I think I did OK!?

Hello all — new to the thread. Just picked up a ridiculously clean Ruby Red F250 Lariat with only 55k. This is my second long-term truck — my other is a 2020 TRD Pro Tundra, which I found myself absolutely maxing out hauling hardscape materials and project supplies for hobbies. I needed more truck.

First time diesel owner, but I’ve kind of come full circle on Ford. My first car I ever bought with my own money was a used Ruby Red ‘97 Mustang GT (SN95), so the color alone hit me right in the nostalgia.

The purchase story was a little ridiculous.

I found this truck listed at what I thought was a suspiciously good price (about $39,500 OTD), but there were literally no pictures online. None.

A 2015 with only 55k?? At that point I figured the listing probably wasn’t even accurate. The VIN checked out, but you know how that goes. One of the sales guys told me, “it’s a very clean truck”… which of course, that’s what you’d say 😂.

Still, I took the gamble and drove 1.5 hours, 20min north of Baltimore basically sight unseen.

When I got there, the truck was literally sitting on jacks because the Hyundai dealership wasn’t equipped with a heavy-duty lift.

Oh boy… here we go 😂

One of the mechanics, Mike, was super cool and told me he thought he could probably get it done by 6. Sales guy comes back and tells me, “it’ll probably be ready tomorrow.”

I told him, “Man, I’m not leaving here without that truck. I just drove 1.5 hours in traffic — see what you can do.” 😂

At that point I was only able to do a visual inspection, but I told them I was committed barring a clean test drive, so let’s get the paperwork started.

To make sure I got it and didn’t have to make that drive again, I reserved a U-Haul toy hauler same day and planned to use my brand-new F250 — a truck I had literally never driven — to bring the Tundra home. 😂

Of course… even that wasn’t smooth.

After finishing all the paperwork, I realized the ball hitch I had on the Tundra wasn’t rated high enough for the tongue weight, so I had to race to AutoZone about 10 minutes before they closed and grab a properly rated hitch.

Then came loading the truck.

First time loading and strapping down a vehicle by myself, and let’s just say it was a process. I was literally in a shopping center parking lot watching YouTube tie-down videos while working. Took me about an hour because I quadruple-checked every strap and connection. I probably spent about $150 on straps and tie-down gear alone.

Loading a Tundra onto those U-Haul toy hauler rails by yourself is no joke either — got up a little crooked and had to do what felt like a 598-point turn to straighten it out 😂.

Then came the drive home…

The first 20 minutes of that 1.5-hour drive I was nervous as hell. At one point my F250 hit me with a “Trailer Disconnected” warning and my heart absolutely stopped. Jumped out immediately thinking something catastrophic happened, only to realize it was a false alarm. My neighbor has a 2013 F350 and had warned me those alerts can do that, but that didn’t stop the panic.

After about 20 minutes I finally settled in… and then had another mini heart attack because I literally forgot the truck was even back there for a second and hit a rough stretch through DC toward 295 with the trailer bouncing all over those garbage roads 😂.

By the time I got up the next morning I had already spent like 85 hours researching diesel additives, CCV routing , weight loss methods, diesel ownership, and I already have an S&S DPK sitting on the shelf waiting for install.

And honestly… why ain’t nobody tell me about this damn grenade sitting in the valley 😂. All good.

Plans for the truck are pretty much OEM+ reliability and longevity:

- S&S DPK
- Better oil filtration (insane)
- Charge pipes / intake
- Possibly bypass oil filtration
- Better monitoring / gauges (Banks)
- A few tasteful OEM+ touches (nothing crazy)
- Cab lights, have up fitter switches Factory installed
- Apple Car play, thinking a Sony ax6000, but seems old already. I just want something that fits in the factory location not a huge fan of the floating displays.
- Husky Mats
- Backup and work
lights (not sure product or method yet.)

Goal is to keep it reliable, make it tow and haul better, and slowly build it into a long-term truck.

Looking forward to learning from you guys — first diesel, first real Ford truck in a long time.

oh, truck was one owner and serviced at same dealership its entire service. Clean car fax.

Built-in Side Box Steps - Not a Fan

Like it says, I’m really not a fan of the built-in side box steps that come on the new SuperDuty trucks. Does anyone know if these can be deleted when ordering a new truck?

Anybody else’s 7.3 gas do a single big “shake” when you start it up?

Brand new 2026 7.3L F-350 CCSB, XLT with the 7.3 engine. I just came from a 2013 Powerstroke which is also a big engine but I don’t really have much truck experience other than that.

