Why is it that some people get damaged vision for looking at an eclipse for 1 second, and yet when I was 7yrs old I stared at the sun for 10 minutes out of spite and have no damage at all?

I didn't blink at all and remember seeing everything purple for the entire day

Is Japan really as bad of a place to live as people describe? Or is it all just an exaggeration? Read below pls

Everytime someone tryies to prove how life in Japan would suck people always point out at two main factors.

First: people in Japan are expected to behave like total calculated npcs with no personality whatsoever, otherwise your life is going to be shitty and miserable

Second: a lot of people there, especially old folks, will be deeply conservative and will expect you to give up your own culture to follow their own, sometimes not ever if you adopt all of japan's traditions they will ever accept you as their own

Things is I am half Chinese and half Italian (My father is Italian and my mother is Chinese), I was born and raised in China and then went here in Italy since when I was 6 yrs old, and people never stopped asking "You must be so relieved to be here huh?", "You must feel a lot more free compared to your own hometown, huh?"

Thing is, I never really felt any difference

Like sure, China and Italy does have pretty different politics and pretty different culture. Like ofcourse Mr. Obvious

But I never felt "unable to speak my own" or "unable to be myself" while in China

I return there every summer to see family members and visit the land and the culture. I am a queer university student now, very outgoing and never had any problems "being myself" turough my growth

I am your classic stereotype of a loud and annoying class-clown-esque kid

And yet I never had any problems in China despite how loud or different or "myself" I am

"People may judge you silently" And? Just let them? Who cares? Not everyone is supposed to be your friend, why is that supposed to be a big deal?

The world is vast and diverse, I will always find people who share the same braincell with me and already had

Also it's not like that isn't an issue everywhere else, Italy is literally seen as one of the most "free" countries by the rest of the world and yet we do have bigots and judgemental people here aswell

Do you honestly think I never faced racism or got told to "be normal" here in Italy? Pffff!!

So I think what I mean in the end is: I got told my whole life that one of my two homelands China is supposed to be an oppressive envirorment where it's very difficult to be yourself, yet I never experiences anything like that and was always free to be myself both in Italy and in China

So because I always felt like people really did exaggerate the social situation in China, that may be the case for Japan aswell. So call me daring, but I feel like if I went to live in Japan I'd have a pretty good time and be totally unbothered by any hate or judgement like I've always been

I know that the main concern may be looking for a job, wich once again I don't think it does make any difference as I am trans, and trust me Italy is no better

But assuming job isn't a problem, let's just imagine I have an awesome "at home" freelance dream job with a constant paycheck

Is Japan really as bad as all the "weeb-bashers" try to insinuate or is it all just an exaggeration?
