The biggest problem is how the game characters that were already established have to get nerfed into oblivion just to make a comic character look cooler. This entire situation with Blaze shows how badly they are able to go to this extent. Not only Blaze is WAY more agile than Blackwood and she’s not stupid. How would she get tapped on the head very easily?
This is a major problem as it feels like we have to make the video game characters weak in general to have the stories somewhat work. And I feel like the grounded stories IDW is trying to go for is extremely flawed as these are SONIC characters. The same guys who have fought literal DEITIES and have WON! This wouldn’t be bad if the comics weren’t canon, but they are. Which makes everything confusing because let’s be honest, Game Blaze is not letting what Blackwood did to her happen. Blaze fans have an absolute right to be pissed at the writers as they have completely shafted her and made her look weak to what’s not even that impressive from Blackwood.
Hell, another example could be the Silver Eggpawn incident. This was debatably even worse as this quite literally only existed to glaze Whisper. Silver the fucking hedgehog, the same Silver who went toe to toe with Shadow was an Eggpawn victim. And now broski couldn’t escape from the slander. Luckily they have been treating him good lately but it still makes me angry.
To add, Metal Virus completely shatter Shadow’s intelligence. They made him into an arrogant dumbass who got himself infected. Again, Game Shadow uses his ego and HIS BRAIN. I don’t understand why they had to make him brain dead for the plot to go forward. While the grounded feel can work, you’re gonna have to make the comic characters actually on par with the game characters to justify this.
This is just my two cents.
I feel like anytime there is another more underrated character that’s being discussed or compared to Shadow, Shadow’s strength or character writing is always made to be either weaker or way more simple than it actually is. People either have to be dishonest about his strength or character writing to prop another character up. While I do think some of the glaze can get a bit intense, being dishonest about Shadow to further prop up your favorite is kinda weak tbh.
And again I’m not trying to attack anyone for liking someone else over Shadow. That’s fine if you either like him less or don’t like him at all, I’m just saying that your reasons should be honest about both characters. I’ve seen Silver fans have good reasons for liking Shadow less than Silver without it feeling like having to downplay everything Shadow is or does.
What do y’all think?
OG Creator is Named BurnTH
Sounds like a unique mechanic but this ruins others that aren’t as relavant as the main focus
“She’s a glorified Knuckles”
Which is funny tbh, think about it. Both have to guard and are the guardian of their respective emeralds and artifacts. Both aren’t the best socially and Knuckles has shown that he feels intense isolation because of his duty. And I feel like Blaze is closer to Knuckles(in personality than with Shadow)
And cold take
Both are extremely close in strength and are a lot closer to each other than some people give him credit for.
We all know why Nagi got locked off right, his codependency of Reo and his satisfaction of “beating “ Isagi. I feel like the best way to keep Nagi in blue lock is to have him on the same team as Barou but he CANNOT be on the same team as Reo. This helps both of them. First, both are restrictive types and they need to be pushed. With Barou on the same team, Nagi will already have another rival that’s relative to him and who won’t get him comfortable. Barou is at his best when there’s someone else on the pitch to steal from. You either, put Nagi in Ubers or Barou replace Reo in Manshine. So, this helps develop Nagi’s ego and keeps Barou from being the king(which is where he gets comfortable).
His character was good but wasted at the end. He was a far better antagonist than Axel who came out of no where. Robby vs Kwon was a much better rivalry than Miguel vs Axel.
Before his backstory got implied and revealed, did y’all think he gave off spoiled rich kid vibes?
Like obviously he wasn’t rich as a kid now but before we even knew his backstory, did y’all think he was just spoiled?
Spoilers ahead
His main problem is the fact that broski is a speed merchant. Loki at the start of the France match felt underwhelming and it was Hugo doing most of the work. I feel like he’s also strangely insecure based on what Isagi said and how that provoked the crap out of him. I don’t like him but I like him more than the Itoshi brothers.
After the comments, he isn’t a speed merchant. I still don’t like bro but I just wished the France game showed him better.
Rin-His entire character started off similar to someone like Sasuke. Talented from the start and wanted to get revenge on his brother. U20 Match Rin was Rin’s peak as a character. He was being slightly nice to Isagi and actually started to work together. Ever since Destroyer Mode got introduced, it’s like he’s been spamming it every match. While I get that is the true Rin, it feels like he needs to be relevant in a match due to that(part of my grudge with Shidou as well). He’s also sold many matches because of his fixation. It feels like he’s become this Isagi fangirl that can’t perform without him. But I have hope for broski after he’s been benched.
Sae-His fans are even more annoying debatably than Isagi fans. Him not playing in the U20 World Cup already contradicts his dream. If you want to be the world’s best midfielder, prove it against Hugo in the France match. Prove that you’re the best U20 Midfielder and that you can beat the kings of France. “Sae wanted to test blue lock”, he’s clearly seen they’ve improved. TBH, blue lock getting 4-2 against France is impressive ngl even if they lost. His personality is bland to me and unless I see him
performing with Rin in the Spain match and his backstory in Spain, I’m not gonna like him.
