I understand not paying a contractor for days that they take on PTO, but I think that companies should have to cover contractor pay for federal holidays and any company holidays/breaks. Like, my company will be shut down for an entire week over the holidays, where working isn’t even an option, and I don’t have a choice but to take it. If it’s a situation where the company is open and employees can opt to work, I can see that being a different story

Wanted to give everyone a tidbit of hope:

I was miserable in my previous role. Everyone there was severely underpaid, the company was constantly cutting the budget in a way that harmed employee morale, and everyone in my team was being overworked (often 10+ hours of OT per week on second shift). Seeing this and knowing that there was limited opportunity for me to move upwards given the circumstances, I started applying for new roles a few months ago. While my expectations were low given the market, I knew I wouldn’t last in that position for long so it was a move I had to make.

I finally managed to secure a new job in a better location for much better pay (like almost double my previous salary), which I’m starting tomorrow! I’m so excited to begin my new job! I’m not gonna lie, I’m really surprised that I landed this position, its not something I would’ve imagined myself doing just 6 months ago, but now I’m invested in how I can use this role to shape my future opportunities and experiences. It also sounds extremely interesting and the team sounds incredible!!!

I hope that it works out with this company. Even though I already miss my old team (they were the only thing good about that position), I’m so excited to expand my horizons.

Looking for recommendations on gyms that have pools. Not looking to travel too far west of 290 or too far east past 495. Budget isn’t really a concern

I’m signed up to race in Maine this weekend and didn’t realize how much colder the water is there even compared to southern NE. Any tips for surviving a cold water race? I got in just over a mile today in training and was okay but it was a rough adjustment.

Currently, I have a blue seventy sprint wetsuit, ordered a thermal swim cap (if necessary) and I plan on putting something on my face like jelly to help. I’m going to go back to the water tomorrow to get another swim in and hopefully acclimate more. But conditions were rough today with the way the wind was blowing relative to the coastline

I changed to a different SSRI a few weeks ago and I’ve been getting horrible acid reflux and burps since then and they taste like vomit. Does anyone else have this issue? I don’t know what else I could point to that’s causing it except my meds

I currently work for another large pharma company (regarded as one of the best ones to work for) in manufacturing but haven’t had the best experience. So, I’ve been gradually applying to other roles as they get posted. I got a recommendation for Astellas and wanted to know if anyone has worked there before and what the experience is like there?

I tried a Zoot womens wetsuit from Amazon and it ripped way too easily so I contacted the manufacturer and got a return on it. I’ve owned TYR in the past and had good luck with it. Even though it certainly wore down over time, it didn’t rip easily and any spots were easily repaired.

I don’t necessarily do triathlons, only really swimming, but figured this would be a good place to come to for advice. Thank you!

Edit: I have larger hips so that’s why I’m looking for something that doesn’t rip too easily since I usually struggle to get the suit over them, even when I’m wearing the right size and being careful

I’m in the process of getting my first industry offer (bio manufacturing) and was wondering if anyone has advice for negotiating salary? I would like to make slightly more than I did as a contractor in the same role, but I’ve heard multiple people tell me they didn’t get an increase. In this market, I know jobs are hard to come by so I’m grateful for any opportunity, but my current salary barely covers my cost of living considering where this role is located and I’ve gained a master’s degree since I started on contract

I’ve been working nights in manufacturing for 6 months now because it was the only job I could find in this market. However, I’m constantly exhausted and feel like I’m on the verge of breaking down. I can’t take time off cause I’m only on contract and don’t get paid if I do, but I don’t know what else to do. I can’t workout because my body feels horrible, I can’t sleep properly, and I’ve been eating absolutely horribly. Everyone keeps telling me it’ll get better, but it hasn’t.

I want to get a new job that does normal hours, but I can’t find anything (I’ve had a few interviews but no offers). I just don’t know how much longer I can keep going. How do you manage this?
