Purple/White 紫白 3.2% 1.9% -40.6%
Other その他 0.2% 0.0% -100.0%

See here for the previous week's results.

Three weekends into the new season and there is still a lot of movement across the spectrum as the meta continues to find its footing.

BG and BP get slight dips in usage as the next three deck colors (GP, BW, RW) scramble for positions in this section.

Looking at Decks

75 NTC events were held in Japan during the week of 10 to 17 August, adding 680 decks to the GD05 database total, which is now at 1,616 decks across 174 events.

JP NTC Week 2 First Place - Win Rate vs Usage Rate (75 Events Total)

JP NTC Week 2 Top 4 - Win Rate vs Usage Rate (75 Events Total)

JP NTC S4 Week 2 Top 1 vs Top 4 Win Rate (75 Events Total)

JP NTC S4 Month-to-Date Top 1 vs Top 4 Win Rate (174 Events Total)

One thing I'd like to note here is how Green/Purple has a high rate of placing in the top 4, but not having the consistency of translating those Top 4 placements to NTC wins.

Looking at Decks: Beta Edition

This week, I'd like to look at the adoption rates of that other set that came out just before GD05: the ST10/EB01 duology.

The entire release cycle of that set has been mired in criticism from the fanbase, who derided (among a plethora of reasons) the multiplayer focus of the cards, its irrelevance in the competitive space, and taking card production away from much-needed reprints of early Starters and Boosters (the last one being more prominent in the English regions). But ultimately it did leave its mark, and the mostly-positive feedback from players' first multiplayer experience brought about by the sets' launch events gives hope that the release wasn't entirely in vain.

But moving on, does the set have any relevance in the current metagame?

Yes... a bit, I guess.

Se below table for current usage share of all EB01 and ST10 cards in the dataset:

Card ID Card Name % Decks Appeared In Average Card Count
EB01-032 Gundam Ez8 High Mobility Custom 5.32% 2.66
EB01-054 Gaplant TR-5 "Hrairoo" Unit 1 3.90% 2.71
EB01-056 Gundam Geminass 01 0.25% 3.50
EB01-081 MAP Weapon 0.06% 3.00
EB01-011 Beginning Gundam 0.06% 4.00
EB01-083 SP Conversion Chips 0.06% 1.00
EB01-085 Kudelia Aina Bernstein & Isaribi 0.06% 1.00
EB01-014 Gouf Vijayanta 0.06% 2.00
EB01-061 Ellis Claude 0.06% 4.00
EB01-016 Tornado Gundam 0.06% 4.00
EB01-036 Darilbalde 0.06% 2.00
EB01-065 Meir Siva 0.06% 1.00
EB01-038 G-Self 0.06% 2.00
EB01-027 Tallgeese 0.06% 3.00
EB01-066 Reiji 0.06% 4.00
EB01-035 Gundam Lfrith Thorn 0.06% 4.00
ST10-005 Nemo 0.06% 4.00
ST10-002 Zeta Gundam 0.06% 3.00

As everyone may have predicted, the only cards with a somewhat significant usage in the current meta are the generic cards: Gundam Ez8 High Mobility Custom Green ReZEL, Gaplant TR-5 "Hrairoo" Unit 1 Second Rick Dias, and Gundam Geminass 01 White ReZEL. There are also a couple decks which each teched in two EB01 Commands (MAP Weapon and SP Conversion Chips).

But even then, usage of these Units are further hampered by Green aggro wanting Kayra's ReGZ and/or Jegan to join Rick dom in the Lv3 slot, and White... just not seeing much usage this set (as well as the Rick Dias statline continuing to be sidelined in favor of FLAT/Lfrith).

But what about the rest of the cards? Glad you asked, because that was what brought my interest to this topic in the first place. Starting yesterday, there were news that some guy got 2nd at an NTC while using an EB01 deck... and sure enough, it's true!

