Another bat sizing post

My 12yo (almost 13yo) son made our league’s intermediate all-star team this year. I’m so proud of him. He had a good season and definitely earned it.

He’s super fast and a demon in the outfield and on the bases but he’s super small for his age and is kind of a weak hitter although contact is good.

For reference he’s 4’ 8” and maybe 70lbs.

He’s currently swinging a 28” -10 2025 Hype and despite his size I think it’s a little small. It looks like he swings hard but I think it lacks the inertial mass to send the ball farther.

Im thinking he should move up to something like a 30” -8.

What do you think? I realize it’s a physics calculation that I’m not qualified to make. Heavier bat = slower bat speed but greater mass. Where’s the trade off?

He definitely has to move up next year because after Juniors he’ll be in high school and will have to use BBCOR.

About "dropped" 3rd strike

We played in our city's Intermediate championship game and had what appears to be a horrible rally-killing bad call from our plate umpire.

The play is: batter has two strikes, swings at ball that bounces in the dirt first, catcher secured ball, batter runs, catcher overthrows 1st, runner takes second, umpire calls him out on strikes because a ball that bounces in the dirt but is secured doesn't constitute "dropped" 3rd strike.

Note that "dropped" is a colloquial simplification - the rulebook says nothing about dropping but it does mention a ball that is "caught" and for this I think you have to defer to the rulebook's definition of a catch, which excludes balls that hit the ground first.

Here's a great example:

These guys (the umpires) who I know well and generally trust, had one of the worst LL games I've ever seen called in my life. Mistake after mistake that all went in the other team's favor. We had several rally killing bad calls. Ended the game 7-4 (L) and it really could have been closer or even a W.

I normally do not complain about umpires and generally think they haven't influenced the outcome that much. A bad call here and there isn't why you win or lose by 6 tuns. This one was different.

Hard way to end the season.

What to say to a pitcher

Real quick - I’m an AC on my son’s intermediate team and we’re playing in our championship at 3 today.

Our manager is on call for his job and may miss the game.

Our SP is a very talented kid, big 13yo that throws mid-70s to low 80s. Sometimes he can go the distance but sometimes he’s off and gets rattled.

If the manager is away and I have to step in, what’s the best thing to say to this kid during a mound visit to help him get re-aligned, in the event that things take a turn?

I‘m planning to have a good pregame chat with him. What else can I do?

Thanks

I know this has been asked before so forgive me.

I’ve been doing daily creatine for 10+ years and it’s always been very good to me. never understood the complaints about water and bloating.

Then sometime in the last year it’s turned on me and I don’t know exactly why. when I take it, 12 hours later I’m having insane diarrhea.

I’ve tried changing diet, removing trigger foods etc, and nothing helps until I stop the creatine, and the diarrhea always matches the timing.

I’ve tried HCL and Mono and it’s the same. I’ve tried splitting the dose which doesn’t help. Taking it at lunch with food does help but it still bloats tf out of me.

Sucks because otherwise I love it and have for a long time.

Any ideas? Is there another form that is easier on digestion? Take it with digestive enzymes? Gummies instead of powder?

Maybe it’s just time to move on.
