Hearing aid bands for new borns

Hi all! My 2.5month daughter will be getting hearing aids in both ears in a few week's time.

Does anyone have any recommendations for new born hearing aid bands and clips? I want to get her a bit accustomed to wearing the bands before the aids come in.

Should I sell my rental property?

First the financial situation:

I have $335,000 left on a 1 bedroom rental property in Vancouver, BC at 3.89%. It's probably worth about $600,000 in this current market. After mortgage, strata, special levies, property taxes, rental income tax, maintenance, everything, I'm still putting in about $500/month.

I just bought a primary residence (6 months ago, 5 year term at 4.04%) for my growing family and that has $740,000 left on it. I put about $1,000/mo extra into the principal every month.

The family also has about $250,000 between TFSAs, RRSPs, RESPs and checking accounts. All with good rate of returns greater than my % rates.

The family household income is about $280,000/yr.

After everything is said and done we average about $4,000/mo in savings.

No debts at all.

---

I like the idea of my rental property long term as I'd like one of the kid's to use it when / if they go to college it decide to move out in 15 years time.

I also like to think of it as my safety net place in the event our financial situation explodes and I need a roof with a cheap mortgage for us to weather out the storm.

But the $500/month I put into it annoys me, so does the amount of interest I'm paying in total across the 2 properties.

Wwyd? Sell the rental in this down market and consolidate that equity into one property? Or suck it up and continue to build assets to secure your family's future?

Pay down house or invest

I understand this is extremely subjective and situational. I would love the community's personal opinions and perspective on this topic.

Would love to hear from you if you've got peace of mind by paying down your mortgage or if you've chosen not to and invested instead. If the latter, what is your time horizon, strategy or reasoning?

Sharp arresting larynx pain

Currently going through a lpr flareup wondering if anyone else has gone through this or has tips on how to manage this.

During a flare up my typical symptoms are pain while swallowing. I also have a Jackson's Ulcer grazing my vocal chord that shoots stinging pain which translates up to my ear.

The one symptom I cannot understand is that on days that I talk loudly or too much I get a very intense and extremely sudden pain in my larynx mid sentence. It makes me stop immediately and feels like a bunch of thorns suddenly stabbed my voice box from all directions. The immediate pain lasts a few seconds but I also have to lower my voice or take a break from talking else it comes back again.

My work demands I talk basically 7 hours a day so I'm hoping someone has tips on how to manage this.

New born baby girl diagnosed with hearing loss. What should I expect?

My 1 month old baby girl has been diagnosed with permanent moderate hearing loss in both ears.

The audiologist says she's getting hearing aids at 3months and will be in speech and language sessions too. We will also be referred to an ENT shortly for further testing.

I have so many questions but what's life with hearing loss going to be like for her?

Is this something that slows you down or just another thing like glasses that you have to manage?

What are surprising things that will happen that I may not expect?

Can she go swimming?

Has hearing technology changed much in the last 20 years?

I have so many questions, I don't know where to begin. I'm scared but definitely ready to do whatever I can to give her a carefree life.

Thank you for your responses in advance,

A terrified father

How do you go about determining what triggers you?

Not GERD, but LPRD patient here. (Along with asthmafor which I take Sympbicort puffs - 2 puffs, twice a day).

I had my first flare up 8 months, it lasted almost 2 months. Swallowing anything felt like I was swallowing thorns. Super painful. They found a Jackson's Ulcer on my vocal chord as well which explained why it stung to talk.

Tightening up my diet (high fiber, no booze, general healthy eating) and sleeping on an incline + PPIs helped. All symptoms went away for 6 months and I went back to my 'normal' dietary habits.

Now it's back again. Sickness seems to be a trigger it (kid is running a flu and I might have caught some of that. Plus my first episode was after a bout of sickness as well).

I'm definitely going to stick to a restricted diet for at least 3 months this time, but how on earth does one narrow down their food triggers in a case like this. The last 6 months I've been eating everything and nothing triggered immediately.

Lastly, could my asthma medication be a contributing factor to this?

Failed hearing screening and ABR test in both ears.

My 10 day old premie (born at 37 weeks) baby girl failed her hospital screening. 8 days after she went in for an ABR test which she has also failed.

She is being called in for a more comprehensive 3hr test to determine the cause of the hearing loss.

Prior to the ABR my pediatrician felt it was fluid / debris in her ear (my wife did have an excess of amniotic fluid).

We have noticed she startles occasionally to very large, sudden sounds (I can see her eyes wince when this happens).

Has anyone else also been through this? What were your outcomes? Are there any chances of my baby girl having normal hearing and these results be a consequence of fluid in the ear?

Kind regards,

A terrified father

Failed hearing screening

My baby girl is 2 days old and has failed her hearing screening in both ears. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd like to hear about what it's like to raise a child with hearing loss. Or cases of where it's corrected itself.

Kind regards,

Terrified father.
