Iced Tea Summer

Iced Tea Summer

So, after replying to a “what tea am I drinking today?” post, I was asked to share the iced tea recipe I’ve been obsessed with all summer—so here goes.

• Make your cold brew. I use an Eigenart Eve brewer, but a large mason jar works too. Add five to six tea bags of fruit tea, or five to six teaspoons of loose tea, and chill for 24 hours.
• Put six to eight black cherries in a mason jar or glass. Fresh if you can afford them, but I use Walmart’s frozen Dark Sweet Cherries.
• Muddle the fruit. If you’re using frozen fruit, microwave it for about a minute first.
• Add the juice of one lemon, or about two teaspoons of concentrated lemon juice.
• Add sweetener to taste. I use four to six packets of Splenda because I like my tea sweet and I’m counting calories, but you can use agave, honey, maple syrup, sugar, Stevia, or whatever you prefer.
• Pour in your cold brew.
• Add ice and a splash of coconut milk.
• Shake your jar and enjoy!

You can use pretty much any combination of fruit tea and fresh or frozen fruit. I’ve been experimenting all summer: pineapple with pineapple green tea, berries with raspberry lemon tea, cherries with jasmine green tea, mango with peach mango tea—the possibilities are endless.

I got the idea from a young woman on YouTube named Abril Murillo, whose channel is Days With Abril. She inspired me to start experimenting, and now I’m slightly obsessed. 😂

Help identify an obscure early ’70s folk song?

Hey, everyone.

I’m trying to identify a song I heard on Canadian radio in the early 1970s (possibly 1971–1973, though it could be a little later). It was sung by a woman with a rich, slightly husky voice and had a plaintive folk-pop feel.

The chorus repeated what I have always remembered as:
“Alberta fiel-l-ds… Alberta fiel-l-ds…”

I’m about 99% sure those are the words, but since it’s been over 50 years, I’m open to the possibility that I’ve misheard them.

I also vaguely remember the word “green” somewhere in the lyrics, and there was a vocal hook that went something like:

“doo doo do, doodoo do, do doodoo do.”

I heard it on the radio in Alberta, so it may have been a Canadian or regional release.

I’ve searched and searched on the internet and haven’t been able to find anything remotely resembling those lyrics.

Hoping that someone out there may have heard it on Alberta radio as well.

Pill Houdini

My elderly boy (17 years) has kitty dementia. It manifests itself with confusion and excessive vocalising, even for a cat who has always been chatty. His vet prescribed gabapentin, and I was congratulating myself on my ability to pill him so successfully. I simply assumed the meds weren’t working that well and was going to ask the vet for something else, but tonight I found his pill stash. He’s been spitting them out when my back is turned with absolutely zero regrets. 🤦‍♀️
