Struggling with self-hatred; anyone else feel this?

Recently I've been struggling a lot with self-hatred and feeling like I'm not improving the same way I used to, and that if my past self saw me now they would be disappointed.

The problem is that when I get self-hating I unconsciously start criticizing others and the world more, too, and I want to isolate myself to avoid hurting anyone by it too, but usually end up thinking I could get through it by biting my tongue or something. Which sometimes works but often it just results in people seeing something's wrong with me and trying to care, but it's not their fault and I don't want to make them a trash bin for my emotions.

I should be more compassionate towards myself but it's hard to when I feel like I'm becoming a worse person. And I try to have a growth mindset but something always trips me up these days and I don't know why, I feel like my perseverance is falling and I'm starting to feel like all my moral commitments and standards are simply empty, doing nothing in the world, even if that's probably untrue. What right do I have to exist when so many problems persist for others and I can't solve them? Maybe I'm just burned out but how does one recover from that?

Anyone relate?

How do I know which ENxJ I am?

Hi ENTJs! I've recently gotten into MBTI theory and I think I'm an ENxJ, but I don't know which one. The functions make sense to me but I don't know how to rank them for myself, it's so contextual, and cognitive function tests keep giving me mixed results.

Going off of dichotomies instead, my clearest dimension is N, then E seems pretty solid given that I'm socially an ambivert-leaning-extroverted and can't really relate to introversion, and J has leaned more towards the middle over time but it used to be more extreme. I've always been a good leader and end up in such roles almost by default, which they say is something EJs tend to do too.

The T and F really trips me up, however. My family would say I'm quite logical, by which they mean I'm a reasonable person and also good at STEM. My friends would have varying opinions since I'm very empathetic and altruistic but not all that dramatic and doesn't really change myself to people-please. My best friend, an INTJ, says I'm probably T like her cuz she finds it hard to get along with people who are too emotional, and I'm not; but that could also be me adapting to her while with her. Different people have said I'm too helpful, too naive about other people, too honest, too humble, too good/ethical, too smart, too perfect. I don't really agree with these characterizations btw but if that's how other people see me, so be it.

What I can say is that I make decisions with emotions and thoughts, and which one is prioritized is quite contextual. I care about other people but I never really merge with them, I know their goals and mine are not always the same, and make an effort to balance these, although my goals are sometimes just to make them happy or whatever. I'm really stringy with myself, only willing to spend on books and essentials, but generous with others. Like I would save up money by not buying coffee so that I could donate more later without going bankrupt, that type of stuff. I do have strong problem-solving and organizational skills, ways of getting stuff done; and also high empathy, with people as well as animals, and that public service and activism are among my favorite activities that I could not imagine not doing.

I'm also fairly certain that I'm a 1w2 on the enneagram, which should mean that I'm a Te dom?

Anyway, sorry for the long post! Does any of this sound like what it feels like to be an ENTJ, or should I check out ENFJ or other types? Thanks!

Type me for fun!

I already have an inkling of my type but I'd like to hear what y'all think so here goes!

I seem kind and pretty normal, but I'm also weirder than I seem and more determined and competent.

I care a lot about society and want to do something significant for humanity, like paradigm-shifting science, and also through activism and volunteering (the real kind that actually helps!) throughout my life. Socially liberal. Frugal materially so I can donate the money saved; bikes and rides public transport whenever I can for the reduced carbon emissions. Doesn't want my soul to be bartered away to AI or to sell out to things that I don't believe in, and don't want to be defined by just one thing. Doesn't like to be forced to do things against my values or my free will but otherwise can make compromises and concessions. Organized and gets a lot done, reliable, good at mastering new situations and doing chores no one else wants to do; makes stuff happen and finishes it too. Empathizes a lot, across geographies, demographics, or even species, but has the emotional resilience to not be overwhelmed by it but take action.

I'm altruistic but not people-pleasing, though I will treat even those I hate kindly, authentic though I hide some parts of myself since I don't like bothering people with my negativity when it arises (though it can leak out anyway, especially around family). I love my friends, apparently they think I'm interesting too, since I do a lot and quite diversely, geographically, relationally, academically speaking; can get deep with strangers quickly. Doesn't like being complimented, likes complimenting others. Most people either like me, admire me (if they somehow learn of my achievements; but why do people care so much about that? I don't like introducing hierarchies between us), or find me irrelevant; I don't really make enemies. Loves politics, literature, philosophy, biology, multidimensional geometry, basically everything discipline but CS, med, and business (I feel like enough people are doing what I see as conventionally successful disciplines, though those are important fields and I'm not entirely unconcerned about them). Also unironically like school/work/public service better than breaks, breaks can get lonely, boring, and meaningless unless I'm traveling with friends, and with family it's stressful.

