Advice! Tight layover

Hi all! I stupidly booked myself a united flight to Dublin and a separate ticket aer Lingus flight to Edinburgh with a layover of 2 hours (I did my math wrong/thought I had more time). I will have a checked bag. Is this even feasible?
What options do I have for re-booking with basic economy flight? If I miss my flight, what happens?

Baggage reclaim in Edinburgh Airport took 2 hours

Last night, I landed on a flight from Dublin at 7:44pm and my bag came onto the carousel at 9:32pm

NO ONE was giving updates

NO ONE said anything

I went up to the bloke who told me the delay is because:

Swissport, Ryanair and Aer Lingus have a deal that when a flight lands, passengers are offloaded and then the bags are. The next flight is loaded with baggage and passengers.

Then, WHEN THE FLIGHT TAKES OFF, the bags are delivered.

Because we landed from Dublin and the next flight back was an hour delayed, we spent almost 2 hours waiting for our baggage.

Given that there's nothing to do in the baggage hall, it was a long and uncomfortable wait.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Carry on allowance when booking via BA Rewards

Hi there! I made an Avios booking on the BA website a couple months ago. It was for a short haul Aer Lingus flight just from the UK to Dublin. That trip is coming up now, so I typed it into my Aer Lingus app and it says I have a 10kg carry on that must be checked in, and no checked luggage. I’m not fussed about the checked luggage since I wasn’t planning to use it, but really do want to carry on my carry-on as I half a self-transfer in Dublin to cross the atlantic. The BA confirmation email says to see Aer Lingus’ site for baggage allowance on the carry on heading, and then that I have a 20kg checked allowance next to that. Has anyone had any experience? Thanks!

Moving to Ireland With Rabbit

I'm moving to Ireland from the United States for my postgraduate degree (and hopefully beyond, if all goes well) and I am having a sudden issue getting a flight booked. The last airline I had on deck that allowed rabbits in cabin on transatlantic flights from the USA to the EU suddenly changed their policy the week I was looking at trying to book, so now I am left stranded with no way to move both me and my rabbit safely without asking for an exception to an airline's pet policy.

(For those not familiar with rabbits, they are silent, pretty much odorless, and too fragile to safely fly cargo. I am not very comfortable attempting to fly him this way.)

I am planning to go to my local airport and talk to Aer Lingus, as they are the only direct flight to Ireland from my area (and thus less stressful for both me and bunny), but I am well aware of the no pets in the cabin policy. I just wanted to ask if anyone thought there would be any possibility of an exception, as there are literally no airlines left that will allow him to fly in cabin. He is not a service animal, but he is an ESA--though people abused this system and I am aware there is no longer any kind of legal requirement to allow them on board. Any other suggestions for options besides Aer Lingus are also appreciated.

Thanks very much for any guidance given. This move has become ten times more stressful with this rug pulled out from under me.

Edit: I understand this is not a common situation and that many people don’t do proper research before doing things, but I have everything sorted BUT the flight, hence my post asking about that specific subject. (I do appreciate the concern, though. The housing crisis and housing scams were definitely things I was aware of in advance, and I am lucky to have a trusted contact in the area I’m moving to that would go to viewings for me.) Getting the flight booked has been the thing I had the least advance ability to take care of, as I wasn’t going to book a flight without an acceptance letter from my program. Looking around on daft and downloading forms is free, while booking the flight isn’t, LOL. The paperwork for import of my rabbit is under control, but it needs a flight number (or indication of other method of transport) to be properly filled out…which I obviously don’t have. He sees a USDA certified vet already, and can easily get the health certificate the second I have that flight number. He’s a healthy, happy little guy.

I’m sorry if I worded things poorly or left out necessary details. I try to give out as little personal information as possible on the internet, so I usually keep things brief and vague. I don’t find any pleasure in asking for any sort of exception, and I researched airlines allowing rabbits on several occasions before now—two years ago when I was beginning to think I would have to move sooner than I thought, and one year ago when I decided I was applying to school in Ireland the next enrollment cycle. (This is when I looked at requirements for bringing a rabbit with me into Ireland as well.) It really seemed like everything was handled in that regard, and that when I had an actual acceptance letter I could book my flight with little issue. However, even my plan F was rug pulled with these sudden airline regulation changes in late 2025 into mid 2026. (It is true that I didn’t think things would change so dramatically that quickly, which was perhaps naive.) This is why I’m now hoping to find some solution, and all I can really do is ask around. (And I promise I’m not planning to just show up to the gate the day of demanding a rule bend like a jerk. I would rather the plane hit me. I’m chatting with people now well in advance.)

