Looking at a 2022/2023 approved used cupra born

hi all, looking at pucking up and approved used v1 cupra born probably 2022/2023

they look to be in the region of 15-17k.

i am seeing online some issues they have sometimes had and wanted to understand how big the problems are.

  1. infotainment. i will only be using carplay, does this alleviate all the issues with the infotainment?

  2. remote control with the app. i have seen a lot of people have issues with connection, is this still a problem? i like the idea of heating or cooling the car whilst its charging to save some energy but maybe this is more of a nice to have.

  3. 12volt battery. i have seen issues with this discharging and causing issues. is this just an inevitability or is this a genujne issue that they will fix? is it and easy 12v battery swap to fix?

Looking at a 2023 cupra born, any strong opinions?

need something practical but not huge.

looked at the id3 but i think the born looks nicer.

2023 models seem to sit between 15-20k (dont need the long range).

has anyone got one and any opinions on it after all the ota updates etc? also hows the rear wheel drive? that worries me slightly with so much torque available.

After lots of going back and forth I finally upgraded from a 1st Gen 11inch iPad Pro (you know the first to get the magnetic pencil and usb-c) to an M5 IPad Pro. I went back and forth on this for a while and thought I would share my experience so far for those in a similar boat.

The old iPad

First and foremost I have to say the iPad Pro 11 inch with A12X chip was insanely good. I bought it at release and have used it almost daily for the last almost 8 years. It could still do what I asked it to do even today but it was slowing down in certain places and I decided to finally pull the Trigger. Let’s go through the differences I have noticed to help others decide on whether the upgrade is worth it.

Processing Power

Wow this is a major change. The old iPad would struggle with opening store pages with lots of pictures and items per page, this ipad breezes through everything. It is to be expected of course but the performance jump is very noticeable.

The Screen

The screen colours are improved but it isn’t crazy. Of course the deep blacks when the content is right look better than on the old ipad, and using the iPad in bed which is when I often use it for reading it can be very very noticeable in terms of being less taxing on the eyes etc. I mainly remained pro for the 120hz screen and it is a real joy to use still, a shame the air hasn’t at least got a 90hz update.

The Pencil

Tbh I am a bit miffed that I had to buy a new pencil for this. I know it has new features like hover etc but the apps I use don’t really make best use of the new features I really like the little vibrate on double tap as with the old one I would always need to watch the UI on the iPad to make sure the double tap had registered but I don’t think it is really an upgrade over the last gen of pencil, feels like a version 1.1.

Battery Life

This has surprised me, my old iPad was on about 80% battery health (yeah somehow it had only gotten to 80% after 7-8 years) and I would say its battery life on that percentage was only marginally worse than the new iPad Pro battery life. I don’t know if it is the newest version of ipadOS and Liquid Glass causing the M5 to be pulling more wattage even at low level tasks. Battery life is still good but I did see some reviews online about the iPad warming up and battery life issues and I think the current software and hardware mix here isn’t doing its best in this department.

Using as a laptop

Now for me my tablet will never be a laptop replacement, I have an mba and mbp for work. But I would sometimes have my iPad to the side and pull my mouse over to it from my work computer if I wanted to quickly do some personal googling and the old iPad was a bit sluggish for this. Right now I am writing this on my ipad pro m5 and it just feels like a normal computer that is kinda crazy. Obviously i’m not going to be running pycharm etc on it but for it to just be a sidecar to my laptop and let me use full safari at the speed of my MacBook is really nice.

Overall

I’m glad to have made the upgrade and I hope this helps others thinking about the update. For me it is mainly the performance, I probably wouldn’t upgrade just for the tandem OLED etc unless my use case was really going to depend on it. I hope this post is helpful and happy to answer any other questions.
