I have a question if its worth for me to look into talking to my parents about getting one...?
Hi, I'm 15F and have been considering a psychiatric service for DPT, orbit, tactile stimulation, and behavior interruption (I looked it up so I could remember what they were called). I have (at the current moment undiagnosed) anxiety, mainly in the form of social anxiety. I'm in online school, but in a year I will be going into running start. I have daily church classes and tend to have anxiety attacks there... at one point, my parents started waking up in an attack... or overstimulation... causing me to get limited sleep at that point... my parents are divorced, and I go back and forth between their houses every other week, which would make having a service dog... hard for it. I've found I'm always at around a 3 of anxiety and have gotten used to the slight stomach aches... my feet or knees never stopping moving (from the fight-or-flight response, I believe).
I own a few Comfort plushies I bring places because I've found the texture and sensation of petting fur has helped, but it definitely doesn't fix it.
This is me asking anyone willing to ask questions or willing to look into their experiences to help me know if I should look into getting one or not. I don't want to tell people, "I'm looking into a service dog" or "I was wondering if a service dog could help me in the future," if it's really not something that would be a good idea to look into. (I'm saying in the future because if my parents somehow agreed... I'd be paying for it, and I'm not in the position of a job until half a year, so this would most likely happen when I'm 17-18.)
I tried to be very careful with my wording, because people already don't deny access to this community, and I don't want to say things that would effect it in a worse way.. which is why i'm asking people in the comunity.
questions about service dogs
i’ve seen SD ‘advertised’ (idk what the right word is) for ADHD. I myself have severe ADHD but i do NOT think i need a service dog to help me manage it due to medications. What exactly would a service dog do for someone with ADHD. I’m just genuinely curious and i hope this is the right place to ask something like that.
Unexplained yipping correction
I’ve had my GSD Czech working line for about 3.5 years. He was trained out on property, and I too lived out in the woods. For the last year I’ve lived in the city; he’s highly socialized. Where I go he goes. Just this past month I’ve noticed a change in behavior that I know I’ve caused but I don’t know how to fix.
- it started when a larger man was stretching a way that to an animal looked quite aggressive. ( imagine arms spread out as wide as possible and then hunched on his knees like he’s going to lunge)
He began growing and let out a yip.
-I figured it was just a bizarre animal instinct
-Just the past month he has started letting out yip or barks. At someone openings door into my room that I’m in.
-then again when someone when someone clearly walked up wanting to touch him.
Just yesterday he did it to someone in the gym who knows him and I both very well… but they weren’t trying to let him, they just got close to both of us to start conversation. I think he wasn’t paying attention and it spooked him…but still it’s becoming a pattern.
-I mentioned the city specifically because when waking down town and people in drugs approach us he doesn’t like it and I also stiffen up… in-Fact I have encouraged a bark when the person felt dangerous Normal people have never been a problem, public spaces are still not a problem.
-but the occasional yip he’s learned is effective to keep people away and I’m trying to catch it before it gains anymore traction.

service dog in work settings
hello, I was wondering what kind of luck you all have been having in finding a job that would allow your service dog to be brought to work? what kind of jobs are out there, and how would one go about getting a first time recommendation for a service dog or ESA.
thanks in advance!
How to bring emotional service dog to Japan
I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Next year I am planning to relocate to Japan. I want to bring my standard puddle with me. What documents to get for my dog to recognize her as a service dog? I’m not sure if she will be an emotional support animal or PSD (Psychiatric Service Dogs). She never been at any training before, but she helps me a lot with my diagnosis. How much cost to bring a large (she is a big girl) service dog to Japan? Will I be able to sit with her or she will be separated? How much I have to pay in Japan for quarantine for a service dog?
1 million views for this
constantly reuses the same footage and whole body is never in full view so who knows, might be luring the cat with treats. Also, why are you giving a cat prebagged food that already has labels to find allergens?

ignoring the dog at the dog park, why does a SD need to climb a picnic table?
How can they call it a service dog if it eats crap out of the garbage? "POSITIVE TRAINING ONLY" yea, that's clearly going so well for them. Their dog has 0 discipline. The dog would 100% understand if they just yelled at it.
Do you think 16 is too young to have a service dog?
I really feel like I need one for my autism but my parents think I'm too young and should wait. The arguméts they make are somewhat understandable but the main one bothers me because it's "What if you get bored of having a service dog?" which like??? It’s the one tjing that will give me my autonomy back, wdym get bored? It's not a toy, it’s a living being that I will most likely love more than myself
Edit because why are people downvoting my comment where I thank people for answering my question and helping?? Educate me or talk instead of hiding behind a silly little button
Would a service dog help with narcolepsy?
I think I would greatly benefit from a service dog to help me with my narcolepsy. A service dog would be able to be trained to respond to my alarms to wake up me. I would also benefit from other tasks that a service dog is able to do such as bring my medication in the morning and turning on the light or taking off the covers. This would make a huge positive impact in my life. This would also let me be more independent which is something that is very important to me. The service dog is also able to help me outside of the house such as preventing sleep episodes by doing actions such as licking. The service dog is also able to help with hypnogogic hallucinations by conforming that it is a hallucination, which are mostly auditory but are of people.
I think a service dog would be able to help me with somethings that medication is unable to do and also decrease my dependency on medication. I also am wary to medication due to having a relative who also has narcolepsy and has bad reactions to medication.
there is also an area near me who offers service dogs for free so I plan on going through them if possible.
does anyone else have a service dog for narcolepsy? if so what is it like, both good and bad? how hard is it? what changed? how did the process go?
I swear, some people don't vest their dog just to start arguments, then spout off laws they don't even understand. This idiot brought an SDiT to a fair just to show her kids her ribbons, despite MI law only granting SDiTs PA access while actively training.

What books should I pick up for my SDIT?
This is my first post on Reddit so go easy on me.
My service dog in training is an intact female 8 month old chihuahua lab husky mix, she is my first dog and a bit of a handful. I want her to be a psychiatric service dog as I have bipolar 2 and possibly autism (in the process of getting that diagnosis). She doesn’t like people much, especially men, but loves dogs. She is a natural at emotional support, and knows some basic commands. But I’ve been really struggling with understanding how to get her to do certain things like heeling and keeping focus, and atp I’m tired of trying to watch video tutorials on how to help her. I want a book that spells out exactly the steps I need to do to get her to a point where she’s ready for public access.
She has a rough background, I got her for free and the people who allowed her to be born kept her locked in a medium sized crate with two other puppies and an adult dog until she was 16 weeks old before they finally gave her to me after I had to fight tooth and nail, so she has a lot of trauma from this. I wasn’t able to socialize her properly but she has made a huge amount of progress in her reactivity already. I got her specifically to be a service dog, and I have to prove to my apartments that she is task trained eventually. So I’m in a bit of a time crunch to get her trained. I don’t expect her to be the kind of service dog to work 8 hours a day, but I would like to be able to take her into a store while I shop for an hour or less. A lot of her issues behaviorally are definitely environmental, she has a lot of potential and I genuinely think she has a future being my temporary service dog until I can afford a well bred purebred from an ethical breeder. After that she will be a home buddy and just spend her days chilling out and being spoiled.
If anyone has books to recommend, specifically ones I can get from Amazon, I would really appreciate it. I’ve looked into “a service dog training guide” by Jennifer hack, but the reviews say it’s a bunch of common sense and suggestions, and less actual training instructions. I’ve trained a dog before, I know common sense around dog training, so I need something more in depth. Thanks in advance y’all.
