Which chest armor should I use in my case? How defense stats work really?
Coming back to the game, I'm debating whether I should use Siegfried AS or Zelclot AS chest for my heavy weight gun arm build.
With my build, Siegfried should have
Higher basic defense (1.3k max). Lower laser defense (600 max.). Roughly the same physical defense (800 max.)
Extremely bad stamina emergency regen (only 6), which surely I will need 1 - 2 attachments to increase that (+10 for lv5 attachment)
Amazing aerial performance, but expect get a -50% penalty in my build. Still better than Zelclot chest
Zelclot on the other hand will
Result in near balance across all 3 defense stats (800 max. for physical, 900 max. for the rest), but lower raw numbers in defense stats, i.e. basic defense + physical or laser defense
Acceptable stamina emergency regen (12), which I may still want to use 1 attachment to increase it
Have worse aerial performance even without any weight penalty
Which one do you think is better? One of the biggest factors IMO is how defense stats work. Naming whether 1.3k basic defense + 600 (or 700 with attachment) laser defense is better, or 900 basic + 900 laser defense is better. Especially AS will reduce defense when active. And how far/close the difference is.
Have you used/heard about Ultracite? How is your experience?
I was attempting to migrate a small project from ESLint + Prettier to Oxlint and Oxfmt, and I discovered Ultracite while searching for presets.
Ultracite appears to be some sort of presets for various linting and formatting tools. Though I do not fully understand why it needs to provide a check and fix CLI command that seems to wrap ESlint/Prettier/Oxlint/Oxtfmt/... under the hood.
Have you used Ultracite before and if yes, how is your experience?
Dragon's Dogma vs Molten Fury for Fighter pawns from pure effectiveness standpoint?
Now, this is assuming the pawn is not super high level, e.g. in around lv 40 max. And it is about the base game (for now).
Which one do you prefer for pawns?
Dragon's Dogma has higher stats, but it is a blade, which has issues against armor. Molten Fury doesn't have that issue, but it has lower stats (especially knockdown, which is weird), and fire is generally the most resisted element in the base game.
How effective is Simple thief pawns in combat? Any quirks?
I'm making one who is supposed to be a teen. And I found the highest pitch Simple male voice to suit the character the best. Yet, I'm uncertain how well/poor this inclination would it affect the combat efficiency of the pawn.
For the record, this pawn is meant to be a DPS. So straightforward was my first choice. But the straightforward male voices don't really fit how a teen supposed to sound like IMO.
Looking for fashion advice for thief and sorcerer
I can't seem to decide which outfit I should go for for thief and sorcerer.
For the Thief, it seems that Vanquisher's Armor fit the theme more. But that restricts the option for the Sorcerer, since quite a few good looking outfits for sorcerers are in black.
For sorcerer, Ares Morpho Robe looks good obviously, but like I said it is in black and clashes with the color scheme of the thief, while making these two look too different from the rest of the party, who are likely not in black.
Any suggestions? Also open for other suggestions not shown in the image above.
Best inclination for sorcerer pawn from purely combat effectiveness standpoint?
I have tested a few options myself, while I found some other discussion online in which all of them have quirks here and there. I can't make up my mind about which is the best (of the worst?). Which inclination you found is the most effective for sorcerer pawn specifically?
Straightforward: love to get into melee range and climb on bigger enemies. Rather bad
Calm with all core skills learnt: love levitating and spam basic attack instead of casting spells. Really bad.
Calm with only Quick Cast learnt: this one I haven't tested personally, and I wonder if this is the best option. Though I worry Calm will make the pawn eager to interrupt casting.
Simple: combat-wise it is the best among options that I have tested myself. It stays on the ground and is eager to keep casting spells. The only issue is that Simple pawn loves to run around, and there is a decent chance that the pawn will be unable to engage in the big fight you are in until much later, due to it being so far away.
Kind-hearted: combat-wise it is similar to Simple. But the pawn now will try to get near my melee pawns, hence the enemies as well, which is the exact opposite of what I want the pawn to do. Aside from that, it is decently well
Preparing my soon-to-be perfect party for the upcoming Aug patch and DLC
Some might find the characters look familiar. Because all of them are based on character sliders I found online, with tweaks to my liking here and there.
