Got a long bus ride ahead, rec me something fun to read?

I'm pretty much open to anything as long as its somewhere in the romantasy realm. Just to give a direction one of my all time favorites is the Folk of Air series. No alphahole jerk male leads or powerless weak female leads please, otherwise gimme a suggestion(s)! (and if you're an author feel free to rec your own book, make yourself an easy sale ;)

Anyone ever used the rainfly of their tent like a tarp or bivy?

Random thought that popped into my head as I was packing away my Cloud Up tent. In theory the fly could be used by itself as some sort of tarp-like shelter, used probably with trekking poles. It would be a bit oddly shaped but I don't see any reason why a fly couldn't work on its own w/o poles in some manner. I looked it up on youtube and didn't really see anyone doing this but I'm curious. Anyone ever tried this?

How many tent pegs do I need for the minimum Naturehike Mongar 2 UL?

Sorry this is a dumb question but I'm not at the same house as my Mongar and a friend's loaning me some of his groundhog pegs. I'm trying to save weight where I can, what's the minimum I'd need for a decent rain pitch of the Mongar 2 UL? It's a pretty popular tent so i figured someone here might know :) TY!

Where was I yesterday?

The street sign and a few other identifying bits have been edited out. Likely the country will be pretty easy to guess, but can anyone pinpoint the city or, even better, exactly where in the city this was? I reckon' someone here'll know!

I'll give the win to whoever gets the closest (or answers first if no one happens to get the city right) :)

Doing my 2nd 100k (steps) challenge, what sort of food should I take?

Last year I did my first 100,000 steps in 1 day challenge. On Tuesday I'm going for it again. I don't really remember what food I DID pack with me but I recall not being hungry at all the whole day and my energy kind of dropping because I wasn't getting hunger cues and not eating enough.

Any tips? Both food wise and eating schedule wise? I'm thinking things that are calorie dense like hummus. I remember taking pudding cups last time and they leaked and made a mess. Energy bars are an option though they're pretty dry. I will have 2 villages I go through to restock so I don't need to carry that much at a time. Water is a bit more of an issue but I'm picking a cooler day (11C) and I'm taking my Sawyer water filter with me to use as an emergency backup since I'll be hiking by a few somewhat sketchy water sources.

How often do you think I should force myself to eat? Every 2 hours? I'm guessing on that one, though any tips are greatly appreciated :)

Lookinf for fanfic with Rey as a runaway bride

Okay, it's been a while since I read this one and all i remember was that it was a canonverse AU where Rey was somehow engaged to Kylo and it was an arranged marriage (i think maybe by Plutt but I'm not sure) and she got cold feet based on something Kylo said shortly before their wedding so she ran away. And then kylo chased her across several worlds. I never read the end of it, not sure if it's incomplete or a finished fic.

Anyone have any idea? Sorry I can't recall more

Books with a runaway bride being chased by her ex? (fantasy or sci fi preferred)

Recently re-read the Remnant Chronicles by Mary Pearson and I loved the Lia/Rafe/Kaden love triangle and whole runaway bride element. Today I just read a SFR by Mina Carter with a similar-ish theme but this one just didn't do it for me (and I normally love Mina Carter, this was one of her older ones so maybe that's why).

Any suggestions for "bride to be runs away and gets prusued by finacee?" trope? I don't really care about standalone vs series or heat level, though I strongly prefer either fantasy/romantasy/or sci fi settings.

TY!

Outfits in this flick were a bit skimpy for a kid's film, not that 12y/o me minded ;) Bonus VLB-worthy Oded Fehr in pic 6

I randomly found a video about it and it has to be one of the strangest tents designs I've ever seen. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dNY9k-I4Mq4

I've never heard anyone mention this before and i'm just really curious if anyone has any insights into the design? I really don't get the concept but good for them trying to be innovative.