Thanks for all of the genuine ideas, though. Unfortunately, as with most things, they only allow cats and dogs on the boat and the previously rabbit friendly airlines have suddenly changed their tune (Azores Airlines mentioned by the Redditor that moved their bunny to Belfast was the aforementioned plan F), but I really appreciate the help anyway—more than you know. My rabbit is all I really have, and he’s my family just as much as a cat or dog would be. I’m moving away from the United States permanently, and I wouldn’t leave him behind. We’ll get it sorted somehow…I just wish it was a little less stressful and required less hoping that someone will make an exception. It really stings when you think you’ve planned everything so meticulously and then it falls apart in front of you. The only thing I’ve found that wouldn’t require this sort of asking is a private charter, and that’s DEFINITELY far out of my price range.

(It is crazy that a small animal that really can’t spread many diseases, makes no sound, and does not smell is so hard to transport in cabin…wish I knew what the rationale was. Iberia allows tortoises, fish, and birds of all things…)

Thanks again, and I hope everyone reading is well.

Food menu for flight

We’re flying Aer Lingus from states to Paris in June. Is there someplace I can find what they will be serving on our flights in terms of meals? I know we’ll get dinner, but have two kids and based on some tragic online pictures I’m wondering how much I should pack for them to eat.

I did try searching the forum for answers.

Where do i choose seat selection, as we would like to be seated together, id rather pre reserve than wait.

Also what app do i use to manage or amend booking, check in etc, the regular AerLingus app or AerClub app?

Thanks.

Transatlantic Ryanair

Flying from Shannon to JFK. Live in NY fly home every 4-6 months. A panel broke and they had to take bags off. Long story short they took my bag off and it arrived to my apartment in NY Monday at 11.45 pm when we got into JFK Saturday at 6 pm. Stuff happens but the issue is the captain promised the bags were going to Dublin and would be there that night. Then the ground staff in JFK said the next morning. Then when I called the next morning they said that afternoon. Just constant lies to deflect accountability. My bag was filthy when it arrived as well. Not to mention the food was like something they would eat on the international space station and the flight was 1.5 hours late with the whole fiasco. I then submitted a claim to buy some clothes totalling 80 USD with no reply. I think the whole thing is just poorly managed. Does anyone have any thoughts on it or have a similar experience where you felt like it had a satisfactory resolution?

Booked Wrong Flight

I accidentally booked a flight going from Shannon to Heathrow next month instead of Heathrow to Shannon. I made the mistake this morning and coped it straight away, I immediately rang and left a voice note. I’ve heard nothing back, I’ve tried ringing several times and haven’t got an answer. I’ve tried contacting them on social media and I’m met with AI. The online support chat is also AI and doesn’t nothing to help. I need to speak to an actual human… does anyone know how? Any advice is appreciated.

The enshittification of Aer Lingus continues apace

TLDR: refuses to allow me to buy an upgrade because they didn’t have any meals left and feared reputational damage even though I said I had no problem with it.

I live in New York for a few years now and was just back home in Ireland for a few days. Today I was flying back from Dublin to New York on Aer Lingus. I usually fly Aer Lingus when I come back because they have the flight that lands at 4am in Dublin that means I can be in bed at my mum's house by 5.30 am and sleep right away. I'm a bit tired the first day but by day 2 basically no jetlag, and it can be very rough and last 5 days.

For reasons I won't delve into it's been a somewhat rough visit home. On top of that have to do some work on the plane before the end of the day. American companies you know how they are.

When I got to the airport, I had a feeling the flight wouldn't be superrr busy, so as I was checking in I asked the very nice person at the desk if there were any seats left in business class. I couldn't face a 7 hour flight in a cramped cabin not able to relax or get any rest.

She checked and told me there were 8 empty seats in business class. I asked how much it would cost for an upgrade then. She checked and said it would be €700 and she'd have to call her manager for approval. I thought about it for a moment and eventually told her I'd do it then.

She goes to call the manager, and when she hangs up she comes back over and tells me they couldn't upgrade me as there are no business class meals left.

I was a bit disappointed to hear that and as I was thinking, I realized I didn't really care about the meal I just wanted a bit of comfort and privacy. I said I'd still like to upgrade and I'll just eat my normal meal. I always bring 2 sandwiches on the plane as Aer Lingus food is absolutely shite and tiny portions and I'm always hungry by the end of the flight.

She said oh ok, let me just call my manager again to tell him you still want to upgrade. She calls again and is talking on the phone and starts looking a bit puzzled while. When she's done she comes back over looking a bit apprehensive and confirms that, no they will not upgrade me as there's no meal.

I reiterated that I understood that and it wasn't an issue. And she said said "yes, due to concerns of "reputational damage" they wouldn't upgrade me. I paused probs looking a perplexed and just said "oh ok, that's funny but no worries.".

