[RevShare] Solo Dev looking for team for Open World Survival Craft game like Valheim

Hi Everyone! I'm a Software Engineer by day and Game developer by night. This is a project that I worked on a few years ago that I inevitably dropped due to some creative differences and technical difficulties but with the recent changes to AI I've been able to overcome my lack of 3d programming knowledge. I've played countless OWSC games and I've always wanted to create my own so you could say this is a passion project of mine.

The game is set in a cyberpunk-dystopian landscape which has been reclaimed by nature. So there'll be a mix of environments we need to cater to. Vast majority of the game will be wilderness with some remnants of civilization. Game is primarily a melee game but we'll inevitably be adding ranged attacks later on. It'll have boss battles and procedurally generated dungeons. I think the thing that would set this game apart from any others is the grappling mechanic. Ever seen or played Last Oasis? Going for something like that. I was able to nail that implementation down a few months back but I scrapped it because I wanted to rework it for later expansion through equipment upgrades.

I'm about 2 months into development and man is it a crude implementation but I've come a long way. I have basic UI with Hotbar, Crafting, Inventory, Equipment etc. Combat is also using debug visualization but it functions perfectly. Build system needs work with the auto snap feature but it's mostly functioning at the moment. I've included a video below on progress so far, recorded a few weeks back. If you've made it this far into the post give me some comments on what you think!

This game is being made in S&box, the new game engine based on Source 2, released on Steam by Facepunch. I used Unity in the past but for package installs your only options were to pay large sums for them, get free ones that are constantly broken or figure it out yourself. S&box was great right out the gates because the editor gave you a player character and native steam networking.

Currently working on procedurally generated terrains and getting some models going (I have literally just a single rock model). The game will be lower-poly with pixelated textures, maybe 128x128 but that's still up for discussion as time goes on. There'll only be a handful of us by the end and I think it'll be overwhelming amounts of work if we aim our sights too high.

Roles I'm looking for:
- Artists - need models for player, enemies, environment.  Also need to make textures for models/terrain. Animations and VFX are needed as well. I'd ideally love somebody who can do it all because they'd be the end to end lead artist for the whole project but I'd be open for any assistance really.
- Audio guy - need sounds and ambient music. Game is silent at the moment.

I'm offering revshare depending on how much you can output, I'm not in the business of screwing people over but also don't want to sell myself short if somebody inevitably can't produce what's needed. If youre a hobbyist looking for some portfolio work then I'd be open to that as well! Any and all help is accepted.

DM me if you're interested and I can add you on discord.

Game development viable?

Hi all, Title says it all. I’ve worked on a game since the day sandbox released but growing concerned for what the future has in store. I’ve seen some posts of people’s issues losing progress due to updates and engine changes so curious if I should sink another 1-2 years here if things will randomly fall apart in the final hours. Clearly new to game dev but this last month has been a crazy amount of progress. For background I’m making an open world survival crafting game, still considering if I want p2p with pve or dedicated servers for mmo PvP which is a massive decision.. it was really enticing seeing sandbox’s native networking/player character so that’s why I wanted to go that route… should I move over to unity before it’s too late?

Any ways to stay on the version I’m currently using if I plan on exporting to standalone?

Currently my game has basic combat with attack/block. Health and stamina that work great, harvesting, crafting, full UI framework in place with inventory and crafting menu already functioning.. help lol

Hit detection for pvp combat system

Hi Everyone, having some troubles coming up with a hit detection scheme for a 3d pvp melee game. Game will have roughly 40 players in the scene at once so i wanted to aim for a mathematically calculated hit detection rather than it being based on animations or collision hitboxes to allow for the server to have authoritative say on if it was truly a hit or not. Clients would predict and the server would verify and lerp the difference and dictate a hit or not.

Right now im essentially using a raycast for every degree of sword arc to work out if any would hit a player but i fear for the amount of rays that would be casted X number of players.

Any better ways to accomplish this? Whats ideal for a game of this magnitude?

Question: Cultural appropriation?

Worried that getting something in this style of tattoo would be frowned upon. I’ve done a ton of research into the meaning of the symbolism but I LOVE the geometric shapes and the use of negative space. What’s everyone’s thoughts?
