Advice needed

Hello, I am looking to get into the ironworker apprenticeship. (Specifically, Local 29) I am 20 years old and have no previous experience in ironwork. I am very very very interested in welding and rigging, and that’s why I am looking at joining.

Certs:
I’m already looking at getting my osha 10/30 and confined space certifications by next month. Is there any other certifications that would make me stand out more?

Past/Current work:
(Past) I did concrete work for a couple months when I was 16. - 3 Months
(Current) I currently work as an installer for a general contractor (office building remodels) - 2 1/2 years
(Current) and a field hand for a structural steel company. (Yes I could learn how to weld here but I’d have to be in the shop which is an 1:30 away, and I’m needed in the field everyday) - 3 Months

- Yes I can pass a drug test
- Yes I can work in any conditions
- Partially afraid of heights but more so the fact that I could fall, not necessarily the height in general. (I know I can do it though)
- Yes I am physically fit
- I would love to travel around, is that normal for ironworkers?
- Should I start buying tools now or wait until I get in? (Most important tools?)

I would love any advice you ironworkers have to give. I know it’s not the most phone or high paying trade but it genuinely looks fun/interesting to me and something I want to do, so please don’t just tell me to go to any other trade and make more money, I’ve heard it 3 billion times. I am looking at going to the hall in a couple of weeks and interviewing.

Thank you in advance for anybody who replies. 🤲

2004 F250 Advice

Hello all, I am looking at buying my first truck and have found this 2004 F250SD Lariat at my grandpas dealership. It has 210k miles which I know is a lot, but it is only $15k, and I am needing to build my credit anyways. It is bone stock with a clean title, I am wondering if this truck is even worth getting at the current mileage it is at. I can get a warranty, and I would be figuring out how to delete it as soon as possible, but is this truck a little too high on mileage to put that much work into it? I’ve also heard so much back and forth about the 6.0 being good and terrible. Please let me know 🙏
