What’s the right way to prevent dripping water/ moisture damage?

I was just asked to repair the water damage on both sides of the shower at one of the property owners houses. I noticed that the water damage on both sides corresponds to the spot where the bottom of the shower and the top of one of those prefab showers comes together. I told him that I would do the repair obviously but that I’m going to look into options for keeping water from getting on the wall in the first place. You can see in the photos I attach that the drywall repair has already started. I’m not worried about that part of the job, but I’m curious as to whether I could put maybe a bead of silicone caulking into the gap where the water is running

I’ve been doing “Handyman” work for about 2 years now and I feel like I always encounter a new problem or come across a project that requires some creativity and ingenuity. That is one of the things I love about this stuff.
Currently, I’m replacing the cedar siding on the dormers and the chimney on a large log cabin here in the Ozarks.
The puzzle I’m trying to solve is how can I get to the siding that is on the other side of the chimney (you can see how faded it is in pictures) and get to that side of the chimney itself semi safely and without any special equipment or anything?? I’ve screwed some 2 by 4 s into the roof and started making a hillbilly lumber ladder but I’m not sure that I want to do this on the other side where I’m most concerned with access. I figured I’d check with my friends on here and see what you guys would do… thanks in advance and I will document the process, whatever I decide to do, in case someone else has this problem in the future!
