subsided, I naturally took a quick nap while sitting upright in bed. I woke up around 2 hours later and the pain had subsided significantly. I felt comfortable enough where I could breathe normally, but not comfortable enough where I was back to baseline. Upon waking, I almost immediately became very gassy, felt a bubbly sensation and had the runs… which was mostly watery. Sorry, TMI. I was wearing a pad and could not see any further bleeding from this episode. Any bleeding I had was earlier that day when I felt normal, as usual. It felt like such a relief to the overall pain after the runs, but I still felt uncomfortable… as if there was some kind of residual soreness in my public area. I felt that tenderness all night until I was able to fall asleep, again in an upright position in bed (yes, all night long). I just woke up half an hour ago and now the pain is a 1-2/10, however, if I become too active and try to stand up straight or lay down, I feel a strain on my lower abdomen again that also lightly travels to my upper stomach area (almost like a heartburn sensation) and the pain increases. The pain only increases when I’m disturbing it by stretching out/standing up straight… or if I lightly push on my pubic area, I can feel some tenderness and soreness.

***ALSO TO CLARIFY, I keep saying lower abdomen, but what I really mean is around that pubic area is where I felt the pain the entire time.

It is the next day and I don’t know if I should call off from work and see my OBGYN if possible?

I have a history of incredibly painful periods. I usually will have the whole shebang: headaches, bloat, gas, nausea, breast tenderness, back pain, severe cramping that it interferes with my life… I used to pray that I would get my period on a weekend so that I had the opportunity to rest and would have to hold down the feeling of vomiting through sheer willpower. I’m currently on spironolactone for hormonal, cystic acne and it has been a blessing with managing all of systems. I have been on spironolactone for 2 years, so I may have forgotten what my baseline period pain has been like since it typically feels like nothing now. However, I notice that when my dosage recommended by my Derm is lowered, I still get hormonal cystic acne and I can physically feel the difference in pain/my experience during menstruation. It usually will feel like how I experienced it prior to starting the medication… but I have never experienced whatever happened last night. From my last annual exam, my OBGYN said it doesn’t appear I have any issues based on the tests we did, so I’m not sure if this history could indicate something more serious about my health? I can’t explain it but I truly feel like something is WRONG, so I don’t know why nothing was found. I need to know if anyone else has ever experienced an episode like this…

Why did my Hinge account randomly disappear?

I randomly decided to open Hinge and found that I was logged out. When I tried to log back in using the same phone number, I first received a loading error… but after another attempt I was then was able to receive a new verification code and “log in”…. Except, now it’s asking me to create a new account w/ the same phone number and verification code that signed me in? Yikes, I mean I had wanted to attempt meeting someone organically IRL and perhaps this is the push to do so… but, does this mean I have been banned from the platform? I never received any message or pop up message on the app saying this was the case.

I guess I’d like to not have to use the app again, but on the off chance that meeting people IRL doesn’t work out (crossing my fingers this won’t be the case), I’m hoping they didn’t permanently ban me? Help?

NOTE: Also, I keep getting emails from Match.com about matches and likes? I have NEVER made a Match account and if someone is genuinely using my email, I’m not sure if it also prompted other apps to have issues?
