I think I did OK!?

Hello all — new to the thread. Just picked up a ridiculously clean Ruby Red F250 Lariat with only 55k. This is my second long-term truck — my other is a 2020 TRD Pro Tundra, which I found myself absolutely maxing out hauling hardscape materials and project supplies for hobbies. I needed more truck.

First time diesel owner, but I’ve kind of come full circle on Ford. My first car I ever bought with my own money was a used Ruby Red ‘97 Mustang GT (SN95), so the color alone hit me right in the nostalgia.

The purchase story was a little ridiculous.

I found this truck listed at what I thought was a suspiciously good price (about $39,500 OTD), but there were literally no pictures online. None.

A 2015 with only 55k?? At that point I figured the listing probably wasn’t even accurate. The VIN checked out, but you know how that goes. One of the sales guys told me, “it’s a very clean truck”… which of course, that’s what you’d say 😂.

Still, I took the gamble and drove 1.5 hours, 20min north of Baltimore basically sight unseen.

When I got there, the truck was literally sitting on jacks because the Hyundai dealership wasn’t equipped with a heavy-duty lift.

Oh boy… here we go 😂

One of the mechanics, Mike, was super cool and told me he thought he could probably get it done by 6. Sales guy comes back and tells me, “it’ll probably be ready tomorrow.”

I told him, “Man, I’m not leaving here without that truck. I just drove 1.5 hours in traffic — see what you can do.” 😂

At that point I was only able to do a visual inspection, but I told them I was committed barring a clean test drive, so let’s get the paperwork started.

To make sure I got it and didn’t have to make that drive again, I reserved a U-Haul toy hauler same day and planned to use my brand-new F250 — a truck I had literally never driven — to bring the Tundra home. 😂

Of course… even that wasn’t smooth.

After finishing all the paperwork, I realized the ball hitch I had on the Tundra wasn’t rated high enough for the tongue weight, so I had to race to AutoZone about 10 minutes before they closed and grab a properly rated hitch.

Then came loading the truck.

First time loading and strapping down a vehicle by myself, and let’s just say it was a process. I was literally in a shopping center parking lot watching YouTube tie-down videos while working. Took me about an hour because I quadruple-checked every strap and connection. I probably spent about $150 on straps and tie-down gear alone.

Loading a Tundra onto those U-Haul toy hauler rails by yourself is no joke either — got up a little crooked and had to do what felt like a 598-point turn to straighten it out 😂.

Then came the drive home…

The first 20 minutes of that 1.5-hour drive I was nervous as hell. At one point my F250 hit me with a “Trailer Disconnected” warning and my heart absolutely stopped. Jumped out immediately thinking something catastrophic happened, only to realize it was a false alarm. My neighbor has a 2013 F350 and had warned me those alerts can do that, but that didn’t stop the panic.

After about 20 minutes I finally settled in… and then had another mini heart attack because I literally forgot the truck was even back there for a second and hit a rough stretch through DC toward 295 with the trailer bouncing all over those garbage roads 😂.

By the time I got up the next morning I had already spent like 85 hours researching diesel additives, CCV routing , weight loss methods, diesel ownership, and I already have an S&S DPK sitting on the shelf waiting for install.

And honestly… why ain’t nobody tell me about this damn grenade sitting in the valley 😂. All good.

Plans for the truck are pretty much OEM+ reliability and longevity:

- S&S DPK
- Better oil filtration (insane)
- Charge pipes / intake
- Possibly bypass oil filtration
- Better monitoring / gauges (Banks)
- A few tasteful OEM+ touches (nothing crazy)
- Cab lights, have up fitter switches Factory installed
- Apple Car play, thinking a Sony ax6000, but seems old already. I just want something that fits in the factory location not a huge fan of the floating displays.
- Husky Mats
- Backup and work
lights (not sure product or method yet.)

Goal is to keep it reliable, make it tow and haul better, and slowly build it into a long-term truck.

Looking forward to learning from you guys — first diesel, first real Ford truck in a long time.

oh, truck was one owner and serviced at same dealership its entire service. Clean car fax.

Having some weird problems recently with the stock turbo. On startup I cannot hear the turbo whistle from the exhaust. My map and baro are identical, also just changed the ebp sensor. I noticed that when you start to drive after it warms up you hear almost like a screech and then you hear the turbo spooling. After that the truck acts normal until it cools down again. I have read about it possibly being a stuck unison ring but wouldn’t that cause it to happen all the time? My boost is reading anywhere from 5-12 psi on normal acceleration and 20-22 wot. Any thoughts?

New Ford Owner F250

I just got this new 2026 7.3l. I replaced my 2015 Tundra 5.7 because we have a 30’ camper and I was worried about pulling it with the Tundra.

Train horn

Anyone mount a train horn and keep your spare tire? I'm looking to see where you mounted the compressor, tank and horns.

