Victor Davis Hanson: Regarding the midterms, "We haven't heard from the republicans any strategy, and the time is getting close..."

"It seems to me that it doesn't work just to trash the socialists. They should be trashed, but there has to be more than that."

I think he makes some good points, i.e. not smart to just sit back and say, "Well maybe this time it will be different". Not sure his "Contract with America" will work. Not at this juncture anyway.

Suspect arrested for stabbing murder of mother near a jogging trail, reportedly is an illegal alien from El Salvador, who was caught & released into the USA under the Biden administration.

"BREAKING: I'm told by federal source that the suspect arrested in Fairfax County, VA for the stabbing murder of a mother near a jogging trail in Great Falls, VA is a Salvadoran illegal alien who was caught and released at the border by the Biden admin in El Paso, TX in April 2024. Padres' minor league coach detained by ICE at El Paso Airport...

His family says he is here legally.

ICE says he legally migrated from Venezuela in 2014. Was allowed to stay until 2018. He has not had legal status since then, and, according to ICE, "has overstayed his welcome".

"On August 16, 2026, Border Patrol arrested Oswaldo Jose Pirela Dominguez, an illegal alien from Venezuela, at the El Paso International Airport. He entered the country legally on September 10, 2014, and was granted permission by the Obama administration to remain in the country until February 10, 2018. In violation of our nation’s laws, he overstayed his welcome. When approached by law enforcement officers, he was not in possession of legal documentation granting him status in the country. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and will receive due process.

To be clear, work authorization or a pending application do NOT confer legal status in the United States.

Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $2,600 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return."

Best business class seat for couples on Aer Lingus A330-300?

Expect to fly business class on Aer Lingus soon. I'm getting mixed answers as to the best seats for couples.

Some say the center seats, because you can exit without the window passenger having to step over the aisle passenger.

Some say that isn't a big deal, and the seats on the right side are more private, out-of-the-way, and the window passenger gets a lot of privacy. I've read that one, or the other, is easier to talk, and one, or the other, is easier to sleep (overnight flight).

Do you think there's any chance I could get KLM Economy Comfort fees refunded & vouchers reissued with a longer expiration date?

Follow-up to an earlier post.

I booked a one way flight for me and the GF from SAN to AMS to DBV with a tight one hour layover. Importantly, I did this before EES was fully implemented.

The ticket is FLEX and I used 2 vouchers (service-related) worth roughly $550 total, which I think expire in October 2026. I later spent maybe $220 USD to do a minor upgrade to Economy Comfort.

I've been keeping an eye on things, and EES seems like a real mess at Schiphol Airport. I've also noticed a couple of cancellations within the last month or so, and several flights, including yesterday, that may have showed an “on time" arrival, but were nearly 15 minutes late, which would have made it difficult to make the connection, imo. If we miss the connection, we'd be in DBV at midnight, if we're lucky, rather than noon.

Based on these operational concerns and personal risk management, I've decided that this connection is simply too risky and have booked a much longer flight on a competitor, albeit with more doable layovers of 2 to 2.5 hours.

I believe I can cancel a FLEX ticket at any time and get back what I paid for it. In terms of the Economy Comfort fee and the vouchers, not sure what they can or will or won't do.

To be clear, I am not making any demands, claiming EU261 or anything like that. But if they could do something as a courtesy, specifically refunding the Economy Comfort fee, and especially reissuing those vouchers with a later expiration date, that would be amazing.

Our next planned trip is to Singapore in November 2027, so it could be tough to use those vouchers before they expire in October 2026.

Again, I'm not making the change due to finding a "better deal", but rather, due to operational considerations and personal risk management.

People criticize AA a lot, but imo one of the good things about AA is...

The value you get from the AAdvantage award program.

Today, I booked AA from SAN to ORD in first class, then ORD to DUB and DUB to DBV in business class (Aer Lingus - actually the final leg has no dedicated business class, but you can pick any seat) for 57,500 AAdvantage miles, plus $10 in fees.

AA isn't perfect, and at times they're far from perfect, but I can't get this kind of value on any other airline that I know of.

Victor Davis Hanson: Could the Tucker Carlson 3rd party group split the republican vote, ensuring a democrat win in 2028?

I used to like and respect Carlson, but no longer. Not sure what he thinks that he will accomplish with his band of bitter misfits.

Tight SoCal to AMS flight on KLM. What would you do if there's an issue?

We have an upcoming flight from SoCal to AMS and from AMS to DBV. This flight is often on time, and commonly early, but every now & then it is delayed or gets cancelled.

There are at least 2 issues with our itinerary:

  1. Very tight 1 hour layover in AMS. Yes, I understand that it's certainly best not to have such a tight layover, but this could shave 5-6 hours off of the trip if we make it.

