West side vet that you truly trust, is responsive, and will get you in on short notice?

I don’t care about price at this point. For the second time in my dogs short life I have taken him into the vet (two different ones), been told it was nothing and given nothing, had follow ups ignored, and landed in the ER in the middle of the night fearful for his life. This time it was pneumonia. I went in for the cough (through the Er vets primary care department that I switched to after issues with my last vet) less than a week prior and was told it would go away on its own. Well it didn’t go away on its own. It turned into pneumonia and required an overnight stay in the ICU where he was placed on oxygen.

Five days and no one has given me an update on his lab results either. They also finally responded today about coming in for his follow up X-rays to see if the treatment is working and say they can’t fit us in until next Thursday but they’ll “keep us in mind”. We can’t afford to wait that long to simply know if the antibiotics are working. My entire life is on hold because I’m terrified to leave him alone. I start a new job the following Monday and can’t afford to do this all over again if he needs a different treatment or antibiotics.

I just want a vet that I can trust and will actually respond timely rather than taking 5 business days per a single email. I need to get an appointment with the next week too. Anyone have a recommendation they trust?

Are there any urgent care or ER vets that have virtual wait rooms?

The one in Mar Vista appears to be closed and I know my dog is going to be low on the priority list (understandably so) if we go somewhere like west LA animal hospital where they’re dealing with urgent life threatening emergencies. Anyone have a suggestion aside from the one in Mar Vista?

Do you think soul dogs are a real thing? How did you handle losing the dog that was with you through the most difficult times and/or that you connected the strongest with? Were you able to get another dog?

I’ve lost dogs (including my beloved childhood dog I grew up with) before but that connection was so different from what I have with my dog now as an adult and the primary caretaker. I was in such a slump when I adopted him and he changed everything for me. I feel like we’re having an entire conversation when we just stare into each other’s eyes. He’s seen sides of me no human ever has. I can’t imagine what I’ll do without him. I don’t think I ever understood the concept of soul dogs until now. I can’t imagine what I’ll do without him. Even when I go out of down without him I think and worry about him all the time.

Reputable dog care providers in west LA or Westwood area?

I typically send my dog to daycare while I’m at work but he recently developed a cough so I’m keeping him home this week until the cough subsides since it could be contagious (we went to the vet and they said to just monitor and keep him away from other dogs until it goes away). I was able to work from home today to watch him and currently my office is five minutes away so I can just come home around lunch time in these situations if needed. I’m starting a new job in MDR in a few weeks and coming home won’t be an option. Does anyone know of a reputable service I could use that would come to my apartment and stay with him if needed? Have you had good experiences with river or wag? Preference between the two? I hear so many horror stories (but also many positive experiences) about rover that I’m hesitant to use them.

Does anyone have experience with the INclave in Marina del Rey?

Spacious apartments, in unit laundry, pet friendly, central AC, pool, gym, and a pretty decent price for a one bedroom (especially considering it’s nearly 900 sf). Looks too good to be true. Is there a catch? How is it living in MDR (I’m currently in Westwood but starting a new job there in a few weeks)? Is there a different place you recommend that’s dog friendly and has central AC and in unit laundry?

Does anyone know of a dog ambulance type service in LA?

Just wondering what to do if you have a dog too large to carry (like 150+ lbs such as a mastiff, St. Bernard, Great Dane) and they have an emergency that you need to rush them to the ER vet for. Is there a service for this?

Touching moment at the vet today

I was at my vet (which is also a massive ER vet) today with my dog for a minor concern when a woman walked in sobbing holding her dog laying flat in her arms sobbing and saying she had just had a seizure and was unresponsive.

It was so sad and everyone in the waiting room froze. I’ve seen many scared pet owners rush through those doors but this was one of the most traumatic and hit the hardest. Everyone in the waiting room (both dog and cat owners) was watching so intently and clearly so concerned for her and her dog. Multiple other people, some couples and children (some waiting on their own pets who could’ve been in similar situations and others that were there for standard check ups) started crying as well.

It was such a sad but touching moment to see how every single person in that room could empathize with the love she had for her dog, the state of panic she was in, and fear of that being the end for them.

Just want to rant about this because I feel like only pet owners understand what it’s like to lose them and how much they mean to us.

Distinguishing between you’re and your really isn’t that difficult l

Scrolling through TikTok and it blows my mind how many native English speakers use your rather than you’re in their captions. I remember a time not long ago when this would be an embarassing mistake. What happened? Are the kids learning anything in school anymore? Most of these videos are people in their 20s who are too old to not know basic grammar.
