We created a Discord server for science enthusiasts—everyone is welcome!

Yesterday, I made a post asking if there were any open communities for people interested in science. Since there didn't seem to be many active options outside of university groups, we decided to create one ourselves. The idea is simple: build a friendly community where people can discuss science, ask questions, share interesting articles and discoveries, learn from each other, and maybe even collaborate on projects in the future. Whether you're a student, researcher, educator, or just someone who's curious about science, you're welcome to join. This is a brand-new community, so if you join now, you'll have the chance to help shape it from the beginning. Discord: https://discord.gg/gfHGsrmGx If you have suggestions for channels, events, or activities, we'd love to hear them. Hope to see you there!

No active science discussion groups outside universities — looking to start a community (Discord)

Hi everyone, I’ve been looking for an active community where people can openly discuss science and share ideas, but outside of university-based groups there doesn’t seem to be anything accessible. Most existing options are either university-linked or have strict requirements and regulations that make it difficult for general participation.

For example, joining some established science groups like IOBSL involves formal processes, and they are mainly structured around academic or institutional members rather than open discussion.

Because of this, I wanted to ask: Is there any existing open group where people discuss and share science ideas casually? If not, I’d like to suggest starting a simple Discord community focused on general science discussion. The idea is to create a space where anyone interested can: Share and discuss science ideas Ask questions and learn together Exchange interesting research or articles Have casual, respectful science-related conversations

We can start small and informal, and if it becomes active and stable, we can later improve it or expand it into something more structured. If anyone is interested, please comment or message. Even a small group is enough to start.
