My girlfriend gets upset that I have a close relationship with my mom and family. She says things like, “I don’t want someone invested with their family like that” and “I don’t want to feel neglected over family.” But I don’t understand why having a strong bond with your family is seen as a bad thing. We spend time together, have family nights, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. To me, a man being close with his family and respecting his mom should be viewed as a positive quality, not something to be angry about.