It's going to be end of May for 1400km through Romania, I'll probably finish in July sometime. I would expect the weather to start around 20-25C and pretty rainy in the beginning, nights 10C, and by the end it's going to be pretty hot, probably upper 30s. I will be either hiking alone or part of the way with a friend, we're still not sure yet. If I know I'm going to be alone I'll change my tent to my 1p Cloud Up and that'll shave off around 600g from the tent setup. I put the heavier 2p Mongar in for the list right now. Last time we did a section of the trail and we stayed at an accommodation every 10-14 days so that's how long I need to go between charging my electronics, serious clothes washing, etc (though in the past there were a few clandestine hobo laundry moments in public bathroom sinks along the way).

I can probably slightly shave off a little weight with my sleeping mat etc setup. My only real luxury items as I see them are the watercolour set which I really would like to take (I used it on rainy days last time) and the notebook but that's only 50g. Things like the bearspray and knee brace are essential.

Food and water not shown, nor fuel for the alcohol stove. I'm considering leaving the stove behind entirely and just eating cold food but right now it's made the cut.

Any suggestions/comments? There will be occasional options to buy things along the way and I might leave a few of my warmer clothes behind mid trip.

edit: realized I missed a few small things like a wall adapter, hand sanitizer, and my phone. probably a few other things will come to mind later too

I'm burned out on boning. It's fine if it's a bit spicy, I'll probably just skip those scenes, but surely there's some 2/5 heat or less standalones out there? I need a palate cleanser from the high heat stuff for a bit. Really no other preferences but if it had a knight or forest adventure that'd be cool., been feeling the LOTR vibes recently.

I'm trying to decide if I should get an ultralight stool vs a chair as a gift for someone. Both are off alxpress and I don't think I can post the links directly but here's the stats:

chair "moon chair style"

https://preview.redd.it/8rnwo8sfk3yg1.jpg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1b2cdc2c8aff245c3f82d585484c250ecfb2cd1

<-not this one but looks like this one

$65USD

weight allegedly 570g

Stool

<-also not this specific model/image, just grabbed it as a reference

$19USD

298g, packs up pretty small and flat

The chair's twice the weight, 3x the price. Not that 570g is heavy by any means. It's probably 3x as comfortable though I couldn't get any clear idea of how small the chair packs down.

I'm kind of leaning towards the stool. This is a gift for someone else though so I'm not really sure which is better. Usage will be on a long thru hike so weight is a factor to consider. (I'm not in the US, btw, just giving prices in usd for comparison)

Without going into the details, I have an 80y/o relative who wants to go on a 2-3 week thru hike to celebrate her 80th birthday. I mean how can I say no to that request? Physically she's in pretty good condition, she can hike up to 40km in a single day! Some circulation issues especially with her feet. But that's just for a dayhike, mutli night hiking is a whole different thing.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions? Some obvious things I've thought of:

  • choose flatter routes
  • routes that have the option to bypass tougher sections via alternative trail or public transportation
  • go shorter distances every day even though she can hike long
  • still figuring out the sleeping setup but I think loaning her my thickest winter mat for more comfort
  • regular snacks and meals, when i'm alone i tend to skip them or just shove something in my mouth but instead I'd take the time and effort to actually cook
  • maybe a hiking chair or stool? I've never used one so I don't really know what I'm looking for. I saw one on alxpress for $20 thats 350g (stool)
  • make sure she drinks enough water, maybe add in some electrolyte powder
  • bring extra first aid materials like a brace, stretchy knee supports, stuff like that just in case.
  • I'll definitely be carrying more than 50% of the total weight and that's okay too

Anything else? And please respect that I'm asking for "how to" advice not "should we" advice :) TY!

edit: We're in Europe btw

As the title says. Water bottles, hydration bladders? Carry just a cup and drink as you go? (like we did in Sweden though I don't recommend it often elsewhere) Do you keep it inside the backpack, or in the side pouches? I think heavy things like water are supposed to be carried in the middle of your bag down low and towards your spine but that's taking up prime bag real estate.

For me: I don't like hydration bladders, I usually carry 1-4liters in bottles and split up evenly in the side pouches though I have trouble reaching them without taking off my backpack. Supposedly my Osprey has these side holes to make it easier to take in and out but I've never really found they work so I'll carry a smaller 0.5l in my waist pouch that I drink from as I walk and then top it up when i stop and take off my pack.

What do you all do?