For someone that had to fight in a burning future, it’s very weird that he barely gets showings of it?
What do y’all think?
I feel like not enough fans on both sides give the other much credit. I feel like you can make a genuine argument for either side. I feel like Shadow takes this extreme diff but an argument for Silver could be made.
Shadow’s main argument could be that he has chaos snap and has better combat skills than Silver. He also has projectiles and superior hax(way less versatility though). It could go either way leaning Shadow due to Shadow having more feats.
Strength: Silver-Has lifted more and can lift heavier objects than Shadow.
Speed: Shadow-Has better speed feats and is shown to be relative to Sonic in terms of overall Travel Speed.
Combat and Reaction Speed: Shadow takes CS and Silver takes RS. Shadow is a lot faster with his blows and attacks. He’s very fast with the kicks. Silver’s main defense besides using powers is reacting to attacks.
Durability: Shadow has better tanking ability.
Endurance: Silver in IDW is able to mentally endure holding many things at once and endured the extreme power of the emeralds Eggman was using in IDW.
Stamina-Probably either way
Intelligence and Battle Intelligence: Both go to Shadow. He has more knowledge and can hack many computers.
Combat and Skills: Both go to Shadow since he is a lot more in close combat than Silver is.
Range and Versatility: Both go to Silver as his whole kit is range heavy and he’s very versatile with the things he can do with his telekinesis.
Offense and Defense: Silver can put more pressure on offense and force his opponent to be rather defensive. Silver also takes defense since he can create shields and fly extremely fast to dodge.
AP and DC: Shadow takes AP due to being able to do more damage to someone in a single hit. DC goes to Silver as he can destroy a larger area with his Psychokinesis.
Hax/Abilities: Both go to Silver. Silver can immobilize people and has more of an arsenal than Shadow does IMO. Especially considering his abilities to create raw telekinetic blasts that can match Shadow’s.
Power: Goes to Silver as he can create and deal more powerful things that do more damage than Shadow could.
Feats/Scaling can go either way but I’m leaning Shadow due to having more but scaling is closer.
So please, let’s not act like either gets no diffed by the other.
Me personally, I would rank them like this
Blaze is 5th(behind Metal, Silver, Shadow and Sonic)
Silver is 3rd
That’s just me
Remember, this is my opinion. You can have your own but toxicity over a topic like this isn’t the way.
Knuckles-He’s extremely strong and has some of the best durability on this list, the problem is that everyone above him out-speeds him or has better haxes. Knuckles does have the best close range but again, he’s the slowest on the list and lacks haxes so he’s here.
Blaze-Before anyone gets mad, she is very strong and you can argue her fourth but it’s somewhat like Knuckles. She is the least durable though and her defense is predictable. Her stamina is weird since in IDW she got tired in Burning Blaze form after dealing with robots in the Neo Metal Sonic arc. This does speak about her base stamina as everyone above her has more. She outranks Knuckles due to range and speed.
Metal Sonic- He is a beast with some of the best speed and has the ability to surpass Sonic in speed. There is a problem though, stamina. While he has good hax, he can over exhaust himself the most which leaves him open. I think that’s what puts Metal here, but you can absolutely argue top 3 or even top 2.
Silver- Silver has debatably the best hax and defense here. He has the best flight and range options out of everyone and can shut down someone like Knuckles or Metal Sonic. The problem is that Silver has decent to above average physical stats which compared to everyone else is bad. Silver can fight close range but it’s preferred to stay long range. Like Metal, you can argue him over Shadow but I think this placement is more balanced.
Shadow-Shadow has some of the best haxes out of everyone especially since he can counter Silver by using Chaos Snap to escape his teleportation. He has great stamina and combat skills, he has projectiles and is all around great. But you can argue him below Silver and Metal Sonic.
Sonic-Sonic has a good hax through wind manipulation. He’s also consistently the fastest out of everyone(except overcharged metal). His fighting style can clash with everyone else and he has the best feats.
This is my opinion but I want to see what y’all think
Me personally, I would rank them like this
Blaze is 5th(behind Metal, Silver, Shadow and Sonic)
Silver is 3rd
That’s just me
I feel like people act like Blaze gets sidelined in Silver stories.
06, she was in a mentor role and one never acted superior over the other.
Silver barely has any stories to begin with, so why are we pointing the finger at a specific character instead of realizing that maybe Sega is the problem.
Not to bash on Sega, but all of their characters should feel important.
This will always be a Sega problem, not a Silver problem
I feel like too many people have the habit of blaming a specific character instead of the larger issue.
Silver and Blaze are barely paired up together
Saying that Silver holds Blaze back and vice versa makes no sense!
This also doesn’t just apply to the 2 of them
This applies to every character that’s not Sonic and maybe Shadow(because so many people complain about him when he got only 1 canon side game)