Reputational damage:? Aer Lingus has progressively enshittified ever since they tried to copy Ryanair. Outside of the lovely staff and the way they say "remove the jacket from it's packet" in the safety demo, it's really a pretty basic experience. The food, the cabins, the movie options. You don't even get a free beer or wine with your meal anymore.

Before landing they used to give you a sandwich cut in triangles AND A SCONE with jam and butter with your tea or coffee. It was lovely.

Now you get a "muffin" which is actually a dry plain sponge cake loaded with chemicals that would survive nuclear annihilation and about 20ccs of concentrated orange juice. After 6 hours on the plane.

Even their business class which I've taken a couple of times is nowhere near most other airlines (don't hate me I never book business class tickets directly but only upgrade occasionally if there's a discount available at the last minute or book way in advance with credit card points I have to due to my American debtworthiness).

Anyways I get checked in, go through security - shout-out to T2 security for being the best damn airport security I've ever experienced! Always a breeze.

I stop by WH Smith for my 2 sandwiches... and two packets of Tayto and two Dairy Milk Turkish - which will be my 8th and 9th Dairy Milk Turkishes in 5 days. Chocolate in America is god awful and palm oil or not Irish is miles better.

Eventually I get on the plane and I swear there's

barely a sinner on it and I have 4 seats to myself and no one around me for 5 row. And yer man just gave me two cokes and two pretzels! So things are on the up (literally).

I don't really have a point but it struck me as bizarre and i have nothing else to do. Well, besides work... which I guess I should do now that I've procrastinated in the form of a Reddit post.

Ah sure look.

Upgrading using avios & waitlisted

Hi! I booked a return LAX-DUB saver flight and was hoping to upgrade to business class once i call them. I did this before and there was no issue. Instead, they said they can add me to a waitlist which we did. overall he mentioned it would cost 180k avios points for 2 people which we have on our account. I see other people get responses within 3-5 days if they have been upgrading. Is this the same when being waitlisted? Should I also email them and request the upgrade or is calling sufficient? I'm just not sure if the 3-5 day responses also apply to people being waitlisted? I see there are plenty of seats still avaialble and my flight isn't until September. Also, when I go to manage my booking I'm no longer able to access it so I'm hoping this is good news. Looking for any advice, if the caller having me waitlisted is just as good as me emailing the aerclub and asking for an upgrade or if this is overkill. Thanks!

Amazing WiFi on my Aer Lingus flight with Starlink

https://preview.redd.it/zbavtv45wb0h1.png?width=1802&format=png&auto=webp&s=3bb40e10e40ae3bda29b87b2b2f7966d7691ce2c

Got my first Starlink flight today with Aer Lingus and it's amazing! I got approximately 150 Mbits/sec on the transatlantic route! There used to be so many dead zones with almost no signal in the middle of the ocean, now it's as good as any domestic flight in the US. and it's free!

Aer Lingus sold us infant friendly seats for $200 extra. We got regular “saver +” seats, were promised a refund in-flight, and now customer service denied and threatened to hang up on me when I asked for a manager. Any advice?

Title pretty much sums up. 7 hour trip so our party of 4 decided to spend extra to ensure we had extra space for our infant.

Arrival trip went great, $200 well spent. Return trip we bought the exact same seats. The flight had 3 infants on board and I’m guessing because we were a party of 4, they put us in regular “saver +” seats and gave infant seats to two other families. I have no idea if they paid extra to ensure the infant friendly seat (we did). My understanding is “saver +” seats are just in the middle 1/3 of the plane instead of the back 1/3. There is no other difference.

Flight staff immediately apologized and politely declined to accommodate us and promised we would be refunded the $200 if we talked to customer service. We didn’t make a fuss. Sometimes things happen.

Now comes the frustration. We were immediately denied the refund stating that regular “saver +” in the middle of the plane are actually BETTER than the bulkhead infant seats we paid for which is obviously laughable. They admitted we were sold an infant friendly seat and admitted we didn’t receive an infant friendly seat.

This is a few quotes from customer service during my 50 minute call.

“If you sell me an infant friendly seat, do you have to give me an infant friendly seat?”
“Of course not, you are a saver customer so any other seat upgrade will not be refunded.”

“Just hang up, you are wasting your time because I’m not going to give you the refund.” After refusing to let me talk to a manager.

“This is your second warning. I am going to hang up on you.” I have no idea what the warning was about, and I never received a first warning. I never made any insults just told the person obviously they couldn’t help me so I’d like to speak with a manager.

Customer service continuously told me that they were talking to managers off the phone, but continued to refuse to let me talk to one because they weren’t available. A bit curious.

TLDR: we spent $200 on an infant friendly seat which we didn’t receive. Flight staff apologized and confirmed we should receive a refund because there was no safety circumstances that prevented us from our seats (2 other infants on board). Customer service denied the refund because our regular seats were in the middle of the plane.
