Job post

**Stop letting the "Applicant Count" scare you away from your dream job.** 🛑

We’ve all been there: You find a role that aligns perfectly with your skills, your values, and your career goals. You’re excited to apply—until you look down and see:

👉 *“Over 500 applicants”*

Your stomach drops. You assume your resume will just get lost in a black hole, so you close the tab.

**Here is a secret from the other side of the desk: That number is incredibly misleading.**

On many job boards, that count simply tracks how many people *clicked* the "Apply" button, not how many actually finished the process. More importantly, it doesn't tell you how many of those applicants actually meet the core qualifications.

Next time you are job hunting, ignore that vanity metric. Instead, look for **this** information to decide if you should apply:

### 1. The "Date Posted" ⏱️

An opening with 200 applicants posted **2 hours ago** means a massive tidal wave of volume. An opening with 200 applicants posted **3 weeks ago** means the hiring team is likely taking their time, vetting carefully, or hasn't found the right match yet. Early applicants often get the first look, but older listings with high numbers usually mean the door is still wide open.

### 2. Core Skill Alignment (Not a 100% Match) 🎯

Look at the actual requirements. Do you possess the core 70-80% of what they are asking for? If you have a non-linear career path or unique background that brings a fresh perspective to those core needs, **apply**. Recruiters who value resilience and adaptability look past a "perfect on paper" trajectory to find true capability.

### 3. Hiring Manager or Recruiter Insights 👥

Does the posting show who the job poster is?

* If yes, check their profile. What do they care about? What is their team culture like?

* Reach out directly with a brief, personalized note highlighting *why* you're interested. Human connection beats an algorithm every single time.

### 4. Company Growth and Intent 📈

Look at the company’s recent activity. Are they scaling a specific department? Have they recently shared updates about new projects or funding? A company in a genuine growth phase is often looking for multiple people, or will pipeline great talent for upcoming roles even if the current pool is crowded.

**The Bottom Line:**

Job hunting is tough, and it’s easy to let a single, arbitrary number discourage you. But talent acquisition isn't just a numbers game—it's about finding the right synergy between a human being and a team.

Don't self-select out before you even give yourself a chance. If you can do the work and add value, hit apply. Let the hiring team make the decision.

Bet on yourself. 🚀

Title: Laid off from Amazon via a text message while I was sick. The market is brutal right now.

Hey everyone, I just need to vent and maybe get some advice or encouragement because I’m honestly still in shock.

A little while ago, I got laid off from Amazon. What makes it hurt even more is the way it happened. I was actually out sick, dealing with a fever and trying to recover, when my phone buzzed. I opened it expecting a regular notification, but it was a text message essentially saying, "You're terminated."

No phone call from a manager, no face-to-face meeting, no dignity. Just a cold automated text message while I was at my lowest physically. It felt like a massive slap in the face after putting so much time, energy, and effort into the company. I wouldn't wish that feeling on my worst enemy.

Since then, I’ve been hit hard by the reality of the current job market. I’ve been actively looking for work, tailoring my resume, and sending out applications, but it’s incredibly tough out there right now. It feels like you’re shouting into a void half the time.

For anyone else who has gone through an abrupt layoff or is currently stuck in the endless cycle of the job hunt—how are you keeping your sanity? And for those who managed to land something after a rough exit, what kept you going?

Stay strong out there, everyone. No company is worth your health, but man, the stress of the hunt is real.

Happy mothers day to everyone

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, I want to take a moment to recognize all the women out there not just those who gave birth or legally adopted—but every woman who has stepped in, lifted someone up, offered guidance, love, protection, or simply showed up when someone needed it most.

You don’t need to have a child to be a mother. You don’t need a title or paperwork to be a motherly figure.

If you’ve ever nurtured someone, mentored them, cared for them when they couldn’t care for themselves, or reminded them of their worth when they forgot they’ll remember you forever. That makes you extraordinary.

This weekend, I hope every woman who’s ever made a difference in someone’s life feels honored, appreciated, and deeply special.

Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mom.

My 41st birthday is arriving on May 11th just one day after Mother’s Day and I find myself looking back at a life that has often felt very lonely. Even though I have achieved things like a family and a reliable car the truth is that I have spent most of my years feeling like I do not belong anywhere.

I still carry the weight of being the person who was bullied and the person who had their glasses broken while their spirit was being crushed. For a long time I have lived with the ache of feeling invisible or like an outsider looking in. I have sat in offices where I felt small and where my voice did not seem to matter.

As I turn 41 my only real wish is to finally find a workplace that feels like home. I am searching for a group of people who will actually appreciate me for who I am and laugh at my jokes without making me feel like a stranger. I want to be in a place where I am not treated as someone special or different but just as a human being who belongs there.

I am not giving up yet because I believe there is a company out there that will see my value and give me the chance to let my wings grow. I am still waiting for the day when I can finally stop feeling like a shadow and start feeling like I have found my place in the world.
