2023/2024 pension statements

Has anyone had theirs yet? I rang in the past and simply been told unacceptable answers such as it’s not available and there is no timescale on when it will be.

We are long past the statutory limits they claim to work towards. Has anyone been successful in forcing them to provide the information? Is there anyway to escalate things? I really don’t want to go through another phone call with them without being armed with the recourse to get them to pull their fingers out and avoid them fobbing me off. I care less these days about the whole debacle, but I like to have all my numbers present and correct.

Centre court tickets for me and my wife

First time on CC planned on Monday. I got 2 CC tickets in the LTA ballot for me and my wife in my account. Both tickets are in my name. What does she need to do to get in? Does she need to download the app on her own phone and I transfer them to her? Then do we both bring photo ID?
Excited and nervous I don’t mess this up!

Freeview TV on Samsung Frame

Currently have a sky q box connected to my Frame so I have more channels than I know what to do with. With skys price hikes I’m planning to stop my subscription. I will be able to access the streaming services through the TV app ms of course, but I always like to flick between terrestrial channels. Is there a TV tuner in the one connect box? Is it as simple as just running an aerial coaxial cable into the ox and then there are menu options to tune? I can’t see the video demonstrating this.
Thanks.

Visiting California

Hi all, long time follower of this sub and gobsmacked at the epidemic of tipping in North America. We are coming over for a long-planned family trip to California in two weeks. San Diego, then Thousand Oaks, up to Monterey, across to Yosemite and then finally San Francisco. Planning on self-catering and eating out about 50/50 split to help manage costs. My excitement is tempered by my worries about being fleeced as an obviously British tourist.

I understand the minimum wages in California are pretty good but fully expect the tip prompts on top. So I have some questions which I would be grateful for any advice.

Is there a resource which tells you which restaurants are non-tipping in these locations?

How do I avoid the seemingly mandatory 20% ‘service charge from being added, and what are the strategies to contest them amicably?

Just to be clear I will tip at sit down restaurants *if* we feel it’s warranted, just as I do in the UK and elsewhere we have visited in Europe and Asia.

Can I expect to be exploited as an obvious tourist. I fully expect the small talk chit chat from the servers which I know will be buttering me up for a fat tip?

I’ve heard friends comment that the excessive tipping culture has spoiled their holiday, and am keen to try and avoid this. This has been a dream holiday planned for a very long time.

Thanks you for your advice.

Study leave

After 13 years as a consultant it has dawned on me that I chronically underutilise my allowance of 30 days per 3 year cycle. I added up 79 days of unclaimed study days in this time! My fault of course.

Keen to not continue this trend and now always take my allowance. Trouble is it’s not always possible or cost effective to go on courses and events, so is it acceptable/doable to simply take a weeks study leave for self-directed CPD/reading etc and utilise my full allowance this way. Another way is to find online courses and modules etc, but what about just ‘reading’?

For some reason I am included on their website for patients to provide reviews. I do not promote this website to any of my nhs or private patients. I have seen close to a thousand different patients in my private practice alone over the last 8 years and never asked for a review. For some reason one of my private patients has written a long vitriolic screed about her episode of care which greatly misrepresents my overall practice. I have reported the review. The website has no contact phone number and my requests to be removed entirely from their list of consultants have been rejected. Is this not some breach of GDPR or my own consent? Has anyone been able to successfully be removed?
