Kansas COM and legal issue?

Looking at programs and over the last couple years there is a decent amount of negative Reddit stuff about kansas college of osteopathic medicine. I typically try to only consider a fraction of it being fact. However I am wondering. Does anyone know if they have any legal run in’s? Lawsuits filed, lost, won, settled, etc. Seems to have a couple names and ties to a bigger corporation in Chicago. Heck. If you were a student at that school and feel like you were somehow “harmed”, would love to hear that story!

Failed first exam - what to do

Age 40+non Trad, 20 year ICU nurse. Admitted to a DO program. Took the first midterm and bombed that shit. I have two more exams. If my final overall is not at least a 70, I can do a remediation and a cumulative CAS exam, pass that and I continue. Fail that and I have to basically wait for the following year to try the class again. OR the dean sends me home. Here is one catch. The remediation and CAS for the first exam is after the start of the next block. Another catch. If we end up with a total of three remediations a year or five our entire four years we get dismissed. If we ask for a first year repeat, the rules change, and now we have two remediations EVER equals dismissal, so in the new REDO first year through fourth year - we will be dismissed on that second remediation. Not sure what to do. Current thoughts are that, if I fail this first class, I won’t do the remediation and the CAS. I will just conclude that I was not prepared or didn’t study right or didn’t put in enough time (I live at campus) or just too old etc and withdraw. I would be out $15,000 in loan debt at that point. That sounds more respectable that hanging on for dear life, and looking over my shoulder for a dismissal where I would then have a LOT more debt and no degree. As a side bar. Half the professors hardly speak English, all students are using AI to self teach the classes because professors just read slides and don’t teach… is this normal at all medical school? And the OMM professor DO is one of the weirdest people I have ever met in medicine, his weird cult like DO ramblings make me uncomfortable. AND. Admin seems apathetic. I really like my faculty advisor and fellow students. AND out of a 170 student cohort, every year about 50 of those people chose to be held back and repeat vs dismissal. We have people who passed year one and two, but they failed first comlex and were made to repeat year two for permission to take comlex again. Dunno. What do I do? Does all of this sound typical of a DO med program?? Thank you!!

Medical School as renewal CE?

Been NREMTP over 25 years. Also have FPC and CCP. I start medical school this month and was wondering if anyone was able to use medical school education as the basis for recertification of those credentials? I want to keep those three and do emergency medicine.

Programs that didn’t fill residency seats

I’m sure it’s a state secret but when I saw there were over 100 EM residency slots that went unfilled I started to wonder. What programs are those? I’m so curious. Is it like rural South Dakota so no applications? Are their programs that will have seats for ten but only pick 8? What’s the story?

Any other incoming OMS1 still waiting for FINaid???

We start orientation in a few weeks. We still do not have a Total COA number, or any information about awards, fed loans, etc. Nothing. The financial aid office says that they are waiting for the department of education to do something / publish something. It was May, then first part of June, then mid June, then end of June and now it’s “sometime over the coming weeks”’. We have a class of 150 plus and a TON of people waiting to pack and move, until they get the official FinAid package and know what they are dealing with… ANYONE ELSE? Or is it just our program?

Med School Prep resources / plan

Greetings. Been a paramedic 25 years and start med school in six weeks. The planned prematriculation class that I anticipated never materialized and now I feel like I need to do some prep / review. Does anyone have resources, classes, apps, recommendations? I feel like I need to review chemistry, organic, bio, A&P, micro, etc etc. I can’t find anything. Does Anki have those prep topics? Amboss? I will pay for anything. Thank you kindly!
