International student looking for accommodation university + part-time job [Leeds]

Hi everyone!

I’m 21F starting at University of Leeds this September and I’m looking for accommodation recommendations.

> What I’m looking for:
- Budget: £135-£140/week ideally
- Type: En-suite, self-catered preferred
- Location: Close to campus / 15-20 min walk max
- Vibe: Safe, social, and good for international students
> I’ve seen Sentinel Towers on the uni site but it’s a bit over budget at £161+/week.
> Also open to any other recommendations or places to avoid!

Part-time job question:
Should I start applying for part-time jobs before I arrive in the UK, or is it better to wait until I’m there and settled? Any tips for international students on finding jobs in Leeds?

Thanks so much 🙏

Why is Leeds safer than Birmingham — worth paying £6k extra for MSc Business Analytics?

Need advice from people who’ve lived in Birmingham or Leeds.

Offers for MSc Business Analytics, Sept 2026:
University of Birmingham: £20k after £12k scholarship
University of Leeds: £26k after £6k scholarship
Difference: £6k

The issue: My parents think Birmingham is unsafe and want me to pick Leeds. They’re totally fine paying £6k extra for “peace of mind” if Leeds is actually safer.

My questions:

  1. Is Birmingham genuinely more dangerous than Leeds for students? Or is it the same big-city stuff — pickpockets, avoid dodgy areas, don’t walk alone at 2am?
  2. Is £6k actually “buying safety” or am I just paying for my parents’ perception?
  3. Is Leeds more valuable than Birmingham back in India?
    > Deadline for Birmingham is 30th June. Really need honest takes from people who’ve been there, not just crime stats.

Leeds vs Birmingham for MSc Business Analytics 2026

I’m an Indian student with offers for MSc Business Analytics for Sept 2026 intake and I’m really confused about which university to pick.

I have an offer from University of Leeds with a £6,000 Scholarship, which brings my tuition down from £32,000 to £26,000.

My second offer is from University of Birmingham with a £12,000 scholarship .After the scholarship, tuition is about £20,000, down from £32,000. So Birmingham is basically £6,000 cheaper than Leeds overall. Both are Russell Group unis.

My deadline for Birmingham is 30th June 2026. So now I have to decide if Leeds is worth paying £6k more for, or if I should just take Birmingham and save the money.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who’s studied Business Analytics at Leeds or Birmingham. Is there a big difference in brand value, placements, or ROI between the two that justifies the extra £6k? Parents can manage the extra cost for Leeds if it’s truly worth it, but I don’t want to waste money for just a small difference.

Thanks so much for reading and for any advice.

I’m also still waiting on Bath, but not factoring it in much due to the deadline.

What is the value of a University of Birmingham masters for career in India after PSW ends?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move to the UK for my masters in Fall 2026, and University of Birmingham is my most likely choice right now. QS World Ranking 2026 puts it at #76 globally, and it's part of the Russell Group, so the academic reputation seems solid.

My course is MSc Business Analytics.

My plan:

Use the 2-year Graduate Route/PSW visa to get UK work experience. But I want to be practical about the "what if" scenario - if I have to return to India after PSW due to visa/job market issues, I don't want the degree to feel like a waste.

Main questions:

  1. Value in India: How is a UoB masters perceived by Indian employers, especially MNCs and top startups? Is the Russell Group tag actually recognized by HRs/recruiters here

  2. ROI: Total cost will be ~£35-40k incl. living. If I return to India, what kind of salary packages are realistic for someone with a UK masters + 2 years UK work ex? Does it give any edge over someone with an Indian masters from Tier-1 colleges?

  3. Field-specific: For Business analytics , is UK education valued in India? I’ve heard some fields like finance/tech care more about foreign degrees than others.

  4. Alumni network: How strong is UoB's alumni network in India? Do they help with referrals/jobs back home?

  5. Comparison: How would you compare this vs doing a masters from Tier-1 Indian colleges like IITs/IIMs in terms of long-term career in India?

my_qualifications: BCA from tier 1

Would really appreciate hearing from people who studied in the UK and came back, or recruiters/HRs who hire in India.

Thanks a lot!