Fun facts:
The arisen is meant to be a half elf MA. The "half" part is my way to justify why he doesn't understand Elvish, while the "elf" part aligns with the Elvish nature of MA.
The Beastern ends up being the tallest among the party, which is not what I was expecting initially.
The thief is meant to be a boy. That's my way to justify why he is 160cm tall. It's a shame that 160cm is too tall for a lot of DnD races that are stereotyped to be a thief/rogue, and that's the shortest height we can get in DD2, despite we have children in this game.
The elf is meant to be a sorcerer. Initially she was meant to be the tallest. But turns out classic DnD rule suggests elf is shorter than human on average. I always thought it is the other way around
Let's hope Capcom don't deliberately forbidden us from hiring pawns across our own saves.
In your opinion, does it break immersion if your party contains characters with non-canon races (e.g. elf, goblin, etc.)
Knowing that the game will have an DLC and will have 3 save slots, I'm eager revisit this game and form the perfect party of my own. Yet, the game canonically only allow us to create either human or beastern characters. So, I wonder is there anything that you recall that kind of break immersion with non-canon party members with you.
So far my idea:
- Arisen: Magic Archer male half elf
- "half" in order to justify why he cannot speak elf language. And the elf part aligns with the MA theme
- Pawn 1: Fighter female beastern
- Straightforward
- Guardian
- Pawn 2: Thief male goblin
- Straightforward
- Forager
- Pawn 3: Sorcerer female elf
- Calm (without learning Levitate)
- Woodland Wordsmith (she is an elf. Obviously, she knows how to speak elf language)
As a side note, what's your experience with calm Sorcerer pawn + don't learn Levitate? I heard it is better than kindhearted Sorcerer. I hate the fact that Sorcerer will sometimes levitate and spam basic attacks for no reasons
New to the series, trying to do a canon-ish run. What color should I use for armor and weapon?
It seems that the standard issued armor are in blue, but the main character(s) of the franchise are mainly in black/dark grey. Which one should I use?
Also, dang, scouts are OP. Now I wonder what will happen if I run a squad with 4 scouts
[Shadowrun Hong Kong] What items will you loan to companions if nuyen is not a concern?
Assuming all of them will be using their canon weapon types (e.g. no acid bolt for Gobbet).
My idea: For starter everyone should have a trauma kit. So those without one in their default loadout will have one loaned.
Duncan
- Steyr AUG-CSL - assault rifle that marks target when hit
Is0bel
- Ruger Thunderbolt (Smartlink) - increase accuracy while losing bleed DOT compared to her default pistol
- Medic lv 3, Blaster lv3 - to replace her Medic lv 2 and Tar Blaster lv 1
- Attacker and Assassin ESP - to replace her Shield ESP and fill all ESP slots
Gobbet
- "Wild One" - unique SMG with AOE attack but reduced accuracy
- Wild Aim II - basically AOE Aim II, to replace her Aim II
- Heal II - to replace her Heal I
- Spell Focus: Strip Armor II, Dual Blur II - to fill her remaining spell slots
- Spirit Control and Spellcasting passive Fetish - boost her stats
Racter
- Cavalier Deputy (Snartlink) - basically the smartlink variant of his default revolver for better accuracy
Gaichu
I don't really like melee character much in this game, but this sword is free so there is no harm to give him that.
- Emperor's Sword - a sword with ranged magic attack
What's your opinion?
Is there a canon for the main character in the Shadowrun Hong Kong video game?
Stuff like the race, archetype, certain choices during the storyline. I'm considering going for a canon playthrough.
It seems that there is a novel available, but I'm not sure if that's considered canon.
Looking for comments for my Sniper Rigger build
So I have a sniper rigger build in mind that I'm experimenting (that I previously asked in this sub-reddit, thanks a lot for the feedback BTW). I finally have it fully planned, and I wanna look for comments on how well this will work and whether there are room for further improving it.
TL;DR My idea: Since I will have at most 1 AP left with both drones active. I'm thinking to give my character a sniper rifle and spend some karma on corresponding stats such that it could get the most out of the extra AP.
