Masai Mara + Seychelles

Hi everyone! My husband and I are heading on our first African adventure this October and I’d love some advice from anyone who has done a similar trip! We’ll be flying into Nairobi, heading to the Maasai Mara for safari, then returning to Nairobi before flying on to the Seychelles for some beach time.

A few questions for those who have traveled this route:
Nairobi Airport: What has your experience been flying internationally through Nairobi (NBO)? Is it relatively easy to navigate? Anything we should be prepared for with immigration, security, connections, or luggage?
Jewelry on safari: I was thinking of bringing inexpensive/cheap jewelry instead of my nicer pieces. Is that a good idea, or would you recommend leaving jewelry behind altogether?
Safari luggage: Any packing tips or things you were really glad you brought? Anything you packed but never used?

Bugs: How bad are mosquitoes in the Maasai Mara in October? Any particular repellent or clothing you recommend?
Tipping: This is one I’m especially curious about! Who did you tip throughout the trip - safari guide, driver, camp staff, porters, airport transfer drivers, hotel staff, restaurants, etc.—and how much did you typically tip each person/per day?
USD vs. local currency: For tipping in Kenya, is it better to bring US dollars or Kenyan shillings? And in the Seychelles, did you tip in USD, euros, or Seychellois rupees?
Kenya → Seychelles: Has anyone flown from Nairobi to the Seychelles? How was the airport/departure process and flight?
Seychelles: Anything you wish you had known before going, especially after coming straight from safari?
First safari: Any general tips for a first-time safari that you wish someone had told you beforehand?

Karen Blixen Itinerary

Hello, I recently booked a 3 day safari through Karen Blixen camp. They told us what is included like a night game drive, pickup from hotel to Wilson airport, etc. however we haven’t gotten an actual itinerary noting when pick up will be from the hotel. We did receive our flight tickets to Masai Mara. I’m just worried they will forget to pick us up from the hotel and we’ll miss our flight. Has anyone else booked through Karen Blixen? Do they provide an itinerary closer to the time and let you know when they’ll pick you up? Thanks!

$299 certificate

Hello, we have been to le blanc cancun twice. The first time we were offered the $299 certificates of which we took 2. The second time we cane they tried to sell us the presentation however since we were only doing a short trip we decided not to take it. Upon check out we were not offered anymore $299 certificates like we were on our previous stay. Do they only offer this the first time you stay, or is it because we declined the presentation? We still have one left but would like to purchase another couple on the next stay if possible. Just not sure if they will be offered to us again or if we should ask. TIA

LA area recs & Dr. Grewel 1 incision reviews

Hi All, I'm finally looking into chin lipo in the LA area. I have a few surgeons on my list, including Dr. Patel, Dr. Lahar and Dr. Grewel at Rockstar Beauty. Dr. Grewel seems to be the most fairly priced however he only does 1 incision rather than 3. My biggest worry is that I won't have that snatched jawline I'm hoping for. Does anyone have any reviews with him and also are there any other chin lipo surgeon recommendations? TIA

Upgrading using avios & waitlisted

Hi! I booked a return LAX-DUB saver flight and was hoping to upgrade to business class once i call them. I did this before and there was no issue. Instead, they said they can add me to a waitlist which we did. overall he mentioned it would cost 180k avios points for 2 people which we have on our account. I see other people get responses within 3-5 days if they have been upgrading. Is this the same when being waitlisted? Should I also email them and request the upgrade or is calling sufficient? I'm just not sure if the 3-5 day responses also apply to people being waitlisted? I see there are plenty of seats still avaialble and my flight isn't until September. Also, when I go to manage my booking I'm no longer able to access it so I'm hoping this is good news. Looking for any advice, if the caller having me waitlisted is just as good as me emailing the aerclub and asking for an upgrade or if this is overkill. Thanks!