New to me, 2017 6.2L

2017 XLT with 40k miles. I’ve only ever driven Ford’s or Tacomas and this is my first SD. But I needed something with some bones for hauling materials for my sport court business. I’m pretty excited about it, I was shooting for a 7.3l but I got the best deal and the most for my trade with this one. Anything I need to know in particular about the 6.2’s?

Looking at a camper

So I’m slightly ignorant when it comes to hauling with my truck( 17 f250 w/ 6.7) 4 door short bed. So I’ve never really worried about weight with things I’ve hauled in the past mostly single car trailers and a few skid steers but, Ive come into my mind I’d partially like to travel for work and Id like to get a camper to live out of. So, my question is, is there a max weight for these trucks would airbags be necessary for a 5th wheel? Like I know your really just kinda limited with the brakes as far as being able to stop the load but what’s to big or to much for the truck to handle? Thanks for the help!

Buying a 6.7 for the reliability and not towing capacity??

I'm needing a new truck, and the market is kind of shit with what is available. Truck's whole purpose would be long trips with boats, and likely some without. Boats aren't big boats, easily pulled with a 1/2 ton truck. Talking like 5k lbs max.
Chevy and Dodge aren't even in the discussion. New tundra zero chance as well. So I'm left with 3 options: 2nd gen Tundra, F150, or F250. Tundra has the reliability, but to get a nice one under 150k miles, it's 40k. F150 not as reliable but easier to find, prices are also pretty high. Last is the 250 with 6.7, which can be had used for just a little more than the Tundra or F150.

In my searching, seems 45ish can get you a 6.7 with around 100k miles. What's the longevity on these things with normal maintenance and no big repairs? Everyone in the Facebook groups praises the reliability, but they are changing trucks every 5 years. Saying stuff like "30k miles without issue", like that's some sort of achievement. I'm interested in 200-300k trouble free miles.

Will a 6.7 with normal maintenance go 300k miles sparing any major repairs and bad luck? Or once you get in the 100k mile range big things start breaking? There will be no lifting, giant tires, 5th wheel pulling, etc. Just towing a small boat 3-10 hours.

Why do people keep bringing up maintenance costs being so high? Oil and fuel filters seems to be about 200 or so in parts. Current gasser truck is almost $100. Add in fuel additives. What else am I missing? I do my own maintenance at home.

I know fuel cost is higher, but MPG is better, and especially towing. Even a 4k lb boat will drop a gasser MPG to 10-12. Seems like the 6.7 will barely notice. I'll probably do 5k miles a year max since it will only be used for towing boat and occasional hardware store. I have a daily driver for work, and current truck will turn into hunting rig.

Am I dreaming thinking a 6.7 will last me 300k miles without issue, and even considering it without the towing capacity need?

Average MPG for the 6.7HO F350?

Hey guys. Looking to see what everyone is averaging MPG wise with their diesel’s. I built and ordered a 2026 F-350 Longbed Lariat with the ultimate package. It just came in a couple days ago.

What are you guys averaging city and highway?

I plan on adding a Carli lift and 38’s here in a couple months however until then I’m really wanting to know what to expect range wise now before doing so. Thanks gents.

I've a 2002 F350 dual battery diesel, doesn't get driven much but is occasionally needed. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive manual "battery" isolator?

Finally lifted it

2025 F350
5” BDS suspension lift w/ new pitman arm nut
37x12.5x20 Falken Wildpeak AT4W.

https://www.jackit.com/bds-2203h-config.html

I paid $600 locally to have the lift installed.

Overall I am happy with it. Day one of having the lift I did order BORA 1/2” hub centric wheel spacers. The tires rub the radius arms when you are fully turned to one side or the other. I’m waiting for them to be made and shipped, can update if anyone wants the info.

I was able to find a couple good YouTube videos and use the Forscan to adjust for bigger tires and tire pressure. So far everything still works without issue. When I got it aligned the tech said I may need to re-calibrate the lane keep but it seems close to when it was factory.

Drawback: I go to a local drive thru car wash and my truck absolutely hits the sign that says 7’3” clearance. I still make it through the actual wash but my cab lights clear with less than an inch. I’ve only done it one time because I don’t want to damage the roof of my truck. I may have to start hand washing. :) lol.

Update: went through the other lane of the car wash and I barely cleared! The other lanes sign must be lower than it should.

Cabin Filter

Purchase new off the lot. Truck has 10k miles on it and never seen a gravel road. Smells funny at start up and I thought (still could be) it was antifreeze so I’m trying to hunt it down. Process of elimination after not seeing any leaks. New cabin filter and here’s the original one. WTH…full of old mouse crap but zero signs of one anywhere!

Questions on reverse level

I have a 2023 f250 equipped with the tremor package. I want to get a leveled look but I’m gonna leave the tires alone. This leads me to a reverse leveling kit. Has anybody done this, any certain kits I should go with, what height should I get ?
