A year of running a tiny side project that only lists paid Godot jobs

Last year I built a small Django site, godothire.com, because I got tired of digging through general job boards for the handful of paid Godot roles buried in them.

The build itself was simple. The actual work turned out to be the boring part: reading every submitted listing by hand and turning away the revshare and "exposure" ones, which is most of what comes in. I didn't expect that to be the real job.

It's still just me running it, still free, still small. If you're curious what a one-person niche job board looks like after a year: https://godothire.com/

Free isometric restaurant kitchen set

Seventh pack done, a restaurant kitchen. I'm giving away a free slice of it: pizza oven, dish sink, stock pots and a few other bits, plus walls and floor so you can build a small kitchen.

It's on the same grid as all my other packs, so you can put it right next to the diner or the cafeteria and nothing needs nudging.

Hope someone builds something fun with it.

Studios: a Godot hiring post does not have to be about an engineer

I run godothire.com, a free board for paid Godot work, and most of what gets submitted is engineering roles. Art, audio, design, production, QA and writing roles all fit the same categories on the board, but studios post them far less often.

I do not think that is because Godot studios only need engineers. It is more likely that when a studio thinks "post the Godot role," the default picture in their head is a programmer, so the artist or writer role on the same project goes out somewhere else, or not at all.

Posting on the board is free either way and takes the same five minutes regardless of category: https://godothire.com/

For studios here: when you needed a non-programmer Godot role filled, where did that posting actually go, and did you find it harder to fill than an engineering one?

Free isometric gym starter: 6 objects + a room set, 64x64, 2:1 grid

I just finished a gym to go with my classroom and science lab packs, and I'm giving away a 6-object slice of it: bleachers, a vaulting box, a ball cart with its balls scattered next to it, a wall-mounted trophy case, a drinking fountain, and one floor tile plus wall pieces in both facings with end caps and a double door. Enough to build a working gym floor.

Everything is a 64x64 transparent PNG on a 2:1 dimetric grid, bottom-anchored to the same row as the floor tile under it, so a sprite never needs a per-object offset.

The interesting bug this pack turned up: a wall fixture's requested height is a request, not a guarantee. On a 2:1 wall a tall fixture's bounding box also grows sideways, so a plausible height on paper can run the art past the top of the wall. I added a guard that shrinks a fixture until it clears the wall, and it worked so well it quietly shrunk a basketball hoop that was supposed to stay full size. The wall was fine. The guard was solving a problem that particular object didn't have.

Happy to talk grid math or wall pieces.