I noticed when I start it up, the whole truck basically rolls a degree or two as the engine turns over and then settles instantly to be really smooth. I didn’t think much of it but I decided to look it up and I haven’t really seen anyone else talk about this. My 6.7L definitely didn’t do it as dramatically.

Any other 7.3 owners notice this?

I know understand why people daily pickup trucks in America.

Lol, so when I first came to the US 5 years ago as a 15 year old I never understood why people who are not towing anything would be daily driving pickup trucks. I mean it made no sense, a lot of money for gas and maintenances. Maybe if you lived in Alaska and had to drive through snow constantly but in living in Florida or Texas it made no sense UNTIL NOW.

Yesterday was my second day of my internship and everything was going well until we had to go out into the field and drive an F-250. As a passenger it still made no sense UNTIL they let me drive. OMG, I completely understand it now. The comfort was unmatched, how high the truck was, the way the engine roared it reminded me of back home where we used to drive Land-Cruisers.

As soon I finish college, and get a good paying job I am sure my first actual car is going to be a Ford or a Chevy guaranteed.

Any Particular Upgrades To Keep Transmission Temps Down?

Wondering how much of a difference a deeper pan or external cooler make? Is one better than the other? Any other add ons to keep temps down?

Going from 6 to 2 cup holders in the front seat, need to help wife find solutions…

Finally sold my problematic 2013 Lariat with center console for a 2026 XLT with a bench. Before we take it on its first towing outing, I’m realizing my wife is going to have a hard time dealing with “only” 2 cup holders in the fold down bench, where we used to have 4 near the radio and 2 near the rear seat in the center console. Kids are in car seats in the back where we’ll hand them different things, plus coffees, waters, etc.

I found a couple ideas online related to replacing the headrest with a couple cup holders on metal poles, or maybe a little thing on the floor. There doesn’t seem to be any really good slam dunks for how to add more, they all seem compromised in some way. What have folks done to try and add a couple more cup holders in a secure way?

New to me, 2017 6.2L

2017 XLT with 40k miles. I’ve only ever driven Ford’s or Tacomas and this is my first SD. But I needed something with some bones for hauling materials for my sport court business. I’m pretty excited about it, I was shooting for a 7.3l but I got the best deal and the most for my trade with this one. Anything I need to know in particular about the 6.2’s?

Manual regen while driving?

22 f350. I have forscan. Is there a way I can force a manual regen while I’m driving? I’d like to load my trailer and hop on the freeway and force a regen at 80mph. Is this possible?

I know I can do a parked regen, but I think a freeway-speed regen would be better for the DPF.

Thoughts?

2025 F350 Leveling Kit Fitment

I bought a new F350 Platinum that I want to lift/level just enough to run 37" tire. Looking at 20x9 rims with 37x12.5 tires. I have called a few shops and get conflicting options. I am looking at the readylift 2.5 with the 3.3 shocks. The shop says it fits but everything online says it doesn't.

Is anyone running this kit? If not what are you running to fit this setup? Did you need radius arms with that kit also?

I've a 2002 F350 dual battery diesel, doesn't get driven much but is occasionally needed. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive manual "battery" isolator?

Down hill assist

I noticed my center console doesn't have the down hill assist button but it has the exhaust brake. 2026 f450, is it standard?

Hitch and trailer brakes

Got a 2022 6.7. So just got a new B&W hitch and for some reason my trailer brake on my dump trailer and gain stopped working but when I put on the old hitch everything works fine. Any suggestions? Could it be wiring on the truck?

F350 trailer camera system

Finally got a chance to get into a 2022 F350 Lariat ultimate that I am using for work and play.

I have a 29' travel trailer that I park in the back ally behind my house, and it is tricky to maneuver because of tight turns through the narrow alley, so I would like to install a rear trailer system eventually.

I know the newer words have systems that can be installed to work with the infotainment screen that show the rear camera and TPMS, is this something I can add to my year of truck?

Any recommendations on how to go about doing it or what to look for or add?

Parts compatibility

Hello digital friends! I just acquired an 03 xlt f350, and I have an 05 xlt f350 for parts. Both with 6.0s

The parts truck has keyless entry and auto headlights. Anyone think I have any hope of making them fit the 03 truck? I’d also love to swap the integrated trailer brake control and upfitter switches, but I figure that’s an even longer shot…. I know for that I’d have to swap the dash panel.

Open to ideas! Once I get the motor bulletproofed, I’d like to swap the comforts if possible. It’s just a farm truck, but it would be nice if it was a nice farm truck.