Race: Elf
- Turns out in the bonus campaign, I could get 28 karma more. That means I could raise Quickness and Ranged Combat to 7 by the end of the campaign. Combining with stats provided by cyberware, I could effectively have 10 Quickness, exceeding the racial limit of Human. And since I'm gonna invest 3 points into Charisma anyway, I'm effectively just losing 1 karma at the start in excahnge.
- Personal preference: female, just to balance the roaster
- Personal preference: on the plus side, the roaster don't have an elf (except during the prologue), so it balance nicely
Stats
- Body: 5 (start with 2)
- Cyber Affinity: 5 (start with 2)
- Quickness: 5 (start with 3)
- Ranged Combat: 5 (start with 3)
- Rifle: 1
- Ranged Combat: 5 (start with 3)
- Strength: 3 (start with 0)
- Intelligence: 9 (start with 4; reach 7 at the start of act 3)
- Biotech: 2
- Drone Control: 9 (start with 4; reach 7 at the start of act 3)
- Drone Combat: 9 (start with 3; reach 7 at the start of act 3)
- Charisma: 3
- Spirit Summoning: 3
Explanation on the choice of stats
- Body and Cyber Affinity 5: in order to use Wired Reflexes
- Quickness and Ranged Combat 5 + Strength 3: in order to use Prototype Sniping Laser when equipping Saeder-Krupp Skillwires
- Biotech 2: to see enemies HP
- Charisma and Spirit Summoning 3: to access Cobra totem
The karma should be just enough. I also include a buffer of -5 karma to cater for skill checks that cannot be met with this build (e.g. those that require Gang or Security etiquette)
Weapons
- Prototype Sniping Laser (start with Ruger 100-S (Smartlink))
- Guardian Mk. 2 drone (start with one lower tier attack drone until I get 3 AP)
- Guardian Mk. 2 Auto drone
Cyberware
- Head: Datajack
- Eyes: Vision Magnification Eyes (Alpha)
- Body: Wired Reflexes
- Skin: Orthoskin (Bioware)
- R. Arm: Saeder-Krupp Skillwires
- L. Arm: Auto-Loader Cyber-arm
- R. Leg: Hydraulic Jack Mk 2
- L. Leg: Enhanced Articulation (Bioware)
Etiquette: Shadowrunner (I can only choose one, and this one seem to be the most useful according to the internet)
Shadowrun Hong Kong - how well will rigger perform?
Edit: just noticed the game has a Prototype Sniper Laser, which has nearly the stats of the BIS sniper rifle while only requiring ranged combat 6 and STR 3. That's much more karma saving compared to ranged combat 8. I guess I would aim for that instead.
I'm considering getting back into this game, but I have a few questions regarding riggers. My initial thought was to build a sniper rigger, since I will have at most 1 AP left with both drones active and in theory the sniper rifle will allows me to do some damage without requiring repositioning a lot.
But then I noticed from the wiki that the BIS sniper rifle requires range combat 8, which seems very hard to achieve if I wanna max out drone related stats as well.
So now I'm not so sure about this plan. What's your opinion with rigger builds? How do you make it shine?
Alternatively, if I scrap the rigger plan, what's the most effective build for this game?
BTW, how does the stat bonus/passive from cyberware works? e.g. there is certain piece that grants +1 Quickness and +1 Ranged Combat, does it mean if my character has Ranged Combat 7, I could equip a weapon that requires Ranged Combat 8, due to the +1 bonus?
What's your opinion of using Ubuntu Sans for branding website and documents?
For the record, I'm a layman on this topic. So hopefully you could bear with me if I begin asking trivial questions or making not so accurate statements.
I like the fact that Ubuntu Sans font has a bit of personality to it. It looks slightly futuristic without being too "gamery". Especially when compared to "standard" sans fonts like Inter.
However, it also seems to be noticeably thinner on every font weight compared to Inter. Especially the standard 400 font weight. This seems to be even more noticeable on mobile. I'm not sure if it is just me getting too used to Inter, or it is actually an issue.
I wonder what your opinion is on this topic.
