I have been agonizing about this decision for days! For context I am a very new sewist, and this is will be my first machine. My budget is $350 at most. I mainly hope to do alterations and sew my own clothes; however I am a guy who wears a good amount of denim and canvas menswear/workwear as well as more standard materials. Would the Janome HD 1000 or 3000 be the worth the extra cost, or is the 1522 adequate for my purposes?

I hope this hasn’t already been asked too frequently. I am a total newbie with sewing (like I sewed my first stitch last week) and I live in an area with plentiful, but expensive beginners classes. Is it worth investing in learning the basics in person, or can I pick up what I need to make my own garments and do alterations online? On the one hand, I would really like to save money, on the other I don’t know if sewing is the kind of hobby where you can pick up bad habits if you don’t learn it correctly the first time.
