everyone talks about Tata’s service issues, but BYD isn't any better

TL;DR: My 8-month-old Relux home charger for my BYD Atto 3 failed three weeks ago, but PPS BYD Bangalore and Relux Electric have completely stonewalled the warranty claim because of dealership red tape and company politics. Their only "solution" after 20 days of inaction was for me to leave my car at the dealership overnight twice a week to charge on a slow 7kW charger while paying out-of-pocket for Rapido commutes. We are now serving a formal legal notice for deficiency of service and demanding full reimbursement for all transit expenses.

I see posts here about Tata's horror stories, and I thought buying a BYD meant I’d escape that nightmare. Turns out, BYD India and their official charging partner, Relux Electric, are giving them a serious run for their money.

Why I'm calling out BYD (and not just Relux)

Now, Relux customer support is completely dysfunctional and utterly useless when dealing with customers. But I am holding BYD directly responsible for two very specific reasons:

  1. The Sales Promise: At the time of purchase, BYD promised us that they would be our single Point of Contact (POC) for everything.
  2. The Red-Tape Catch-22: When you try reaching out to Relux directly, you realize they aren't even allowed (or able) to dispatch a technician or fix a charger unless the BYD dealership formally raises a complaint from their end first. So if BYD sits on their hands, Relux does nothing.

The Gross Negligence from PPS BYD (Bangalore)

My home charger completely died on July 9th. After 20 days of complete silence and zero technician visits, the dealership PPS BYD (Bangalore) finally offered me a "solution."

Their solution was to drive my car to the dealership twice a week, leave it parked overnight on their slow 7kW charger, and figure out my own commute. I’m having to pay out of my own pocket for Rapido rides back and forth every time I drop off and pick up the car.

When I asked why on earth this was the only workaround, I was given the most absurd explanation: The salesperson told me that the only way dealership higher-ups would actually notice my pending complaint and escalate it to management is if they physically see a new car parked charging there twice a week overnight!

And to top it all off? The salesperson in charge eventually let slip the real reason my complaint sat in limbo for three weeks: a single employee forgot to update a internal Google Sheet where they manually log customer complaints.

If you're planning to buy a BYD in Bangalore, be very aware of what PPS BYD’s "premium" post-sales support actually looks like.
