Contract temp roles

It’s been 17 months since I was laid off from my business analyst role at an asset management firm. Looking to get back into the industry - currently doing a master of analytics at Georgia tech in the mean time but want to get work experience while doing my masters. Looking for contract temp roles to get myself back into the industry if would be great of these roles involved use of data analytics tools but I know if not I will have to take what I can get. Hopefully can use my position as a temp to market myself better for a full time role. Any suggestions have submitted my resume to landing point, temp positions, beacon hill already - multiple times - not one of their recruiters has gotten back to me. I get some DMs from random recruiters here and there but never a turn over into an interview.

Non-Technical Background OMSA

Hello,

I am starting CSE6040 Computing for Data Analytics this fall as my first class I have been using the Computing in Python edX course to prepare (i only audit the course) and getting more live practice from YouTube videos, CodeWars, and using my notes from the class to feed Claude so they can also make coding practice for me. I see so many people here discuss how difficult it is. I have a nontechnical background, but I have always done well in math, and currently tutor pre-calc. I also have experience with SQL BUT I do not know how to do complex joins I would say I am intermediate. I don't mind paying for a tutor and studying extra to make sure I get an A, but the posts I'm seeing kinda scare me!! I am only taking this class and will be doing some review of R (or open to any other topics I should review) before my spring semester. Any tips? Ideas? Please be aimed at helping me succeed.

resume help

Hello! Posting my resume here for help as well as any leads on roles I could apply to :), been job hunting for almost 2 years now and really really need some leads as my interviews have dried up. I have interviewed at JPM, Capital One, DoorDash and soooo many more so far but no offers looking for help or guidance. I also used AI to anonymize my resume so some of the content may be oddly formatted - looking for leads, advice on roles to apply for or types, advice on what to do next etc.

Pissed

I was recently removed from a hiring process at capital one (interview scheduled) because I don’t have a STEM degree the recruiter and a hiring manager told me how much my resume aligns so strongly with the role - it was a Business Analyst role. And a couple days ago I received an email asking did I have an additional major and I say no - I assume they are asking to see what other skillsets I have. I took a pretty heavy amount of quant coursework because I was an economics minor but I dropped it my 4th year because it was going to push back my graduation date and didn’t think it would really impact my opportunities….boy was I wrong. That was my only interview in almost 6 months. I’ve done everything. I’ve looked for contracts. I work as a fuck ass teacher which I fucking hate. My career has been on pause for almost 2 years - I’ve been laid off 17 months and there’s no real clear chance of this ending - honestly at this point teaching may become my new career. Which is pathetic nothing is wrong with teaching but who tf wants to have to settle to teach when that wasn’t their choice? I hate all this shit. I want to quit and pivot elsewhere I’ve lost so much confidence in this corporate game. Fuck the pendulum swinging back and the market improving there’s people out of the wild for 3-4 years. Giving these people my time and waiting is angering me I want to take my time back. Fuck all this stupid shit. The job market is DONE

OMSA No technical Background

Hello! I am going into OMSA with no technical background and wanted help with how to navigate. I am currently taking an edx course on python basics. I am planning to start off with the courses on edx micromasters CSE 6040and ISYE 6501. I know everyone says one class at a time but if I took one class a semester it would take me such a long time I feel like there has to be another way. I have my summers off as a teacher and I have off winter breaks just really trying to use this degree as a way to keep myself active in the business analytics space as I have been laid off for over a year now. This is something I want to do for my career but I also don’t want it to drag on for over 3 years. Any advice on prep?

Laid off

I made a post about 3 months ago about my job hunt

https://www.reddit.com/r/FinancialCareers/s/VHXAsv9IZB

Still currently laid off and I need tips, I’ve done everything interview practice, networking, I have been working as a teacher in the meantime but I feel like being a teacher has made it harder for me to get interviews - I think it’s confused employers about my goals but idk what to do atp. 16 months unemployed with only 3 years of experience feels like such a mark and I’m not sure how I’ll crawl out of this hole. Not sure if this is a sign this career isn’t meant for me but I hate teaching so idk what else to do it’s all very depressing. I hired a career strategist out of desperation but it hasn’t moved the needle much. We’re still working together. So there might be hope but I just feel like I’ve done so much and tried everything idk what else I’d there to give. But if I give up I’ll resent myself

Job offers

Hello for anyone who has been laid off since 2024 how long did it take for you to get a job offer? I’m at 1 year and 3 months with no interviews lined up. Losing hope not sure if it’s too late for me I graduated 4 years ago having a gap this early in my career feels like a mark of death.
