Help me with my problem before I request a return

Recently built a brand new PC. Had very bad instability first time using it, turned on x3d mode and this seemed to help majorly. After some instability still I decided to test the ram out. Both sticks show no errors when running individually but errors show up when both sticks are in. The errors are brought up when doing the CPU+RAM test on OCCT, it says “errors) Found on physical core 80 - logical core #0”. Luckily I have another PC to test these in, and I found that they work perfectly fine.

It seems the CPU is the issue. Before I request a return is there anything I’m missing which can fix this issue? Should I run memtest86 just to be sure it’s not the ram? From what I understand memtest86 tests the ram and no other component makes a difference to its results, correct?

Specs incase they’re important

9070xt power color reaper
Msi pro b840m-p
1tb gen 3 ssd
Corsair vengeance 5600 cl36 2x16

Opinion on an issue with my 7800XT

I bought it used a few months ago.

Before doing so I upgraded my mobo CPU and ram, MOBO had a missing pin but still worked fine. I used the new MOBO etc. with a 5070 and maybe a 6800xt, both worked fine.

On using the 7800xt with the same setup as the 5070, I noticed I had some minor issues, like driver errors, maybe a single flash of black on my screen (this might’ve not happened I can’t remember all too well.), just general issues which didn’t bother me too much, I put them down to AMD instability.

At some point, I’m not sure if this was before or after I had these minor issues I just mentioned, I updated my GPU drivers and i noticed that the issue got a little worse/more prominent or the the minor issues had just started. Again, can’t remember exactly what happened.

Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve been experienced driver crashes much more frequently, usually when not doing anything demanding - Eg. Opening steam and repeatedly crashing, then it being fine again after a while or a restart. Some crashes in GTA but my friend had these issues to with his 7000 card in GTA.

Over the last few days, these driver crashes have continued as normal, with 2 leading to my computer being frozen and having to long press the power button to switch off. Both times on starting my computer everything seemed normal until I realise that the GPU drivers seem to have been uninstalled - when I open adrenaline it says I need to install the latest version of the software, I click ok and it goes to install but just repeats the same thing and over and over. DDU and driver reinstall gets everything back to normal after one of those freezes.

One of those freezes was today, and I noticed some artefacting on the frozen screen. I’ll see if I can upload a picture. That’s the only time I’ve seen artefacting.

The GPU was bought used.

I believe that’s all there is to know.

The fact the artefacting happened as the PC crashed and the drivers uninstalled makes me think the artefacting was a driver issue and not hardware.

The SSD has also been swapped motherboards and a few different GPUs, maybe some of the drivers haven’t been fully wiped or something and it’s causing this. I’ll do a full reset if it comes to it. I’ve also had some WiFi issues and some research said it could be some leftover drivers so I thought it could apply here aswell, even if I’m using DDU.

I do have another m GPU I can test in this rig, so I guess that could rule out the motherboard or anything else. I’ll soon have another PC I can test the 7800xt in to see if it has the same issues there. Then we have our answer, but for now I want to hear what you think it might be?

Thanks for your time.

Help diagnose my problem?

I bought a used MOBO, seller said it had 1 pin bent/missing but still working. On arrival it had 2 missing/bent. Seller didn’t take a picture of this as they still had a cpu installed to the MOBO.

I installed the CPU, took it out and noticed the bent pin on the bottom was bent which what looked like back to normal.

Upon getting it ready to power on, being installing the cpu, ram, ssd (which was pulled straight from my old setup e.g. no wipe), plugging in the MOBO and CPU connectors to the PSU, F-Panel, It turned on and showed these debug lights: CPU DRAM CPU DRAM, with the first 3 being in quick succession and the DRAM light then stayed switched on. No post, monitor was plugged in.

CPU and ram are new, both look to be undamaged, I’m using a new to me PSU, it is very old however I don’t think this would cause a problem like this.

The obvious answer is that the socket is damaged and that 2nd pin being damaged rendered it useless, however I can also think of 2 unlikely scenarios which are the SSD being taken straight out my old setup and into this without being wiped, but I understand this to not be an issue. Also, the 8 pin cpu header is plugged in but the 4 pin isn’t, but as far as I know this is perfectly fine.

I am also using a 9000 series CPU, so I did update the MOBO bios incase it wasn’t already.

Is there the off chance I’ve messed up my installation processes?
