Mother's Day next month. My mom is 50, still works, still runs circles around me. But she's been complaining that her old upright vacuum is too heavy and a pain to haul around.

Looking for something lightweight and simple — no complicated apps. Budget around $150–$250. Mostly hardwood, few rugs, one cat.

Anyone bought a cordless vac for their mom that she actually loved? Specific models appreciated.

Update because a few people asked: Chip is totally fine. Eating, yelling at closed doors, sitting in the clean laundry like he owns shares in it. Normal cat CEO behavior.

The thing I did not expect after getting him settled again is how fast the floor near his favorite window/door area gets weird. Not dirty like “oh no,” but that fine gritty layer you only notice barefoot at 11pm when you’re too tired to care.

He’s mostly indoor, so I kept thinking there’s no way he’s bringing much in. But then I watched him do the full routine: balcony sniff, paws on mat, fur brushing against the screen track, quick litter box visit, then straight onto the floor like a tiny contamination Roomba with opinions.

So now I’m wondering how pets carry outdoor bacteria onto indoor floors when they barely go outside. Is it mostly paws? Fur? Litter dust mixing with outdoor dust?

I’m not trying to sanitize his entire existence lol. Just trying to figure out what’s actually worth doing when you’re busy: wiping paws, washing mats, vacuuming entry spots, or accepting that cats are basically mobile ecosystems.

I’m not trying to keep a spotless house. I just want that “actually clean” feeling to last longer than one work meeting.

Brushed him outside this morning, vacuumed the living room, even got those nice carpet lines for about five minutes. Then life happened. He walked in, shook once, laid by the couch, rolled over because apparently the rug needed seasoning, and by lunch there was fine golden hair in the baseboards again.

The big clumps are whatever. It’s the soft invisible layer that makes the floor feel never fully clean, even when it looks mostly okay. Traditional vacuuming works, but doing it multiple times a day is not a life plan lol.

So what is shedding season for dogs and cats in the US actually like? Is this a short seasonal spike, or do golden homes just need a different kind of daily maintenance rhythm?

i seriously need some perspective here. I live in a tiny apartment with these ridiculously thin walls (thanks, city living), and my roommate has been complaining nonstop that when I use my hair dryer, it sounds like I’m starting up a jet engine. Like, I’m just over here trying to get ready for the day, and suddenly, it’s World War III.

i know apartments can be noisy, but I’m using a Laifen hair dryer, which is honestly one of the best ones I’ve had. It dries my hair in minutes, has powerful airflow, and leaves my hair feeling super soft and smooth. Plus, compared to the old-school hair dryer I used for three years before this, it’s already noticeably quieter. I honestly thought it was a pretty good balance between power and noise, but apparently in my tiny apartment, it’s still “too loud.” 🙄

i’ve tried drying my hair in the bathroom with the door closed (like, I really tried to make this work), but no matter what I do, my roommate still hears it and somehow manages to exaggerate the noise to the point where I feel like I’m running a construction site in the next room. Honestly, I feel like it’s more of an issue with their tolerance for noise than the dryer itself at this point.

So... anyone else living in small apartments where noise travels like crazy? Do I just need to invest in a ""whisper"" dryer or is this all just my roommate being extra? How do you handle this without losing your mind?

When I first started researching transplants, I was so confused. Everything revolved around numbers. Every video, every post, every clinic…it was all about grafts. How many you need, how many you can get, how many someone else got. It's all jumbled up in my head. Naturally, I started thinking that more grafts means better results. That's the narrative most clinics feed you.

What I completely missed was that grafts aren’t the real resource… your donor is. And that donor is finite for life.

The hair at the back and sides of your scalp is what gets used in a transplant. That’s your donor area. And every graft taken from there is permanently removed. It doesn’t regenerate. There’s no reset button. I didn't know that when I started losing my hair. Not many people talk about this.

I kept asking “how many grafts can I get right now?” Whereas, all that time, I should've been asking how much of my total lifetime donor supply am I using in this one step?

Hair loss is progressive. So even if you fix your hairline today, there’s a good chance other areas will thin out later. If you’ve already used a large chunk of your donor early on without thinking long-term, you’re left trying to cover new loss with whatever limited grafts you have left.

And that’s where things start getting restrictive.

This is also where I realised why chasing “maximum grafts” in one sitting can backfire. It might look great initially, but if donor extraction isn’t managed carefully, you can end up with visible thinning at the back. And more importantly, you reduce your ability to handle future hair loss properly. You’re basically spending your resources upfront without a plan.

I kept bouncing between clinics, trying to make a decision. Finally, I had a consultation with Eugenix Hair Sciences and this is where it finally got explained in a way that made sense. Instead of just giving me a number, they walked me through my estimated donor capacity, how my pattern might progress over time, and how grafts should ideally be distributed across stages, not just one procedure.

I needed to stop looking at grafts as a one-time target. I wasted so much time doing that. Did you do anything similar? When did you learn that your donor area matters more than the number of grafts?

In the first half, from the 10th minute when Casemiro scored to the 40th minute, the game was actually precarious, and Heaven nearly made another costly mistake. The side was pinned down and under relentless bombardment for the final 30 minutes of the second half.

If Cunha had been available yesterday, Diallo would have definitely converted his chances. Diallo was deployed out of his favoured position yesterday; he failed to find the back of the net, yet he contributed to the second goal.

Speaking of Mbomo, many have criticised his poor recent form. It is clear, however, that Mbomo has taken on more of a supporting role lately. He no longer charges forward and prioritises shooting as he did in the first half of the season. He made a well-timed run for the second goal and found himself with an open goal opportunity. He would have surely scored had he received the pass.

A player’s value should never be judged solely by goals. His all-round contributions in both attack and defence must also be taken into account. If he took frequent reckless shots and squandered chances like Garnacho, he would deserve heavy criticism. Mbomo simply does not get many shooting opportunities under the current tactical setup. There is no justification for the intense backlash he is facing right now.