If it helps: Big Five scores 100 O, 103 C, 92 E, 104 A, 51 N (all out of 120). Sagittarius. Neutral good alignment.

Thanks in advance!

Type me!! (memes I relate to + description)

Answering some questions in the guide! Edited so y'all don't have to read so much but it's still quite long. Thanks for your input in advance, I really appreciate it!

  • What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not? If you are not working, what kind of job do you want to do or what are you studying?

I'm an undergrad student and probably gonna work in science academia though I'll be doing political activism and writing on the side too. I do like it; it feels purposeful.

  • If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?

Lonely: emotions dimmed, a bit COVID-esque, and bored. Though I can do it if I have to.

  • What is your relation with movement and your surroundings? For instance do you prefer a sport or outdoors event? If an outdoors event what is it? And why? If not what type of activities do you tend to engage?

I like hiking, biking, especially with friends and randos. It's a great way to explore places and nature while deepening our connections with each other! I don't like competitive sports as much but did run cross country competitively (and was quite good at it, because perseverance is a strength).

  • Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?

Yeah! I've led stuff at service/activism clubs, student council, etc. I'm an organized leader who likes bridging people and who doesn't shirk from doing extra work. I lead by a combination of agreement, assigning tasks based on people's preferences, by example, and by making the whole thing enjoyable and the results visible enough that people want to keep coming. The best leaders make their teammates feel a sense of ownership over their work, like they made the choices and I trust them (even though I'm technically keeping an eye on the whole thing---just don't tell them that).

  • What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?

I don't think about the past a whole lot and the future I'd like to leave open but considered. I don't consider it wise to make premature decisions about the future when you haven't met the things that would help you make a decision about it, but I also don't think it's wise to not consider it at all. As for the present I don't so much live in it as I live outside of time.

  • How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?

Almost unable to refuse, tbh. If I see someone needs help my instinct and empathy just goes and help them though I'm conscious that it is a decision rather than something I have to do, and sometimes I do have to stop myself to consider the effectiveness of what I'm doing. A less nice reason is like, ok sometimes I really don't want to help because I think the other person is asking for help for problems that don't even exist, or I think they're whiny, but for the sake of keeping up my reputation as a nice person I'll do it anyway. *internal eye roll*

  • Do you need logical consistency in your life?

I want to have a level of common sense but really how could life be logically consistent? Even logical systems aren't consistent when you strip them down to their premises most of the time.

  • How important is efficiency and productivity to you?

I'm constantly busy but don't optimize on purpose, just don't find that I need to rest much. To do lists work better than strict schedules.

  • What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?

I like to know the why behind things so that even when I forget I can recall it again. Rote memorization is difficult so something like history dates and people would require lots more effort than, say, literature (I spontaneously remember quotes) or math. I love creativity too. What's important to you and why?

  • What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?

I sometimes feel fearless until I encounter something that may kill me. Or...I actually fear like, my friends and family dying; being in a position where I have no agency and can't change anything. Also the classic 'what if everyone hates me'. Sometimes I fear that I have peaked and won't do anything of consequence in the future. Very few things make me uncomfortable and I don't hate hate much except myself, I can feel pretty intense self-hatred sometimes. For others I can echo my friends' hate and society's hate but usually when I want to change something it's out of love not hate, like, I love different people so I want to stop the hate crimes! I love other species so I want to help protect it! I love this theory but it's flawed so I want to debunk it! Etc.

  • Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?

Like, the nature of whiteness and how it relates to purity but also the racism that results from that; the feeling of emptiness, its mathematical representation as 0, and what that implies about nonduality. How different cultures consider emptiness differently and why; how the room is not truly empty because of air molecules. I'd say this stuff aloud and get pretty inflamed when I get to 'How do we liberate those who are in similar situations, unable to do anything?' and start crying that there's no one to listen to my speech and hit the walls or something. Or maybe I'd just meditate.

  • How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?

Immediately, though I personally haven't experienced many emotions because my life isn't really all that dramatic I can intuit other people's emotions easily and also use emotions as part of my guide for action, though not the only guide.

  • Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why would you?

Not as a rule (pun intended). Only if the rule is unreasonable and no one would find out, like, idk, why not climb over a fence if no one's watching, though I'm not gonna say that to my parents. But also stuff like: host undocumented people in your dorm even though it's illegal. Civil disobedience because rules don't ensure justice. I'm neutral good on DnD alignment if that helps.

  • What is the ideal life, in your opinion?

If only everyone could live the ideal life! The ideal life is one that lives out my full potential while also helping others and changing society in a way that allows more people to live their ideal lives. I honestly feel like I'm pretty close, and that's a privilege not many have, as it requires luck of circumstance.
