Schedules

How do you all deal with juggling big decisions or life moments when there are several different schedules to consider? For example: we are getting a puppy soon, but the day we get it, my husband‘s child won’t be at our house and won’t be for an entire week and a half. It feels silly to wait that long to name a puppy, but of course I would love the entire family’s input on this decision. These are the nuanced dynamics of being a blended family that I never thought about before.

I’m hoping someone can help me with the specific language of my decree surrounding weekends extended by a student holiday or teacher in service day. My son has no school on Monday because there are PT conferences so I believe I should drop him off at 6pm. This is the exact language of my decree: “Except as otherwise expressly provided in this Modified Possession Order, if a weekend period of possession by DAD ends on or is immediately followed by a student holiday or a teacher in-service day that falls on a Monday during the regular school term, as determined by the school in which the child is enrolled, or a federal, state, or local holiday that falls on a Monday during the summer months when school is not in session, that weekend period of possession shall end at 6:00 P.M. on that Monday.”

My ex is fighting that parent teacher conferences don’t count as teacher in service days therefore I need to drop him off at 8am as usual. The kids have no school and conferences are all day long.

In your opinion, how often should my ex wife be able to communicate with the kids when they are with me? I have every Thursday at 3:00pm until 8:00 Friday and then every other weekend. This means she regularly gets them for a week at a time and she won’t allow me to have phone calls with them unless I agree to give her several phone calls during the three times a year that I have them for a week at a time, those times being spring break/thanksgiving/Christmas break and alternating depending on odd even years. Any insight into how other parents handle these situations would be greatly appreciated. TIA
