Are there any better ways to shop?

Hi guys! Me and wife are soon to be moving to a new place in Ontario. This is our first rental, so we don't have any stuff as of now. So we are planning to get all the items required for the house. As I was shopping to get things like linen, household groceries (toilet paper, washing liquid, etc.), we know that they're available at multiple stores (Walmart, Costco, Loblaws etc).

We want to keep our savings to the max, so do you guys have any better way to shop to find the best deals between stores for the product? Is there any website you know of or any app or do you just use the Flipp app to find the flyers?

Any suggestion to compare prices between stores would be really amazing. Thank you!

Hob suggestions - Electric or Gas?

We are starting to get our kitchen done in a few weeks, and as the work is going on, we are looking for a 4 burner built-in hob. We're discussing if we have to get an electric hob or a gas hob.

What do you suggest? And why is it better? What are my pro and cons according to your experience?

I would like to know the price ranges for a good one, the brands to look at, or something in specific to look out for while choosing one as I'm pretty new in this field. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Thank you!

Guidance on the quote

Hey guys! I’m completely new in this construction thing and we are planning to build a 3 BHK in Hyderabad, India.

[First 3 images] - This is the quote that the local vendor has shared. What do you think I have to look out for or what’s missing in this? I have a call with him tomorrow so what’s your judgement on this quote?

[Last 3 images] - the kind of wardrobes we are planning to get plus the false ceiling as the rounded border design.

Need help choosing uPVC windows — Fenesta, Aparna Venster, Encraft, WeatherSeal, Duroplast, or local vendor?

Context: 2nd-floor unit, ~1400 sqft, Hyderabad. (Following the previous posts)

Shortlist: Fenesta, Aparna Venster, Encraft, WeatherSeal, Duroplast, local vendor.

Key requirements: good sealing (rain/wind), long-term hardware reliability, thermal insulation, smooth sliding/operation, honest warranty & after-sales service, and reasonable price.

Please critique brands on:

  • Build quality and hardware (locks, rollers, hinges)
  • Sealing and water leakage history in monsoon
  • Installation quality issues to watch for (sealant, anchoring, leveling)
  • Warranty claims responsiveness and typical hidden costs
  • Whether local vendors can match branded value

Share installers to avoid or prefer in Hyderabad if possible. Photos or model names helpful.

Floor design tips

Hi guys, recently we started construction of our house which is a 3 floor building where we occupy the 2nd floor. The total floor area is ~1400sqft.

Architect provided only walls and windows; when I tried placing furniture and washroom fixtures with the plumber/electrician, many things weren’t feasible. I created a furniture/fixture layout myself and want feedback on flaws and better placements (living/dining, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, utility, balconies).

Please feel free to be a critique and help me find flaws and suggest better ways to place items in a good place. Also this is a home in Hyderabad, India. I can help you with any more information you need.

Thank you.

Tile recommendations for 1400 sqft Hyderabad flat — brands, durability, costs & installation tips

Hey all!

We are building a 3-floor house and we’ll live on the 2nd floor (total ~1400 sqft). We are going to have more posts and I want to focus on TILES on this one.

Layout: living room, dining (powder room + balcony), master bedroom (balcony + washroom), 2 bedrooms with attached washrooms, open kitchen + utility.

Visited stores in Hyderabad and shortlisted: Kajaria, Johnson, Somany, Bajaj, Cera, Jaguar, Aparna Unispace. Kajaria seemed reasonably priced, but I’ve seen mixed comments online.

I’m new to this. Can anyone share experience/recommendations on durability, after-sales, colour/fade issues, grout/installation quality, or better brands to consider?

Please help me with other questions as well. Thank you!

OINP ITA received — should I also wait and apply under CEC later?

TL;DR: Got an OINP ITA (Employer Job Offer: International Student). My CEC eligibility may come later this year. Should I pursue OINP now and then CEC later, or skip OINP and wait for CEC? Concerned about timelines, costs (I have a spouse), and upcoming immigration reforms.

Timeline

  • Maintained status: Aug 14, 2025
  • PGWP letter: Jan 21, 2026
  • OINP ITA: Apr 30, 2026
  • Work experience: < 1 year currently — likely to reach 1 year either Aug 15, 2026 or Nov 2026 (see my other post about dates)
  • Estimated CRS after 1 year: ~530

Context / considerations

  • OINP (Employer Job Offer stream) = provincial route, non-Express Entry can be slow (often 12–18+ months to PR from older posts).
  • CEC (Express Entry) = faster once eligible but need 1 year of eligible Canadian work experience; processing after invitation ~6–8 months.
  • Reforms starting around May 30, 2026 may affect processing/policies.
  • Application costs add up (provincial + federal + spouse fees) - financial concern.

Questions for the community

  1. Does it make sense to submit the OINP application now (so processing runs while I build eligible CEC experience), then apply under CEC once I reach 1 year?
  2. Any downside to holding both processes simultaneously (e.g., costs, withdrawing OINP later, impact on timelines)?
  3. I’m confident I’ll have a 530+ CRS after 1 year, is it wiser to skip OINP (and give chance for others) and just wait for CEC draws?
  4. Any experiences with OINP approval timelines recently or interactions between provincial nominations and later Express Entry applications?

Any personal experiences, pros/cons, or practical advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

CEC Eligibility: 1 year work experience?

Hi everyone! need help confirming the date I’ll meet the CEC 1-year work requirement.

Timeline

  • Started working May 2024 (intern, converted to full‑time after graduation) — still employed.
  • Applied for PGWP: Aug 14, 2025.
  • Traveled: 1 week to the US in Nov 2025; then to India mid‑Jan to Mar 31, 2026.
  • Received Work Permit Letter: Jan 21, 2026.
  • Took ~2 weeks vacation total during the above period.
  • CRS > 530. (Calculation after 1 year experience)

My assumption: I’d reach 1 year of eligible work on Aug 14, 2026 (one year from PGWP application date).

Questions:

  1. Since I was continuously working, does that count toward the CEC 1 year and make Aug 14, 2026 the eligibility date?
  2. If not, do I need to subtract the ~2.6 months I was outside Canada (Nov trip + mid‑Jan–Mar) and push the eligibility to around Nov 2026.

Any clarity or experiences with similar timelines would be really appreciated, thanks!