I do hope that I can get back to posting these things on Monday/early Tuesday (especially since I had most of the data prepared by Monday afternoon), so at least I'm on the right track this week.

Japanese Newtype Challenge 2026 Mission 4/Store Area Qualifiers Season 1 Deck Distribution for the week ending 09 August has been released!

Color Combo Kanji 2-Aug 9-Aug Week-on-Week % Change
Blue/Green 青緑 35.5% 30.3% -14.6%
Blue/Purple 青紫 12.7% 16.2% 27.6%
Green/Purple 緑紫 4.8% 11.1% 131.3%
Red/White 赤白 10.5% 10.5% 0.0%
Blue/White 青白 17.5% 10.2% -41.7%
Blue/Red 青赤 7.5% 7.8% 4.0%
Green/White 緑白 3.1% 4.6% 48.4%
Purple/White 紫白 2.6% 3.2% 23.1%
Red/Purple 赤紫 3.1% 3.0% -3.2%
Green/Red 緑赤 1.8% 2.9% 61.1%
Other その他 0.9% 0.2% -77.8%

As we enter the second week of a GD05-flavored meta, we are still far from a stable position, with deck colors shooting up and down the ranks all around.

Despite a five-percentage-point reduction from last weekend, Blue/Green remains in the top spot, even as other colors begin stocking up on Argamas and 6HP Bases to go up against the almighty Nu (among other countermeasures).

Blue/White takes a dip this week, going down from second place to fifth, with Ol' Reliable ^((though some might say Ol' Detestable)) Blue/Purple taking the spot. There still seems to be a three-way tussle between it and the other Blue decks (i.e Blue/White and Blue/Red) as to which would emerge as the preferred engine to get Strike Freedom going in Full Burst blazing, and we'll see later how these three stack up in terms of win rates.

Coming up from sixth place last week (and the bottom of the barrel from the previous meta), Purple/Green is shaping up to be the preferred hyper-aggro build, with Mika and Green Char being supplemented by Purple Char for some ping-y High Maneuver-y action.

Red/White continues to fly in the fourth-place colored sky it has been in since last week, a mix between new kid in the block MF and the old guard of Justice Blockers.

As mentioned earlier, Blue/White and Blue/Red complete the figurative infographic podium. Blue White seems to have several competing strategies for making Strike Freedom work: going wide with League Militaire, and hunkering down with double Kiras (though certain Orb builds have emerged that makes full use of Orb's arsenal and goes on the offensive early on). Blue/Red on the other hand continues to be a ping-slinging menace, going lean on Units and Pilots and using ping commands to control the board while waiting for the big Unit drops starting Turn 5 and going until Turn 8.

Green/White and Purple/White have fallen down from their podium positions in the previous meta, either because the support the main decks using the colors got from GD05 wasn't quite up to snuff (Wing/Academy/Minerva) or because Airframe Seizure opened the possibilities of using Red as the secondary color for these (especially for Academy and Minerva).

However, despite increased interest in these combos, Red/Purple and Green/Red have stayed at the bottom of the charts, which probably especially sucks for CB users.

Looking at Decks

(Note that for this section I'm comparing the win rates from August 1 to 9 with usage rates as shown above (i.e from August 3 to 9))

99 NTC events were held between 01 and 09 August, giving us a total of 936 decks to work with.

JP NTC S4 Week 1 First Place - Win Rate vs Usage Rate

JP NTC S4 Week 1 Top 4 - Win Rate vs Usage Rate

JP NTC S4 Week 1 Top 1 vs Top 4 - Win Rate vs Usage Rate

Looking at Decks: Beta Edition

This is where I usually put in any unusual trends I notice (or just anything outside the normal analysis as shown above). The last time I had anything here was a look at monocolor decks in the dataset, and so far we only have one: a mono-Purple build from player SHO which placed 7th.

I'm taking suggestions for any off-beat analysis you want with the current dataset for next week, so comment away I guess?