  2. If there's any problem with the inbound flight (AMS to SoCal), it's not as if KLM has an extra 787 sitting around that they can substitute.

This is a FLEX ticket, purchased in part with nearly $600 in vouchers that expire October 2026, so glad we could use those, as even with FLEX, they brought the cost down to roughly $375 each. I spent another $110 each to upgrade to Economy Comfort, which was, in part, to put us closer to the front of the plane so we can hopefully deplane fairly quickly.

I'll be monitoring the inbound flight, which will entail waking up once or twice at 3 am or so to make sure it's still on schedule, or early. Right now, the plan is if the inbound is in good shape, go with our scheduled flight. If there's anything more than a 20-30 minute delay on the inbound, pivot to another option (below).

I have a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. Here they are:

Plan A: If all is on schedule, stick with KLM and hustle like crazy to EES/Passport Control. I think we have a decent chance of making this with a short connection line. On the downside, if we miss that connection, we'd probably be in Dubrovnik around midnight, rather than 12 pm, which would suck.

Plan B: If all is not on schedule, call KLM and have them move me to Delta, or another Sky Team partner. If I did this, it would be a morning flight, not an afternoon flight like our flight to AMS.

Plan C: I have a morning award ticket booked on AA that can be cancelled until just before it departs. AA metal to ORD. Aer Lingus from ORD to DUB and the same from DUB to DBV. Adds maybe 5-6 hours to the trip, but hopefully gets us into DBV around 10:45 am. Layovers 2 to 2.5 hours. No EES until we arrive at DBV.

Any thoughts on this? I suppose the main question I have involves Plan B. Let's say the inbound flight from AMS is delayed. Could I get hold of a KLM/Air France agent in the middle of the morning (3 am or so my time) by calling the European number? Could I trust them to rebook to Delta with only a few hours before the morning flight, or is there a chance they screw that up, perhaps it's not correctly ticketed? Is Plan B even worth messing with, or would it be best to pivot to Plan C if there's an issue, since those flights are definitely properly ticketed?

Ghost in the machine? Odd voices in the bedroom gave me the chills.

Not sure that this is paranormal, but it was odd and did give me the chills...

Late last night, I was talking to my Alexa device, and I have one next to the bed. After asking a question and receiving an answer, I heard what I would best describe as a whispering, satanic, otherworldly voice, that seemed to be whispering something in a gravely, low tone, but I have no idea what was being said.

As you can see, I asked Alexa if it was whispering, and it said no. Whatever was said, was not recorded in the log shown.

I don’t know what the heck it was, I’m not even sure that it came from Alexa, although it seemed to be coming from that general direction, but as long as I’m not losing it, I heard something strange.

One-Third of democrats consider themselves to be Democratic Socialists, according to a new poll.

Dovetails with my recent post about the radical changes that the Democratic Socialists want to bring to America and American government.

One person who replied suggested that this was a tiny fringe part of the democratic party. But one-third is not a tiny fringe element at all.

The best way to stop an armed bad guy is by an armed good guy. "Hero armed citizen opened fire on Idaho In-N-Out gunman, tried to stop shooting."

I think that a lot of "liberals" don't understand that criminals largely pay zero attention to gun laws. So when you make it difficult or impossible for good citizens to arm themselves, then the only armed individuals are the criminals.

I am a former police officer and once had a marksman certification. Yet the state of California makes it very difficult for me to carry. The fees are exorbitant. I have to renew every 2 years, and they recently doubled the educational requirement from 8 hours initially and 4 hours at renewal to 16 hours initially and 8 hours at renewal. Of course, that also doubled the cost for this training, and 16 hours is a legit 16 hours, not to mention the other fees.

They're trying to make it hard for good citizens to carry lawfully, which means that we mostly have only criminals armed, with no way for citizens to protect themselves against an armed assailant.

So for all of our "friends on the left", imagine you're sitting down at In-N-Out (or wherever) enjoying a double-double burger, when some criminal shows up and starts firing. Would you prefer?

A. Run like hell, or hide under a table, and simply hope for the best.

B. Call the police. Maybe they'll be there in 10 minutes or so. They can make a staged and coordinated entry, possibly within 20 or 30 minutes.

C. Armed good citizen takes out the bad guy.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider (Auxiliary Bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan). "They are not refugees, no. This an invasion...to destroy Europe culturally and religiously."

Reddit recommended that I post this here. If it's not welcome, feel free to delete, or let me know and I'll delete it.

Nice to know that not every Catholic religious leader is a liberal these days. When did that happen, anyway? They used to be pretty conservative.

The creator of this video, & apparently president Trump, making the case that Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has changed her voting patterns due to threats received after the Dobbs case.

Her rulings were far less conservative after Dobbs, and there are opinions that threats have caused her to moderate her views and rulings.

Is this possible?
