I hope I’m in the right place. Let’s take Toto’s Africa for example. At 1:21 through 1:31 I find it really easy to ”find” other voices and harmonize along with the song. These lines:

There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do,

I bless the rains down in Africa …

But THEN it gets tricky. The next line (’We’re gonna take some time to do the things we never had’) is impossible for me to harmonize with. It does not sound good, I promise.

I’ve always wondered why this is the case. And don’t get hung up on this particular song. It is just an example.

I would love an explanation for this! Just a skill issue? 😄 Or are some keys/notes/tones more difficult to harmonize with? If so, why?

(Sorry for choosing such a silly song and lyrics. I also have no training whatsoever in music/musicality.)

Sorry, long post, but I really want to love this game! Playing on NS2.

Background: I’ve grown up with SNES and Super Mario. Never played N64 though, except for trying it out at a friend’s a couple of times. Also skipped the Wii almost entirely.

Bought Super Mario Galaxy, and love almost everything.

But I have questions… The answers will hopefully make me enjoy it more 🙏

• I don’t quite get the movement. Am playing on controller. Should I be playing with joycons separately instead? If yes, why didn’t I get a warning?? 😄 Is there a good movement tutorial out there? There are also sooooo many times I just don’t understand why wall jumping (for example) suddenly works after not working three times 😭

I also don’t get some parts of the game mechanics.

• Why do I need to go in and out of a galaxy to start a new star mission? Is there a way to just go on with the next star mission in the same go, without being transported back to a dome?

And because I’m on a roll here (😄):

• Should I be concerned about wasting stars? I shoot them out (Zr button) by mistake all the time, and I can’t really decide if that’s just me being dumb, or if it’s bad design. (I mistakenly get confused by A and Zr functions all the time because of stupid FPS games 😑)
• Is there an upside to feeding lumas with stars just at random? Why is this a thing if it doesn’t lead to anything? (Not talking about the times where feeding a luma is part of the storyline of course 😊)

Don’t worry, I do have Super Mario 2D games for my Switch as well, so no need to recommend I give up and try that over 3D games 😇😄

I love the old Super Mario platformers (SNES/Gameboy), but I haven’t had a Nintendo in almost thirty years. Just bought a Switch 2, and now I really want to buy one of the Mario platformers! But there are so many to choose from, and I don’t know which are long/short, which are newer or older.

I have an impression that Odyssey is a classic and maybe the best one?

And Super Mario Maker 2, that looks really fun, right…?

My main criteria are longer over shorter, and fun/challenging gameplay. Newer/older is irrelevant to me.
